Chapter 39

----------

After stuffing his face with just about 10 onigiris, two servings from their pregnancy/birthing menu he was finally able to feel himself again. It was the following day. He'd collapsed on an empty bed and hadn't woken up until early noon.

The sun was at its zenith. And the temperature seemed to only go higher.

I should check up on Midoriya... he might be awake.

"It's just as All Might said! This is something we should leave to the pros! This isn't the place for us to act, you idiots!"

Yuki quietly slipped into the room. Sending apologetic looks to the people in the hallway. No one seemed to realize he was in the room quite yet.

"We know that! But, I couldn't do anything! After I heard that my friend was being targeted! I couldn't do anything!" It was Kirishima.

"I didn't. Do. Anything! If I don't do anything now, I won't be a hero or a man anymore!"

"You guys sure are loud." Yuki spoke up but only Aoyama seemed to notice him at the moment.

"Kirishima, we're in a hospital. Calm down." Kaminari hushed. "It's fine to feel strongly about things, but this time--"

"Iida-chan is right." Tsuyu added.

Kirishima stood trembling in place, "Iida, all of you, you're all correct. I know that. But!"

"Midoriya, your hand can still reach! We can go save him!"

What? Save him... Bakugo?!

"Oi! On top of being loud you're also thinking about acting on your own accord?!" Yuki furiously made his way towards Kirishima.

"You are in no power or right to act on these types of things." his pointed finger hitting Kirishima's chest.

"But--"

"But nothing! Do you not see this one!?" Yuki exclaimed now pointing at Midoriya who was sitting up with both arms still wrapped.

"He can't afford to deal with villains who are stronger than him at the moment!"

"So, in short, you're planning on getting the receiver from Yao-momo, following it, and going to save Bakugo yourselves?" Mina anxiously asked.

"Yeah." Kirishima replied.

"So you're using Yaoyorozu?"

"Even though the villains said we were targets to be killed, they took Bakugo without killing him. They probably let him live, but that doesn't mean they won't kill him eventually." Todoroki bluntly stated.

Hot flashes began to spur on Yuki's body.

"Kirishima and I are going."

"I don't think you two will!"

"Don't go overboard with your messing around!"

Both Iida and Yuki shouted, looking just about ready to pounce on the idiots.

"Wait. Calm Down." Shoji blocked Iida's path.

"I understand Kirishima's frustration at not being able to do anything and Todorkoki's frustration at having him stolen in front of his very eyes. I'm frustrated too."

An extended mouth appeared, facing Kirishima and Todoroki "But, that isn't a situation where we should act on our emotions. Right?"

"L-Let's leave this to All Might..." Aoyama spoke up timidly, "Aizawa-sensei's permission to fight at the training camp has been rescinded, too."

"Has it?" Yuki asked, earning a few nods.

"Aoyama's right. I can't say much since I was the one who needed saving, thought..." Tokoyami agreed.

"But--"

"Everyone, we're all shocked from Bakugo's kidnapping. But let's think things through calmly." Tsuyu told them.

"No matter how just your feelings, if you're saying you'll fight again...that you'll break the rules... Those acts are the same as those of villains." she explained.

"In these types of cases the law comes before feeling." Yuki warned.

Their warnings allowed them to sit in silence. They said what they said and as much as Yuki wanted to tell, warn them again and again. He'd thought it was enough to stop them.

And Boy was he going to regret not listening to his gut.

A knock spooked everyone in the room.

"It's time for Midoriya's exam..." a doctor told them.

"W-we should go. I wanna see how Jiro and Hagakure are doing, too." Sero offered.

"Yeah." Ojiro agreed.

"Deku, feel better soon." Uraraka waved to him.

"I need some coffee." Yuki spoke up leaving the room as well. "I'll be back."

"During the time you were out. Recovery Girl performed some pretty strong healing on you. Caladrius-san hadn't yet awoken to help with better results. I think you should be able to move them, but they were pretty messed up." the doctor told Midoriya.

Yuki leaned against the wall, observing his friend's reaction. He just couldn't understand when he was going to learn.

"You've had a lot of pretty bad injuries recently in a relatively short amount of time, but frankly, this time doesn't even come close to those."

Yuki's expression turned sour. His arms were scared and a good deal part of his skin was decolored.

"By 'doesn't come close' you mean... I got special permission to see a copy of your chart up until now, and all the times before this, your bones broke like a firecracker exploding from the inside. But this time was especially bad."

