Chapter 7: Renovations

Y/n's eyes slowly opened as he lay on the bed in the lighthouse. It was more comfortable than sleeping in the van, that much was certain.

With a groan, he sat up, trying to get his bearings as he brought his tired body back to full power. "Pair, have we got any plans today?" He asked, finally conscious after that great night's sleep.

Pair beeped in his usual tone as he sat next to his master's armour. "Hmm ... well, since we aren't doing anything, why don't we renovation the downstairs? We could put it to use as a workshop." Y/n stood up and stretched all the muscles he could, trying to wake up his entire body.

Pair beeped in agreement. "Right, let me just get myself sorted before I head out." Y/n decided to head up the stairs so he could have a shower. The shower was larger than he expected, for a lighthouse anyway.

Either way, he was quick to shower off, so he could feel fresh. Completing the rest of his usual morning routine, Y/n walked back into the main room and put some bread in the toaster, wanting to have something for breakfast before he goes out to buy things for his workshop.

"I need to figure out what to get ... any ideas Pair?" Y/n said as he buttered the toast that popped out, taking a bite out of a slice. Pair had moved closer to Y/n, beeping some suggestions at him, everything a usual workshop should include.

"Hmm, not bad ideas ... I should have enough money from doing those handyman jobs that I can buy a good selection of tools ... better than the ones I have now." Finishing the pieces of toast he made, and cleaning off the plate.

Humming in satisfaction, he went over to finish getting dressed, throwing on whatever was there.

"Alright, I'm ready to go. I shouldn't be too long, keep an eye on the lighthouse." Y/n said, as he grabbed his backpack and threw it around his shoulders, finally ready for a shopping spree.

Y/n walked down the spiral staircase and out the front door, locking it. He then moved towards his van which was parked down the hill as he didn't want to ruin the grass, it seemed to had life around the lighthouse.

The small journey came to an end when he reached the Maroon coloured van, he got in and started her up. The van whirled to life as he began driving towards the nearest hardware store, luckily, it was relatively close by and within the boundaries of the town.

Whether it would have anything useful to him, he didn't know but it was worth a shot. It didn't take Y/n long for him to reach the hardware store, especially with the van, but once he parked up, Y/n walked in and started browsing.

"Lets see here ..." He mumbled to himself as he looked through the various tools and equipment that he would need. Realising that he needed a basket to carry all of the stuff he was going to buy, he quickly went back to the front of the store and picked one up, just as quick to resume his browsing.

After a few moments, he had already picked out a bunch of things he desperately needed. With a few moments later, the basket was almost bursting with an array of items destined to help Y/n improve the lighthouse, his weapons and even armour.

"This should do it." Y/n said confidently as he walked over to the self-checkout, scanning all the items which ranged from a drill with drill bits to metal plates, with the total cost coming to just under 100-dollars.

With a few grumbles, Y/n pulled out the money and paid for the tools, placing them into a few bags and took them out of the shop. Y/n made his way to the van, opening the back doors and placing the stuff inside, something felt off though, he couldn't put his finger on it, but it felt like he was being watched.

Y/n quickly turned around, not seeing anyone but definitely felt like someone was watching. Shrugging he made his way back into the van, starting it up and driving in the direction of the lighthouse, still, on the ride home, he felt off. Someone or something was following him.

"What the hell?" Y/n questioned as he managed to catch a glimpse of Garnet jumping from building to building in his review mirror.

He quickly pulled into a nearby parking lot and turned off the van, seeing if he could see Garnet anywhere. His assumption was correct, in his review mirror, he could see a slight glimpse of Garnet's head.

"Okay, is she following me?" Y/n asked to no one as he sat in the van, seeing if she would do anything. After a few moments, nothing happened, Garnet just stayed there. Having enough, Y/n exited the van, and walked in the direction of her.

"Garnet!" He called to her.

Once he did, Garnet jumped down from on top of the building. "Yes?" She questioned with her arms crossed.

"Why ... are you following me?" Y/n asked.

Garnet didn't say anything straight away. "I wanted to see how you were fitting in." She said simply, adjusting her visor. It wasn't a complete lie, but the main reason that Garnet was following Y/n was because of her inability to see his future, it made no sense to her as every gem and human she came across, she could always see their future ... but for some reason, for Y/n, a simple human, she can't manage a single vision.

"Well ... I'm fitting in great, doing odd jobs for people, making a good first impression, that kind of thing." Y/n shrugged, he could tell Garnet was hiding something, just looking at her screamed secrets.

"Good to hear." Garnet started, her form relaxing slightly before adding. "Steven's game station is acting up, could you take a look at it?" She asked. That wasn't a lie, the game station had begun acting up and needed fixing or even replacing, but Garnet wanted to see how her future vision would react if she knew what he was going to do.

"Sure can do, let me get back, sort a few things out and then I'll see you at the time." Y/n said, smiling as he turned to head to the van.

"Thank you." Garnet said as she jumped away and in the direction of the temple.

"Now that, was weird." Y/n chuckled. Before, he headed to Steven's he wanted to sort out the downstairs, not much to be sorted out thankfully, just move some furniture from the main area and then keep his weapons, armour, and tools down there.

