Chapter Eighteen

Rey let out a gasp and dropped the brush she was holding. She covered a mouth and for a moment, she actually didn't know how to react.

"Father?" She said.

Onwa turned around to face his daughter, but there was no smile on his face to greet her.

"What... what are you doing here?" Rey asked worried.

"I came here to bring you back to the base. There, you will attend to your duties as part of the Resistance, against the First Order. You will be punished also, for your act of cowardness."

His voice was low, and full of anger, and his eyes were as cold as ice. His words hit Rey and crushed her. Tears filled her eyes.

"Rey is certainly not a coward!" Ben exclaimed angrily.

"You! You..." Onwa said, his voice full of a contained rage, "you took my daughter away! You took her away! How dare you?! You are not worthy to have her. You do not deserve her. You're the worst person I've ever met. You're pure evil, you're a killing machine. I hate you. And so does the Resistance. So does Rey. At least she should.

"Father!!" Rey shouted. The more her father talked, the more anger filled her heart. "You have no right to tell Ben those things. You have no right to tell me who I should hate. I love Ben, and I do not love anyone else as much as him! He is my husband!" She said with defiance.

Onwa paled.

"What? Your... husband?

"Yes! We got married two months ago. And I will not allow you to insult him!

"How could you betray me? How could you betray the Resistance?

"I did not betray anyone! Ben is a good person.

"He chose the dark side!

"Not anymore! He came back, because I trusted him, because I helped him. Because I love him and because he loves me. We always have loved each other. And if you hadn't erased our memories, maybe we wouldn't be here right now! Maybe we would be happy, in a peaceful galaxy! But no! You chose that! You chose this to happen. Well, deal with it! Because I have no intention of coming back right now, and certainly not after everything you've said."

Onwa was about to reply, when the cry of a baby came out of the crib.

"What is that?" Onwa jumped.

Rey looked at him, hurt. She rushed to the crib and took her son in her arms and cradled him to calm him down.

"This is our baby. Ani." She announced, softly, looking at Ben who smiled.

"Your baby?

"Yes. Ben is the father, I am the mother.

"I... can't believe it..." Rey's father murmured.

For a second, Rey thought her father was moved and would be at peace about it. But she didn't expect this to happen.

"You flew away with a traitor, you married him and you had his child?!" He exploded. "You've gone too far, Rey. Way too far." He added, threatening.

Rey stepped back, suddenly scared. But when Onwa suddenly enlightened his lightsaber, she screamed and pressed her baby against her to protect him.

"Father! What are you doing!!??

"What has to be done!" Onwa exclaimed running towards Ben.

But Ben had been prepared from the beginning. He pushed Onwa away with the Force. The man hit the wall and fell on the ground. Ben rushed to him, lightsaber on.

"You'd better go away right now and never come back or I'll kill you this instant, without any hesitation."

Onwa looked at Ben who had fire in his eyes, a fire of rage, still threatening the old man with his lightsaber. Onwa looked at Rey, as white as a sheet, and he felt sorry. And he realized what he was about to do. He realized what a terrible father he just had been. He looked back at Ben, and put his weapon away.

"Fine," he said.

Ben kept his lightsaber as a threat towards Onwa, and waited for him to go away. Onwa turned towards Rey.

"I'm sorry," he murmured. "I'm a terrible father. But I love you, and I don't want to lose you again."

Rey didn't approach, nor did she speak.

"I'll go," he continued. "But please, reconsider coming back. We need you. Even you, Ben."

With those words, he got out of the room, and Ben put his lightsaber away before running towards Rey who collapsed on the bed, sobbing, Ani screaming and crying as well. Ben swung an arm around her shoulders and tried to comfort her. He hugged her and whispered sweet words to her until she was calm again.

"I'm scared, Ben," she murmured.

"I know. But I'm here, and I love you. And you have to be strong to protect Ani."

Rey nodded, and dried her tears. It was time for Ani to eat. Ben helped her getting comfortable on the bed, and stayed next to her, talking to her, and making sure she was alright. Rey was extreamly tired: in one day, she had given birth and had confronted her father who nearly killed her and her son. She didn't know if what she had seen was real. It couldn't be her father. He would never do such a thing, would he? She needed to ask Luke, or Obi-Wan Kenobi. They could help her.

"Ben?

"Yes, my love?

"I'm sorry for what my father said...

"It's not your doing, and you have nothing to be sorry for." Ben assured firmly.

Two days went by, and Rey was worried sick since the visit of her father. Ben had tried everything to calm her down, but it just seemed impossible to comfort her. The baby was suffering as well, since Rey was being so stressed, she couldn't feed him. Fortunately, they had found a woman who could feed the baby. But it was a distress for not being able to take care of Ani anymore. Ben grew more and more stressed. Anger and rage rose in his heart, and the storm once chased away, rose back, howling, and the dark side was pulling him again. He hated Rey's father for what he had done to her. He feared to lose her. She was sick now, and unable to take care of the baby. And he had tried everything. It was time to do something now. If this was how Rey's father treated her daughter, he would show him how he would treat him! He had to go to Rey first, but not tell her what he was about to do.

"Rey, my love," he said, "I have something to tell you."

Rey turned her head towards her beloved husband.

"What your father did was horrible. It wasn't worthy of a father. And I want to promise you something: I will never, ever treat our son like this. We will raise him together, because we're family. We will never abandon him, as I will never abandon you. My love, you have to have courage. You're a mother now, and... well, you're Rey! I know that you're tired, and that you've had a lot of emotional trials, but you have to fight back. Ani needs you, and... I need you. You can't stay like this forever. Fight. You know how to do this more than anyone. I believe in you. Do not let yourself down. I love you, that's all you need to know. We're a family now. You have to take care of your family, as I have to too. Now, I must go somewhere, but I can't tell you where, for it is a secret. But what I'm about to do, is in order to protect you, and my son. I love you."

Rey stared at Ben, and the hint of a smile appeared on the corner of her lips.

"I love you too. I will fight.

"Do you promise?

"I promise. Please, be careful, and don't do anything stupid that you will regret. I need you as much as you need me, and so does Ani.

"I will be careful."

They smiled to each other, and Ben kissed Rey with passion. Then he was off. He took a ship, and flew away, to another planet.

Rey silently prayed for him to be safe. Then she got up, and went to take her son to feed him. As Ani was drinking, she looked at him, and smiled: Ani looked just like his father.

"I will never abandon you, Ani. Mommy loves you forever." She whispered.

Ani smiled and kept drinking and babbling.
