Arc 4.12 Devon

Arc 4.12 Devon

Devon had his eyes closed.

He felt that someone was calling him. The voice felt familiar but at the same time uncomfortable.

A black smoke hovered above his head with a tint of red-light dancing above his head.

It swayed sometime and lick his hair in amusement.

Devon furrowed his eyebrows together.

His heart churned feeling an entity burrowing itself deep inside his heart. He frowned when the door to his heart was forcefully being invaded by the entity.

"... I love you." A man in white cried in golden blood.

"GET OUT!"

Before the entity could get a closer look into his heart's desire, Devon who had awakened from his trance menacingly grab the dark smoke with his bare hands in pure anger.

The dark smoke was surprised and did not expect that a pure human like him who was just a mere ant to him grab his entity with no body with his hand which was completely impossible because he was like a wisp of air, you can feel it but never hold it.

The smoke like dark entity wriggled out of Devon's hands a bit nervous. He could feel the consciousness his air like entity was made of was slowly being ripped to shed piece by piece by the Devon who was stared at it with his blood shot eyes.

The entity panic due to that the dark entity was connected directly to his soul and that if it were destroyed it will cause his soul some damage.

"D.amn bas.tard.." Were the last words of the dark entity before it dispersed to nothing.

Devon had a grim face on as he stared at the space where the dark entity he shattered had vanished.

"A dark entity. How interesting. It seems like this world is about to fall into chaos once more."

A voice in the dark said.

"Seeing that even a dark entity is interested in you how delicious could your soul be, Your Majesty."

A smiling man came out of the dark, he looks at Devon with eyes neither warm nor cold.

"High Mage, what are you doing here?" Devon's grimace deepened.

"Nothing. I felt a dark entity invading the palace. Thinking that it might bring harm I followed it, but I did not expect that you could even make its soul disperse with just a wave of your hand. I underestimated your abilities, Hero."

"I am not a Hero." Devon snorted.

"You may deny it, but you are a chosen one. Don't you think that is your sole reason for coming here?"

Devon stared at him hard and scoff.

"No."

The high mage just smiled.

"Stop smiling using that face whose identity you have stolen."

"Aren't we just the same?"

The High Mage laugh and took of his or her disguise.

Devon coldly stared at the figure that was slowly coming into being in front of him. The High Mage who used to be a tall man shrink, his old face slowly grew youthful and becoming feminine.

"Were different. At least mine is someone who granted me his body in exchange for my help. Anyway, the original owner is already dead, not my fault. He is not losing out in any way anyway. But yours, did you have to dirty your hand to get your hands on his identity to invade the royal palace."

The "High Mage" smiled.

"Huh. Holy Priestess?"

"You have wronged me, Your majesty."

The Holy Priestess look at Devon with a wronged face as if he was slandering, pouring dirty waters on her.

"I don't need to dirty my hands with his blood. Anyways, he is old. He died due to old age."

Devon snorted.

"I don't care how he died. I only care about why you are here."

Devon's eyes turned even colder looking at the Holy Priestess. He does not trust her, most of all knowing that she knew his secret.

"If you dare lie to me, know that you will not be leaving here alive."

Devon stared at her sharply.

The Holy Priestess smile turned grim. She could feel Devon's powerful and most of all mysterious power surging inside the room like a crouching beast ready to pounce on her anytime if it finds her tasty.

She felt her breathe hastened. She felt suffocated just being inside the same room as him.

The bloodthirst and killing intent she could feel from him was so thick that she knew he was not someone who will joke about life and death.

Just the death aura behind him could make anyone pee in their pants, what more she who could actually see the thick death aura surrounding him.

She knew instantly that the soul who had replaced the original Devon is more dangerous and bloodthirsty than the Demon they feared.

Getting on the Demon's bad side would be much better than getting on his bad side. Since if they get on the bad side of the Demon's they will die a quick death but if its him, who knows what will happen to them. Even their soul might not be spared by him.

She stops teasing him and look him dead in the eyes.

"Then I won't lie to you. I am here for your head." The Holy Priestess said her last words in a faint voice a bit nervous.

Her eyes darted back and forth. She coughed.

"But that won't be necessary now!"

She uncharacteristically raised her voice feeling the chills running through her neck. It was as if a cold hand was caressing her neck from behind like a knife ready to chop her head off.

"It should be. Or you won't know whose head will fly."

"Of course, that was in the past when we thought of you as an incapable King but you're not actually. It was that imposter running amok destroying the Kingdom. With such bearing, your presence alone could subdue any Demonic force and your majestic bearing could conquer a Kingdom. Great. Really great!"

Devon hearing the Holy Priestess flattering him had a deadpan expression. It looks like she was really a shameless person.

He thought that the High Mage persona was a made-up shameless person but who would have thought that she herself is so shameless that to save her little life she won't hesitate to boot lick him.

"What are you going to do with my head if your plan had succeeded?"

Devon put his hand together and smiled at the Holy Priestess with a smile that is not a smile.

The Holy Priestess felt chills run through her spine just by looking at his smile.

"That... Well, it's not that bad just sacrifice your body and soul to seal the Ancient Demons back to their eternal prison. You know, leaving no ashes behind and scattering your soul on the process. Haha."

The Holy Priestess woodenly laughs.

"I see."

Devon's smile got even deeper but colder. His eyes became piercing cold as if sharp pieces of ice are stabbing her directly through her heart.

"Don't think that because you're such a scum worthless King worthy to be killed and never reincarnate that was why the Church wanted to kill you! I mean your imposter was such a scum! He deserves to get his soul scattered and never reincarnate!"

Devon looks at her with cold eyes.

"So why the original?"

"Truly it's not because the Church dislikes you, really, its just that the current Emperor accidentally inherited the purest blood of the Hero in ancient times that had sealed the Ancient Demons. You had the blood of the ancient Hero in your veins."

"Do you mean that in this body is the ancient Hero's blood?"

"Yes."

The Holy Priestess turned serious and look him in the eye.

"Long ago, the ancient Hero fell in love with the daughter of a noble and married her. The Hero then became a Duke in title passing on his blood to his descendants. Though this history had been lost in the passage of time due to the rise and fall of the empire, the blood of the ancient Hero was not lost. And coincidentally, when your parents married each other, both of descendants of the Heroes who descended, you had inherited the pure lineage of the Heroes than is now flowing through your veins."

"How unlucky."

"Alas, you just happened to be in the era where the Ancient Demons are about to be released from the shackles that the ancient Heroes had imprisoned them. And to stop them from doing so, we need the blood of the descendant of the Hero to fix the array. It just happens that it was you, the original owner of that body."

The Holy Priestess laugh awkwardly and look at the floor as if it was the most interesting floor in the entire world.

Devon was in a daze state for just a second before a cruel smile spread on his lips.

The Holy Priestess almost jump in fright looking at his face as if a Demon had descended in the mortal world just to make her suffer.

'Oh my word. Goddess of Life, do help me escape here alive!'

"So, do you think that my life needs to be sacrifice for this world peace?" Devon asked in a calm voice, but the darkness hidden in its depths already could make her feet feel soft.

The Holy Priestess look at him incredulously.

'Do I even have a choice? NO!'
