41| Reversed & Cursed

~Mason~

"Ew, this feels so weird,"

I whine as Bahra applies the cool jelly-like substance on my muscular abdomen while I lay back on our bed. Every time I went into the bathroom I always lifted my shirt to see if there was a difference but I couldn't see a change. Maybe all three of my mates are crazy and I'm just really sick. Or this is the best and longest prank they've played yet.

"Are you okay Daddy?" Waylon asked as he poked the jelly with a single finger while he cuddled his stuffed rabbit and sat in Tristan's lap.

"Nope, daddy's just a big baby," Noah answers him, purposefully ignoring my glare.

"I don't think daddy liked that," Juni giggles and fist bumps her papa like making fun of me is their favorite past time.

"You guys are too cute," Bahra tsks as she starts applying the little dots over my stomach in a strange pattern with the TV hanging over the fireplace reflecting my insides.

As she did her work, I looked over and watched Remy. He laid on the leather couch beside our bed holding our sleepy babies Clem and Cy against his chest. Carefully watching over their little bodies as they napped and held them close. Now here we were, adding another infant to our expanding family. Remy caught my daydreaming gaze and raised his brow in curiosity.

You okay Mase?

Yeah, I just love you is all

"Alpha Mason?" Bahra snaps her fingers in front of my eyes and I bring my focus back to the flatscreen tv.

"Holy shit," I cursed under my breath when I saw the little alien-like figure floating in what seemed like black empty space.

"This is your baby," She smiles as she holds a small tablet and controls the screen, zooming in on the tiny nugget I was hosting. I watch the little blob form a small head shape with a body and appendages.

"Woah! Is that my baby brother!" Wei asked and we all laughed when the little nugget moved.

"We don't know if it's a boy yet Wei," Tristan tells his identical mini-me and Wei pouts.

"If it's a girl can it still be my brother?" He asked but that was an entirely different topic altogether.

"Why does my baby sibling look like a booger?" Juniper asks and Noah snorts with laughter.

"Wow, movements this early aren't common but it's a very good sign that the little one's forming correctly. Their measurements look normal and oh, here's the heartbeat," We all listened as the baby's heart sped up like a tiny train chugging along inside me.

My own heart probably skipped a few beats when I heard it and I let out a long sigh of relief.

I told you so

Shut up

I argued with Remy through our link and I didn't have to look at him to know he was wearing his usual smug grin that appears when he's right.

"Everything looks good Alpha Mason, congratulations!" Bahra was excited as she started to take off the little dots and Noah punched my shoulder.

"I told you we weren't crazy! Now do you believe us?" He asks and hit him back harder.

"I'll believe it when I see it," I tell him as I sit up and rub the gell off with a towel.

"Well, two weeks into this five-month pregnancy you should start showing any day now. How is your morning sickness?" She asks and I audibly groan by just hearing the word.

"Morning? I don't count two in the morning as the morning yet, but I stopped throwing up after the first two days. Now I'm just super nauseous and can barely eat anything," I tell her and her happiness turns to concern, taking out her small notepad and jotting down a few notes.

"That could be why you're not showing. You need to watch yourself and eat a lot more than you're used too because the baby's growing so rapidly. I thought it might be easier for you than it was for these two considering you're alpha status but it seems I was mistaken. I'll mix a few herbs together in the lab and have it delivered to you later," She explains and I can already see the gears turning in Tristan's head as he tried to figure out how he was going to get me to eat more when I can barely handle vanilla yogurt.

"Also because there have been no studies on alpha pregnancies, I would steer on the side of caution and recommend there be no intercourse for the duration," She says and I feel a little bit of my spirit die with her words. How the fuck am I supposed to go without sex for four more months when I have the sexiest men alive for mates?

"If you do decide to, I recommend you're very..." she looks directly at Remy as if she knows and he takes just his hands off the babies to raise them up like he's innocent, "Very," She continues and stares at Noah next who blinks rapidly like he couldn't possibly fuck me into oblivion, "...gentle," She finishes by narrowing her all-knowing gaze at me and packs up her things into a small suitcase, bowing before leaving.

I run my hand over my sticky abdomen after I got off as much of the gell as I could. I wonder what my little guy could possibly be up to in there. Dying of boredom? I know I would. My stomach suddenly growls and if I could scold them already I would. Like maybe they wouldn't be so hungry if they let me eat something real for a change.

"I hate to cut this moment short, but you still have that meeting with the elders about Connor," Noah reminds me and I get back up, walking over to the closet and tossing on a new shirt before waving for them to come with me while Tris stays behind with our four babies.

"Mama, what's intercourse?" I can hear little Wei ask just as the three of us leave and we scurry away faster as soon as he says it.

