bigger than the whole sky (requested)

Author's note: this chapter contains very sensitive content. It involves the topic of miscarriage, which I know is very hard for some to read. So please, do not read this if you are not comfortable with it.

And if you do read this, I suggest you listen to bigger than the whole sky while you read it.

This took me a while to write and it's the only thing I listened to while writing it and it's also based on the song. So I highly recommend you listen to it to bring the chapter together a bit more.

"Taylor! Taylor, wake up!" You excitedly saod as you jumped onto the bed, waking up your very sleepy wife.

"What, baby, what is it?" She sleepily mumbled.

"Taylor, get up. I have to show you something!"

She groaned as you pulled her out of bed and dragged her by the hand into the bathroom.

You stopped at the counter and waited for her to finish rubbing the sleep out of her eyes before she looked to see what you were seeing.

A gasp escaped her lips and she grabbed the positive pregnancy test off of the countertop with shaky hands, needing to be sure that she saw it closer just to make sure that it was real.

It seemed so hard to believe and too good to be true as you've been trying to start a family for the longest time.

It's been several months of failed attempts and lost hope that this day would ever come.

But it has.

It's finally happened.

You're pregnant.

"You're pregnant, baby? Oh my god!" She said as she put the test back down and then pulled you into her arms. "This is the best day ever! We're finally going to be parents!"

She spun you around and let a tear fall down her cheek as the happiness overwhelmed her and the start of your dreams of having a big, beautiful family together finally came true.

--

That was a few weeks ago and since then, things have been going wonderfully.

Even though you're not very far along, Taylor has been spoiling your baby already.

Of course, since you're not far along, you have no idea what you're having.

But that hasn't stopped Taylor from buying your baby as much as she possibly can, buying them in gender neutral colors so it would be perfect for them either way.

Toys, clothes, furniture - she's been buying it all.

The two of you just couldn't wait to meet your baby and you wanted them to feel as happy and as loved as possible.

--

You were at the store, looking around at the cribs with a cartload of things for the baby.

"Should we do something simple like white? Or should we go with black? Or maybe we could get one custom-made! We can make it any color you'd like."

"I don't know, baby. I think we still have a lot of time to decide on that."

She sighed as you continued to walk through the store, one hand in hers while her other pushed the basket.

You suddenly stopped walking though and winced in pain, making Taylor's heart drop.

"Is everything alright, darling?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." You said as you tried to brush the pain off as nothing.

You made it a few more steps while Taylor excitedly rambled on about how precious and tiny the baby shoes were and how she was going to buy the baby every pair in the shop before the pain returned and this time a lot worse.

You dropped Taylor's hand and put yours on your stomach as the pain came again.

"Y/N?" She spoke as she placed her hand on your back. "Are you alright?"

You shook your head.

"Tay, I think something's wrong."

Those were four words that Taylor never wanted to hear you say, especially not while you're pregnant.

She let go of the basket and helped you out to the car, where you saw the drops of blood rolling down your thigh.

"It's alright, my love. We're going to go to the hospital and everutjing will be okay."

But it wouldn't be.

--

Taylor had been wrong while her worst fears had been right.

It wasn't long after you arrived at the hospital that you got the awful news that you'd lost your precious little baby, making you and Taylor both completely fall apart.

"This can't be happening!" You sniffled as you and Taylor held each other tightly on the hospital bed. "This can't be real."

Taylor kissed your forehead softly as tears fell from her red eyes, slipping down her cheek again and again.

"Tay," You cried.

"I know, baby." She sniffled. "I've got you."

She put her hand on your stomach and breathed out a sad sigh as she realized that she'd never feel your baby move, not even once.

You hadn't been far enough along to experience that in the first place.

--

It was a few hours later when you got home, though it didn't feel like home anymore somehow.

On the way to the bedroom, you passed by the room that was going to be for your baby.

You and Taylor had already begun to decorate it a little.

With a chair in the room, different colors on the walls as you both tried to decide which would be best for them, with little toys and even a couple of tiny pieces of furniture - you couldn't help but cry a little more, knowing that they'd never get to experience any of that.

"Come on, baby. Let's get you into bed." She said as she helped you to the room, gently pulling you away from the baby's room and down the hall. "It's alright."

She helped you to bed and curled up beside you and before you knew it, you'd cried yourself to sleep.

--

Taylor, however, couldn't sleep.

She's been trying her hardest to keep herself together for you, or as together as she could get, and so she hasn't let out all of her tears from the situation.

Grabbing her notebook and a pen, she went down the hall to the baby's room and took a seat in the chair as she looked around.

She opened the notebook up and watched as a couple of tears fell from her eyes and landed on the page, staining it.

"I wish we'd gotten to meet." She sniffled. "It doesn't feel real. We love you so much."

She was staring up at the ceiling, the place she wanted to hang little things like stars for the baby to stare up at.

"Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye. You were bigger than the whole sky."

She covered her eyes as she sobbed, tears hitting her palms and slipping down her cheeks again.

And that's when it hit her.

She always turns to music.

Why not now?

As painful as it was, it could also be therapeutic for you and her both.

So she sang quietly as if she was talking to the little human who had her whole heart and always would.

"You were more than just a short time. I've got a lot to pine about, I've got a lot to live without. I'm never gonna meet what could've been, would've been you. What should've been you."

As she wrote it and sang it, her heart physically ached in her chest.

When she finished writing some of the words down from her busy brain, she clutched the notebook to her chest and closed her eyes.

"You truly were bigger than the whole sky." She sniffled. "I'll never forget you and I'll never stop loving you, my baby. Not ever. I promise."
