Chapter 57: Why?

Cat Noir vaulted himself to the Eiffel Tower, still reeling from the knowledge that his father had been the one terrorizing Paris all this time.

Why... why? He wants Mom back, but if he ever got our Miraculous, the battle would have likely leveled Paris, and-

"Cat Noir?"

He looked at Ladybug and Strunsahtiid, and the look of concern on both their faces made him unable to hold anymore.

He flung himself at ladybug, wrapping his arms around her and began to cry. Venting out all the years of neglect and, as Paarthurnax had once plainly stated to him, abuse. All the sadness and heartbreak caused by his mother's disappearance, the betrayal at the reveal that his own father had been willing to go so far as murder just to make a Wish that would have killed him.

He didn't even care at this point that, with all his ranting, Ladybug would know his identity. He just wanted someone to listen, to actually care about him.

Ladybug just sat there in shock, not only because of the fact that Cat Noir might as well have told her his identity straight away, but the sheer depth of Gabriel's abuse. Before today, she'd respected the man as a designer, but despised him as a father. Now, she wanted nothing more than to throw the man off of the highest cliff she could find.

After many, many hours, when the sky had already gone dark and Cat Noir had quite down a little, she gently pushed him away.

"Kitty, I need to fix... all this." She pointed to the havoc wreaked on Paris. When the Butterfly and Peacock Miraculous had been taken from Gabriel and Emilie returned to full health, Strunsahtiid had used it to recall every single akuma and amok sent out, and Durnehviir had dispelled all the undead he's raised back to the Soul Cairn. Building were destroyed, roads torn up, power lines downed, and even more that she couldn't see.

He sniffled. "O-Okay..." Strunsahtiid patted the poor boy on the back.

She quickly summoned her Lucky Charm, then tossed it up into the air. "Miraculous Ladybug!"

Strunshatiid sighed in partial relief as rewatched the magical ladybugs sweep over the damage, then turned back to the broken boy.

"Adrien?" Paarthurnax asked tentatively, "where do you want to go? I highly doubt you want to go home now."

"M-M'lady... c-can I... stay over at your house? I-I don't feel safe being in the same house as my father."

"Well... i-if you did, you'd know my identity, but I guess that doesn't really matter, now that Hawk Moth is gone."

"I'll fly him there," Strunsahtiid offered.

"Alright then." Cat Noir clambered onto the white dragon back, who took off, while Ladybug swung towards her house.
