Chapter 4

As she is driving the car down the road, Alexis can’t help but notice all the airplanes flying back and forth over her neighborhood, its as if they are looking for someone or something.

Could they be looking for her mom? No, that can’t be, someone would have told her she is sure of it.

She drives down the empty road, wondering where everyone is. Is everyone hiding for cover somewhere? She wishes that she had a source of news so she could find out what is going on with the planes and the loud booming noises. There isn’t even a radio in the car because her mother hated it, so they had it removed.

As she gets to a stop sign she stops the car and puts it in park. She takes out the map and looks at it.

It says to get on the highway and travel 20 miles west, Alexis thinks to herself. “That will put me in Phoenix” she exclaims aloud. Then it says to drive northwest to Lake Pleasant Regional Park, where she is to go into the woods and follow the directions to a cabin, where her mom is supposedly located.

She puts the car in drive and starts driving towards ‘Alan’s Weapons And Ammo” store which is located right off the highway in Mesa.

As she is driving she keeps an eye on all the planes still flying in and around her neighborhood.

Soon, she reaches the weapons store and parks outside. Alan was a friend of her dad’s and if she could just explain to him that her mom was in trouble, she was sure Alan would gladly hand over some things she could use to protect herself from whoever had taken her mom.

She opened the door to the store and stepped inside. “Alexis!” Alan exclaims. “What are you doing outside in a time like this?”

“What exactly IS a time like this Alan?” Alexis asks. “I’m a little out of the loop here.” “Why there’s a war in the sky happening. We don’t know who it is but there are fighter planes out there causing terror and then we have our planes trying to stop them,” Alan tells her.

“Nothing happening on the ground then?” Alexis asks. “Not that I know of” He answers back.

“So what are you doing out at a time like this anyways?” He wonders.

“Well, I was hoping you could help me. My mom is in a bit of trouble and I need to help her. Do you have anything I can use to protect myself if trouble arises?” Alexis asks him sweetly.

“I knew this day would come,” he says in a grave manner.

“What day?” asks Alexis. “Hmm…? Oh nothing, nothing, sure I got some stuff for you wait here let me grab some from the back.

Alexis ponders his responses while he leaves and heads towards the back of the store. What did he mean he knew this day would come, she wonders.

Rather quickly, Alan returns carrying an armful of weapons. “Now these weapons are extremely dangerous and should be used only in dire emergency is that clear?” Alan scolds her.

“Yes I understand, I promise I will be careful” Alexis replies. “Okay, here is a semi-automatic pistol and some ammo. And here are some hand grenades.”

“Uh…grenades?” asks Alexis. “Believe me, in times of trouble that we are in now, you will want some of these.” He replies back. “Okay how much do I owe you Alan?” “Oh don’t worry dear your dad gave me enough, no charge for you.” “Thanks Alan.” “Take care Alexis.”

Alexis leaves the shop with the heavy load feeling way more worried then before she went in.

She gets back into the Sedan and places the weapons on the passenger seat. She starts the car, the engine roaring to life, and puts it into drive.

She begins to drive down the road, finally making her way towards Phoenix.

Soon, she will be able to save her mother, Alexis thinks.
