chapter six

It was only a matter of time before Laurance fell head over heels. Looking back now my annoyance was jealousy I couldn't get over.

He's with Aphmau, and they're practically inseparable. I've tried my best to get over him. It's been working slightly, but it's not working well. I'm somewhat over him.

Now, it's December. Vylad's birthday is at the end of the month, and we've already pitched in money to buy him a nice camera like he wanted. He's going to be seventeen. It feels like months ago when he's was almost thirteen and was making covers. Where has the time gone? My birthday is right around the corner. Laurance's is a decent chunk away, and Alex's is right after mine.

"Is everything ready for sound check?" I look over to Vylad. He reminds me of a mini Leo in a way where he typically knows what exactly is happening and when. So when Leo isn't around, I go to Vylad.

"It should be," he says, shrugging before groaning, suddenly remembering something. He rolls his eyes. "If we can find Laurance. He disappeared again."

Alex walks over with her bass in hand, sharing Vylad's annoyance. "He snuck off with Aphmau," she says. "Maybe we can just start without him and he'll get the point. It's bad enough he keeps inviting her backstage during our concerts."

I sigh. She's not wrong. He's been doing it so often lately that even Leo is getting annoyed. He understands from time to time, but it's constantly. Then when the concerts over, he disappears leaving us in his dust. It's like we don't even exist anymore according to him.

The two of us agree and head onto stage. Leo takes notice of this and questions where Laurance is. He isn't pleased when he stomps off to find him.

The three of us begin to test out the microphones. We do our typically warm ups as we continue to wait for Laurance. Soon, we grow incredibly annoyed as we look at each other.

Vylad sighs and walks over to Laurance's spot, testing out his microphone so it's ready for whenever he decides to come out of hiding. Then, when he's finished, he walks back to his drums. We're losing time to warm up and practice because of Laurance.

The tech guy looks up at us. "Is there anything you can play that doesn't heavily depend on Laurance?" He asks. It's clear to see how bothered the crew is. We're bothered as it is, but now they have to retrace all their steps when Laurance comes back. He's being unprofessional for a girl.

We look at each other, mumbling a soft conversation amongst each other before deciding on a song. We can count. We have our ear pieces. It just may sound a bit empty and awkward without Laurance's guitar.

A few minutes into playing we can see Laurance walking into the room. His hair messy and lips swollen. He acts as though nothing is wrong as he picks up his guitar and begins to pluck a few cords.

We stare at him in disbelief. Leo walks in with Aphmau who has an embarrassed expression on her face. It seems they were both just caught in the act by Leo. I just don't understand why Laurance thinks this is okay.

"Why are you all staring at me? Is there something on my face?"

Alex looks at him unamused, crossing her arms over her chest. "Aphmau's lips were," she says.

He looks at her, dryly laughing at her comment. If I wasn't so angry I would've genuinely laughed at it. "Ha ha, very funny Alex. We don't have time to waste. We need to get to work."

Vylad clears his throat from the back. "We were doing work. You decided to spend that time with Aphmau. You have no right to talk about wasting time."

Laurance opens his mouth but falls silent. He doesn't say another thing unless it's his turn to sing. It remains that way for a little while until after the show. But even then, we're left behind him in the dust.

Leo paces back and forth in front of us. If this were an anime, he would definitely have steam pouring from his ears. It's the next day, and Leo is still angry from last night.

"I don't want her coming here anymore," he commands, narrowing his eyes at Laurance when he stops walking. For once the three of us are in the clear and Laurance is getting called out for his shit. It feels nice for a change. Besides, he's saying everything we've been holding back.

Laurance scoffs, standing up from his spot to get to eye level with Leo. I don't know why he's looking for power when he's clearly in the wrong. "Why? What has she done wrong?"

"Let me see," Leo says, beginning to count on his fingers before looking back up at him. "She distracts you from your work. You don't show up to anything on time. You ignore your band mates. And then you decide to walk in like everything's okay. How does this look okay to you!"

"I haven't done a single thing you just named."

"Then you need to open your eyes, Laurance. Before you ruin it for yourself."
