Chapter 30: Tears

"What just happened?! Where did Alix go?!" Rose wailed. Juleka stayed silent, but her eyes darted around nervously. Mylene looked like she was close to tears.

"Nobody touch this book!" Paarthurnax slammed his wing on top of the thing. "This is a Black Book, a twisted artifact created by the Daedric Prince of Knowledge and Fate, Hermaeus Mora. If one is read, the reader is sent to his plane of Oblivion, Apocrypha. It is an endless library, and those who venture there become prisoners to their own thirst for knowledge and are unable to leave."

Suddenly a bright green light appeared near the Black Book. It changed and stretched into a humanoid shape, then in a final flash, it disappeared, leaving Alix lying prone and gasping on the ground.

"Alix!" Marinette rushed to the tiny girl's side. "Alix, are you okay?"

Alix's body shook with heavy, gasping sobs. Marinette had never seen the fiery-tempered skater cry before, especially like this, so it came as a shock to her.

"M-My dad... my brother... they... got... kidnapped..."

"Kidnapped? By who?" asked Odahviing.

"M-Miraak..."

Strunsahtiid's face twisted into a scowl. "Miraak, that little rat! First Relonikiv, then Kruziikrel, then Sahrotaar, and now, your father and brother!"

Alix seemed like she didn't hear any of them, for she simply stood up and bolted away.