Yuki crossed his arms and tightened his grip around his biceps.

"Usually, a person's body has limiters to keep it from using more than 80% of its power. But when someone faces a crisis situation, it's possible for those limiters to come off allowing them to use 100% of their power. It's called 'hysterical strength,' like when a mom lifts a car off her child."

Or when you run for your life as you carry another's.

"But we have those limiters because our bodies can't take that strain. This time, it looks like your power erupted while you were in the 'hysterical strength' stage, and for a long time at that."

A nurse finished up bandaging his arms. The doctor pulled out his x-rays to show the damage.

"It's bad enough for your bones and muscles to get battered, but it's worse for your ligaments... Ligaments protect the joints, and they're deteriorating badly. If you keep getting injured in the same way two or three more times or so, I think you'll have to live without being able to use your arms."

Yuki watched as reality finally managed to find its way into Midoriya. His expression now frightened.

"All you can do is work on rehabilitation to get them back to normal. Use them a lot, even if it hurts." the doctor ordered before turning to look at Yuki.

"We'll be leaving the rest to U.A."

The boy nodded.

"You'll be discharged from here today."

"Th-thank you very much. I'm sorry to have caused you trouble." Midoriya replied.

"Recovery-san was fed up with you. You must've gotten a lot of scolding from her and Caladrius-san from the looks of it." he joked, pulling out a note from his chest pocket.

"But there was someone who was saved by you, too." he handed the note to Midoriya.

"Well, healing begins in the mind, so don't worry too much and stay positive."

With that the doctor left. Leaving the two boys alone in the room.

"Yuki--"

"Save it. I'm not going to lecture you this time. Or ever again." Yuki declared.

His stone grey eyes made Midoriya even unsure if he should breathe at the moment.

"I-- I'll continue to heal you. Just know that if the day comes when I can't, it'll be out of my control." the healer warned before taking his leave.

"See you at school I guess."

* * *

"Caladrius-san! You're free to go, there's nothing else you ne--"

"I'll leave when the last of the students have been discarded." He replied.

Why are they trying to kick me out? Geez, I'm also healing the other patients too.

"Caladrius, it's an order from Recovery Girl. You need to rest before you pass out again."

Yuki looked up at the man who happened to be the consultant at the moment.

"I'll stop healing. Call it a day. I just need to check in with a friend of mine."

The Consultant gave him a clear sign he wasn't going to buy it.

"I swear I'll head to the staff's quarts for the night and not heal for the rest of my time here." Yuki pledged.

The staff who'd been urging him to call it a day sighed in relief.

"Unless I see it's absolutely necessary. See ya!"

"HEy!"

Yuki had one last stop to make. It had been bugging him to the point of skipping his dinner.

Maybe then I can eat peacefully.

He gently knocked on the door and waited for a reply.

"Come in."

Sorting out his thoughts last minute he opened the door to see Yaoyorozu sitting in her bed.

"Yuki-kun!" She smiled.

"Hey, I heard you're feeling better?" He asked to walk to her bedside.

"Oh yes, it's thanks to you as well. I heard you told them to get me as much food as I asked for. You didn't need to do that." she reassured.

"Yaoyorozu, you have a quirk that relies on fatty cells. In my opinion you are far too underweight to be taking your meals this lightly." Yuki retaliated. A worried look playing on his features.

This caught her off guard. "Yuki--"

"I hope you got enough to eat. If not, feel free to let them know. I made sure to put in a special request to bring as much as needed."

At the moment she couldn't feel but safe and at peace.

"Y-yeah" she stuttered, causing Yuki to smile.

He reached out to her and gently ruffled her loose strands. "Make sure you stay out of trouble, Momo."

Her face began to flush and Yuki walked out of her room. Closing it behind him.

W-w-w-w-w-what w-was t-th-t-h-that!?

* * *

"Caladrius-san isn't that your teacher?" a doctor pointed out.

Yuki was eating in the waiting room for whatever reason. He looked up to the t.v.and sure enough it was Aizawa, Vlad and Nezu.

"Yeah, it is." Yuki replied.

"And now, please watch a clip from U.A. High school's apology press conference that just occurred."

"We deeply apologize for the incident that allowed harm to come to 27 first years of the hero course because of out unpreparedness." Aizawa spoke.

"We apologize for causing unease in society due to our negligence in properly defending ourselves as a place of learning."