"You can not adopt the child,"

The five women of the council of elders announce as I kneel before them with Noah and Remy. We met them in their private meeting room where anyone could find them and talk or ask for advice like I often do. When I became the alpha without ever being taught by my own father, they were everything to me. Teaching me about pack morals and how to care for my people.

"Why? I can provide a better life for him and be the father he never had. We can't let the crimson pack go to the wayside because of what that man did," I respectfully ask, hurt by their decision.

Are they saying I'm not good enough to be his adoptive father?

"You should know more than anyone that the God of fate works in mysterious ways and we can not get in the way of his work. The child will become your son, but not like this. In the meantime, it would be honorable of you to become a mentor to him during these dark times and rename him in our honor," Elder Natia informed me as the others nodded in agreement while sipping their tea.

Elder Sefian puts her china teacup down on the glass side table beside her chair and stood up. Walking towards the shelves of glass jars behind her containing decades worth of spiritual clay from around the world.

"These prophecies are never wrong, they stated the Alpha king would be young but rise above the rest, one of his mates would become the bridge to peace and the other a bridge to war. Their fourth mate would be known to them but unable to reach them until the phoenix was born," Elder Sefian recalls from memory as she pulls a glass jar containing a rich purple clay and comes to me.

"Just as the Alpha King would be with child once his fated lovers unite," She says. Knowing even though not a soul in my family had spoken a word on the subject. She taps my shoulder with a finger meaning I had to stand up and pulls at my shirt so I take it off.

"Your body is trying to fight the little one because they are weaker than you, this will protect them," She promises as she draws five crossing lines across my stomach and I'm thankful.

"They might be weak but their inner strength is necessary for this pack." She says and I don't even want to ask what she could possibly mean by that.

"Always remember this baby is an absolute gift and his curse will become a blessing," Elder Maya says as she draws a single yellow dot in the center and they both pull away from me.

"A curse? What are you talking about?" I asked but they refused to answer me, waving me to leave them instead. Respectfully I take my leave, knowing better than to push them.

"I'm sure the baby will be fine, she said it was a blessing," Remy tried to calm me down once we were a safe distance away from their open doors and I put my shirt back on.

"She said its curse would become a blessing but its still cursed," I sigh, running my hand over the place where I think my baby could possibly be hiding as if I could protect them from any harm like this.

"She also said he was a gift, maybe he's like Clementine," Noah tries to reason and I try to calm down before catching onto what he said.

"Wait, she said he?" I ask and they both nodded, all of us knowing the elders are never wrong. Their soft smiles were trying to convince me that everything was going to be okay but I have so much running through my mind that I can barely enjoy the sweet moment.

"God, you're so cute babe," Remy chuckles as he kisses my cheek and Noah rolls his eyes.

"What are you going to rename Connor?" Noah asks and we start heading towards the med bay.

"He will be the first to know. When you two travel back from the Crimson pack you'll have to stop by the lotus tribe and see if anyone wants to volunteer to be a healer here and train as Bahra's apprentice." I ask my beta mates as we approach the bay doors, walking in only to have Bahra point us in the direction of Connor's room.

"He's still recovering but he should be good to go home, physically speaking," She says and I enter the small room with just a single bed in the corner where Connor laid, staring at the ceiling.

"Good morning," Connor slowly turns his head towards me, a dead soulless look in his eyes before gazing up again.

"You're going to be adopted today," I mention and he doesn't say anything.

"And you're staying here with our pack until you're of age to take over for your father. In doing so your new name will be Alexein Kailea. You will retake the Crimson family name when you return to your pack," I formerly inform him and he clasps his little hands, still refusing to say anything.

"Alexein, we're here for you. You're going to be living with one of the pack widows Rene and she's ready to accept you with open arms. Mason, Remy, Tristan, and I will be carefully tracking your progress and checking up on you," Noah tries to talk to him but it was obvious to all of it that he is broken beyond words.

And it's all my fault.

You did what you had to do

Although Remy and Noah did not have a link, they somehow managed to tell me the exact same thing at the same time giving me a migraine. I turn around and leave the heavy sadness in the air and try to get Alexein out of my head otherwise the guilt was going to eat me alive.

"He'll be okay. Just wait until after he's been with his mother for a month," Noah tries to talk through to me but I don't want to talk about it.

Is slaughtering Damien the reason why my baby's cursed? Why would the gods want to get back at me for killing a worthless man?

Is it karma for leaving his son soulless and abandoned?

The thought itself is exhausting and all I want to do is curl up and sleep the rest of this awful day away with my little nugget, knowing he's safe for now inside me.
