Chapter 11

Nathan and I headed back downstairs to find my parents and grandmother in a heated conversation. My parents turned around once we approached them and I didn't miss the disappointment in their eyes, but I no longer cared what they thought anymore.

My mother sighed heavily, "You're right. You made your decision and there's nothing we can do to change it now."

I was right all along. They were just too stubborn to listen to me.

"We all agreed that you should stay with your own kind for a while to get acquainted. Esme is a part of a lovely coven that she wants you to join," my mother explained.

The idea of living in a coven full of my kind was thrilling, but there was just one problem.

"What about Nathan?"

"He has a pack to take care of," my mother butted in.

"That's what Betas are for. I'm going with her," Nathan said, grabbing my hand and gently squeezing it.

"I can't let you do that," I turned to him.

"I'm not letting you out of my sight," he suddenly growled through clenched teeth.

I glared at him, "You seem to forget that I'm not your pet. It's my decision. I'm going with my grandmother and you're going to stay with your pack."

Nathan's nostril flared as he clenched his jaw. I raised my eyebrows at him, challenging him to object my decision. When he said nothing, I smiled at him.

"Thank you for understanding."

"What about you?" His voice was filled with anger.

"What about me?"

"How am I supposed to rule my pack without you? You're supposed to be my Luna."

I frowned. I hadn't thought about that, nor did I want to.

"I'm not Luna yet."

"That's not the point," he growled.

"I really don't feel like arguing about this right now. I already made my decision."

Nathan closed his mouth and clenched his jaw. His fists were balled up tightly. He was pretty angry.

"If that's all, we will be leaving," Esme said.

I turned around and went upstairs before I could hear any more protests. I entered my room and began packing everything I would need in a suitcase. When I was finished, I dragged the suitcase downstairs to see my parents waiting for me at the door. Nathan was nowhere to be found.

"Where's Nathan?" I asked as I approached them.

"He left. He seemed extremely upset," my mother said.

I tried to ignore the disappointment I felt. He left without saying goodbye. Was he really that angry?

"Whatever. Can we just go please?" I wanted to leave immediately.

My parents both pulled me into a hug. I pulled away and saw that my mother had tears in her eyes.

"Why are you crying? Aren't you happy that I'm leaving?" I scoffed.

"I know. I just want what's best for you."

"No need to worry. I'll be fine," I managed a smile.

"Don't let us down," my father chimed in.

"I won't," I rolled my eyes.

"Let's go," Esme said as she exits the house.

"Goodbye for now," I waved at my parents as I followed Esme out of the door and towards a black Porsche.

"This is your car?!" I asked in astonishment.

"Yes," she replied with a smirk.

"You have good taste," I smiled as she took my suitcase.

We both got into the car and Esme looked over at me before she started the engine. "Are you ready?"

"As ready as I'll ever be," I sighed.

Esme drove off from my house and I'm left thinking about how Nathan didn't even say goodbye.
