can I have this dance (requested)

Your breath hitched when you looked across the room.

Instantly, your eyes locked with Taylor's and you felt your heart skip a beat when she smiled that beautiful smile at you.

You've been friends for quite some time, but you've always felt something a little stronger for her from the moment you met.

And tonight, here at this afterparty, despite all the people and loud voices surrounding you, it felt like all you could see was her.

As if no one else existed.

You snapped out of your thoughts, suddenly realizing that your gaze was much too adoring and lingering to be considered something friendly.

You went to turn away, only to see that hers was the same.

Her eyes were still on you, even as people spoke to her and showered her with compliments, as she deserved.

She bit her lip but released it, an even bigger smile on her face when she realized that she'd been caught staring at you too.

She turned to her friends and you went to grab a drink, only to freeze on your feet when a slow song began to play.

People in the room began to grab others and dance.

Taylor, however, wasn't one of them.

People came up to her and held out their hands only for her to shake her head with a friendly smile.

You felt butterflies in your chest as you thought about asking her to dance.

However, she's been rejecting everyone and you worried that you'd be rejected, too.

That could come with consequences, such as that tarnishing your friendship.

Although you think of her as much more than a friend, you didn't want to jump and lose her completely.

But you also worried that a moment like this wouldn't come around again.

So you took a deep breath and walked to her.

"Taylor,"

She smiled at you, eyes locking with yours yet again.

"Can I have this dance?" You asked nervously, your hand shaking slightly as you held it out for her.

You thought she'd say no.

But instead, her eyes lit up and she smiled from ear to ear.

"I was hoping you'd ask me that."

She wrapped her fingers around yours and you walked onto the dance floor.

She slowly and gently pushed your head onto her shoulder before she put her arms around you and held you tightly.

"You give me butterflies." She whispered as she put her head on yours. "But in a good way."

You chuckled as you swayed to the slow, romantic song together.

"Is it wrong that I'm enjoying this moment with you more than I enjoyed the entire award show?"

"I'm a little offended considering I performed tonight." She teased.

"That was my favorite part."

She giggled happily, her eyes closed as she danced with you.

"It's not weird. We've known each other for several months. I think there's always been something more, something special between us. That's why I'm happy that you asked me to dance. Because this is my favorite part of the night too."

You smiled to yourself as she pulled away so she could spin you around, making the both of you giggle.

She held you close as you put your head on her chest, only for the song to finish.

She was disappointed, far from finished with these moments with you.

"Be right back," she promised and rushed up to the DJ, asking him to put a few more slow songs on, to which he happily did.

She returned to your side and pulled you back into her arms, her head falling onto yours as you slowly swayed from side to side.

You closed your eyes and wished that these moments with her wouldn't ever come to an end.