With another deep bow he apologized again, "We are truly sorry."

"Since the beginning of the year, U.A. High school students have had four encounters with villains. This time there were even students injured. How did you explain to their families, and what are some specific countermeasures you are taking?" a reporter asked.

Yuki watched as the camera focused on his homeroom teacher.

They're looking for someone specific to blame... not just the school.

"We will increase policing in the surrounding area and review the security within the school, ensuring the students' safety with a strong position. That is what we told them." Nezu replied.

They won't be happy with that answer.

"They're just trying to protect their reputation!" someone shouted from the seat.

"Tell me about it, I'm glad my kid didn't get in. Better safe than sorry if you asked me."

"Truly disappointing to see U.A. fall like this."

"You spoke about the students safety, EraserHead." Yuki turned his focus back to the screen.

"During the incident it appears you urged them to fight. What was your intention behind this?"

"I concluded that because we were unable to fully grasp the situation, it had to be done in order to avoid the worst possible outcome." he replied.

"What do you mean by worst possible outcome?"

What do fuck do you think shit head?!

"You don't call 26 victims and one abducted the worst possible outcome?"

Reporters always twisting the words.

"The 'worst outcome' I assumed in that situation was that the students would be at their wits' end and be killed."

"The gas attack accounts for more of the victims. We have determined that it was a sleeping gas from one of the enemies quirks."

I know that's not true Nezu.

"Thanks to the quick response of Ms. Kendo and Mr. Tetsutetsu, as well as the quick healing administered by Mr. Satori, there were no serious injuries from that attack. In addition, we are providing mental care to the students, but at the moment we do not see any signs of serious psychological trauma."

It doesn't have to be 10 students breaking down on their way to school NEZU!

"Are you saying that it was a bright spot in this tragedy?"

"We believe that the worst outcome is one that would have infringed on the future." Nezu shot back politely.

"Can you say the same thing for the kidnapped Bakugo?"

Oh no they're not--

"He enrolled at U.A. High with excellent marks and won the sports festival. In addition, during the incident with the sludge villain in middle school he resisted the powerful villain alone, so he has a history of showing how tough and heroic he can be."

No! It was his fight instincts to not DIE!

"On the other hand, the violence he showed in the finals and his attitude at the award ceremony show that he is not alway very stable mentally. What if the villains kidnapped him because they had an eye on that?"

No. He knows exactly what he's doing.

"Kidnapping him with deceitful words, and dyeing him on the path of evil? What evidence do you have for saying that he has a future?"

"He's so violent!" a voice from the visiting room piped up.

"Yeah, I wouldn't want to be rescued by him."

Yuki went to stand and say something but Aizawa finally spoke.

"As an educator, I take full responsibility for Bakugo Katsuki's violent behavior. However, his actions at the sports festival originate in what he considers 'ideal strength.' He is trying harder than anyone in his pursuit of becoming the 'top hero.' If the villains saw that and thought they had an opening, then I believe they are being short-sighted."

"That is not evidence, thought." the reported replied. "This isn't a question of how you feel. I'm asking whether or not you have a concrete plan in place."

"We are not just standing around idly. We are currently investigating along with the police. We will definitely get our student back." Nezu confirmed.

"What's the point? He already acts like a villain."

"Right! He might as well be one already."

A metal tray flew towards the two visitors.

"How dare you say such a thing!" Yuki snarled.

"Only a fool can't see he's alrea--"

"NO! HE IS NOT!" Yuki stomped over to the couple.

"He is not a villain! He is a child! How dare you villainize something when you don't understand it or refuse to have any sympathy. You pathetic pieces of-- uhmph!"

A pair of arms managed to grab a hold of the healer and cover his mouth.

"I'm so sorry!"

Yuki shook his head away from the hand. "I'm not you fuc--uhmph!"

"Caladrius!"

"I'm off the clock!"

"Yuki-kun!"

"Such a wild child!"

"I'll show you wild you--" Yuki proceeded to diligently flip the person holding him back away from him and lunge towards the couple.

Ungodly amounts of screaming emerged.

"Visiting hours are long past! What the fuck are you doing here?!"

"For your safety I'm gonna have to ask you to leave." A nurse tried to calmly tell them.

A mob of nurses and doctors now blocking Yuki's line of sight.

"They're still here! I can smell the cheap off brand perfume you bitch!"

"Yuki!"