----------------------------------------

Y/n managed to return home and collected the bags out of the back of the van, taking them up to the lighthouse door. He quickly locked the door and headed down the stairs, dropping off all the things he brought at the bottom of the stairs.

"It'd probably be a good idea to start moving some furniture down here ... there's a few things in the main room I don't need there." Y/n said to himself as he proceeded to walk back up the stairs and into the main room.

"Pair, I'm back and brought a bunch of stuff, its downstairs, I'm just gonna move some of this stuff down there too." Y/n first moved towards a small table that was sitting near the corner, it was a decent table that could be used for a number of things, it was probably used for conspiracy theories or something.

Y/n went back and forth, moving various furniture downstairs as he tried to get it set up as a workshop, after he was done, it still needed a number of things, but he could always buy those off the internet.

"Okay, now that's done, I should really see about fixing Steven's game station thingy." Y/n said as he left the lighthouse and started walking around the hill, finally giving himself a better view of the temple.

"Oh wow, now that is pretty damn cool." He looked at the temple in awe due to how big and well-designed it was.

It didn't take him long to walk up the deck stairs and knock on the front door to the beach house. "I'll get it!" A familiar young boy shouted as he ran down some stairs and opened the door. "Y/n? What're you doing here?" He asked, surprised but happy with the visit.

"Oh, Garnet told me that you're game station needs a bit of fixing." He responded as Steven smiled and nodded, moving out of the way to let Y/n in.

Y/n obliged and walked into the Beach House, he looked around, and was surprised to see how well it was built, and even how tidy it was. He also noticed that only Garnet was in the house, leaning up against a wooden support beam.

Garnet nodded toward Y/n and gave him a thumbs up which Y/n was quick to return. "Okay, its just up here." Steven said, bringing Y/n's attention back to him and walking up the stairs into his bedroom.

"What's wrong with it?" Y/n asked as he looked at the already disassembled gaming console.

"Well ... Amethyst may have kicked it on accident and when we tried to fix it, all the wires came out ... Pearl said she wouldn't help us ... can you fix it??" The little by asked hopefully as he gave Y/n a puppy dog look.

"I can try, it doesn't seem too complicated." Y/n nodded, sitting down in front of the console, and started messing around with it.

As Y/n started working on the broken game console, Garnet was watching and still unable to predict his future, even though he was working on something simple. She didn't know what to do, so instead of giving up and heading into her room to meditate, she stayed in the room and continued to watch Y/n work on the piece of human technology.

After a few minutes and continued staring from Garnet, Y/n was able to repair the device and hopefully improved its performance too. "There we are, start it up." Y/n said as he stood up and watched Steven start the device with excitement.

"Yes! It works! Thank you so much!" Steven said with a massive smile.

Y/n chuckled. "Don't mention it, just try not to let it break again." He said, nodding to Steven as he turned and started walking down the stairs.

"Here, take this." Garnet approached Y/n and handed him a 20-dollar note, it was left on the side for emergencies in case Greg or Pearl wasn't in.

"Don't worry about it, think of this as a neighbour helping a neighbour." Y/n to Garnet, who simply nodded and placed the bill back on the side.

"Thank you. Feel free to visit anytime." She nodded, once again leaning against the support beam.

"Oh Yeah! That would be awesome! We could play all sorts of games!" Steven exclaimed as he loaded up a game to start playing on his newly fixed console.

"I might take you up on that offer in the future." Y/n said, turning around and heading for the door.

After saying goodbyes to the two of them, he started walking back to the lighthouse, happy with how things turned out. Although, he was curious to what secrets Garnet was hiding, hopefully Y/n would find out soon.

---------------------------------------------------

Y/n sat downstairs at the table he had recently moved. "You sure this is the best design for a 50. Cal rifle?" He asked as he used his hands to zoom in and out of the design Pair was projecting.

With a few beeps and boops, Pair defended the design, saying it was easy and cheap to create. "Hmm, you're not wrong ... what about the bullets? I should have the stuff needed to make them come soon." As he said this, Pair changed his projection to bullet assembly and general creation, this made Y/n sigh in relief. Yes, Y/n was smart enough to design and create such bullets, but it surely would've taken much longer than he was happy with, especially with all the weird stuff going down.

"Alright, this is getting good. By the way, I was thinking of a new idea to make money." Y/n spoke as Pair had dismissed the hologram and beeped in interest of this idea.

"What if I create anti-virus software and even some gaming platforms? Those shouldn't be hard to program, and it should help money come in at a good rate." Y/n proposed his plan to Pair, who's response was very happy beeping.

"I just need to figure out how to get a credit card ... or maybe use someone's who is closer and generally better to be around ..." Y/n pondered for a moment. "Greg! What if I used Greg's card? Or at least got him to set up another bank account with my money in it?" He posed the question to the small drone, who beeped in agreement once again.

"Right well, we can do that another day, for now, lets see what other designs we can come up with!" Y/n smiled as he sat with Pair downstairs and continue to develop designs for weapons and even armour that could be built at a later date.

Y/n was happy, he was finally getting somewhere within this timeline, even with all of its strange difference to his own. It was starting to feel like home.
