CHIEF Inspector Camila Cabello of Cambridge Police Station in London was respected by the citizens there, she was loved because of her good deeds that is out of her job.

She’s single, not petite not too tall, just average in height, brunette hair that is cut as police officer’s hair, 30yrs old and if there’s complaint they always look for Chief Inspector Cabello and the juniors will lead them directly to her office and one fine day when some anonymous caller called to her office.

“Camila Cabello, here,” she answered after picking the cradle of the phone.

“Don’t hang up please, please, officer, I need your help...”

Camila frowned when she heard it on the other line, the person on the other line knew who she was and the voice is somewhat afraid and fast so she knows that this caller is in danger so she listened, “I’m listening.”

“Officer, please, please, my wife, my kids they will be killed by Shawn Mendes’ men! I can’t give you enough evidence but I’m saying the truth! I’m a chemical engineer, a professor in Cambridge University when Mendes abducted me from where I teach, he threatened my family if I will not cooperate, so I did, I did all the things that he wanted me to do, us, because I’m not alone in here officer, lots of us, listen officer few years from now a chemical attack will be launch in the US, I don’t know the exact location but believe me, I don’t know what to do anymore…”

She heard him sobbing, “where are you? Tell me so I can give you a protection order.”

“I don’t know, I really don’t know, sooner or later he will kill me too, I’m Richard Collson, you will know that I’m telling the truth when you found me dea…”

And the line went dead, “hello? Collson? Collson! Shit!” and she quickly took another folder where the missing list had been filed, she swear that last week a Chemical Engineer professor named Richard Collson was reported missing by his wife and she don’t know if it’s really true if his wife is dead or not then she jolted when someone knock, “come in,” she said.

“Inspector, we had a bad news,” another officer reported.

“Tell me.”

“Richard Collson’s wife who reported to us that her husband is missing was found dead together with her 2 kids in their residence just this morning.”

Camila's breath hitch, her heart is pounding so fast, and rubbed her face because of frustration and stood, grabbing her police hat, tuck her service firearm to her holster and left the office.

“I-Inspector, where were you going?”

“Stand by on the telephone especially in my office, if someone wants to talk to me, direct it to my phone immediately,” she ordered.

“Y-Yes, Inspector,” the junior officer replied feeling scared all of a sudden because seeing Chief Inspector Cabello being serious is scary as shit.

Camila left the station and together with the other junior officer rode on the patrol car.

She still remembered what Richard told her and it didn’t leave her mind even for a bit. She meant it that his report will not be admissible as long as it doesn’t support any solid evidence and there’s no recording in her telephone that makes her frustrated even more. She was nervous at the same time because how can she save Collson from the hands of Shawn Mendes who is well respected businessman, most fearsome in UK because his business is big and did big enough contribution in UK.

It’ll surely be a tough case but she had to do what she needed to do, she's a police officer after all and no one is an exemption from the law.

They arrived at Collson’s residence which now surrounded by police tapes and an officer interviewing the neighbourhood who was there. She stepped out of the vehicle and wore her hat and walked towards the crime scene, the junior officers greeted her by a salute.

“Inspector, I’m glad you’re here,” Superintendent Austin Mahone said when he saw Camila and greeted her.

“What’s the cause?”

“Robbery, but I think not,” and he led Camila inside the house where the forensic team conducted their gathering of evidences.

They see the body of Richard’s wife in the living room, face down and bathe in its own blood and base on the blood it was done 4hrs ago, probably at dawn.

“Do you get what I mean? If it’s really a robbery her wounds are not that fatal,” and he kneeled after wearing a gloves then pointed the gunshot wounds, “2 gunshot wounds in her chest and 1 in the neck and the kids,” and he shook his head, “same, mostly in the chest, this is not just a simple robbery.”

Camila gritted her teeth while her fists are clenching then looked at to Austin, “Sir, can I talk to you in private?”

“Sure,” and they move far away from the team, “what is it?” he asked in a whisper where the two of them could only hear.

“I don’t know if you believe me but—Richard called me just this morning.”

“What?”

“He expected that this will happen to his family.”

“What do you mean, Cabello? We just can’t simply put his words here and what do you mean he called? He’s been missing right?”

“Don’t think that I’m communicating with him and I know he’s missing, it took me by surprise too when he said his name, he even told me that few days from now, sooner or later, we will believe his words after we found him dead.”

“What happened? Where is he?”
“Based on his voice, he’s frightened and somewhat told me in a hoarse whisper, he must be hiding when he called me, he told me something about Shawn Mendes, he said that his men took him forcefully from the university where he teaches and threatened him to kill his family if he didn’t cooperate, he also told me that few years from now a chemical attack will be launch in the US, and this happened to his family as what he expected.”

“Camila…”

“I know what you mean okay, he will not lie and I know that his words alone are not admissible as evidence in court but his family are already dead, his only proof, do you think he will still lie? He’s a responsible, loving husband and a father and I will gather some evidence to prove that and put that Mendes bastard behind bars.”

“We just can’t accuse him, you know that!” Austin said in gritted teeth.

“That’s why we will gather evidence and if you don’t want then I will, trust me I will, Richard asked for help, remember what I said and I hope we’re not too late for that,” and she left the crime scene after giving one last look of the lifeless body of Mrs Collson, she will broke down if she saw the kids lifeless body too, she will not take it.

“Camila!” but the brunette didn’t look back and he sighed, “fuck…”

Camila did begin her own investigation once the report was done and passed to her by the investigator on case. She even growled low when she read the subject Alleged Robbery with Homicide almost ripping the police report apart because she can’t do anything for now to changed that to Multiple Murder.

She put the police report together with the missing report of Richard Collson that was made by his wife and closed the folder.

One by one she studied all the information that was taken from the witness carefully without holes, the neighbours. Even though she was consumed by her work she still noticed that someone entered her office without knocking and she already know who it is.

“You didn’t even know now how to knock? Does the case consume your thinking?” and she looked up looking at Austin.

“Camila please, whatever you’re doing, stop it, we don’t have strong evidence against him.”

“Yet, we don’t have that but soon, I will and don’t tell me to stop this, you know me Austin, I hope you understand, if you will not help me on this case, please leave.”

“Chief Inspector Cabello, I’m ordering you to stop.”

Camila’s jaw tightened when she heard it, “ordering me to stop my work?” and she shook her head, “why Superintendent Mahone, you will make a request and transfer me to another station, away from London? Even if you do that, you cannot stop me.”

Austin move closer and leaned forward, “I’m just concerned of you.”

“I appreciate that, really, but please pull back your face if you don’t want your lovely wife saw us, thinking we’re kissing.”

“Camila…”

“I’m serious,” and she sighed, “do you want to say something to me, because I can feel it.”

“No.”

“Is it because Shawn Mendes is a powerful man and he can do anything and even my job and my position in law enforcement will fuck it up, is that what you’re trying to say to me?” and she waited for his answer just stared at her, “your silence speak so well,” and she continued her work.

Austin clenched his fists and said, “I hope you will not regret everything in the end,” and he turn his back, ready to leave but Camila’s words stopped him for a bit.

“I will not regret anything because I did something right, that’s the meaning of a police officer if you don’t know that, the oath we took, the basic thing to do when you’re a police officer and I will not fear someone who is not afraid of the law, but thank you and Austin, I hope you will do the right thing after you saw my dead body too.”

And Austin left the office.

Camila was fuming because her fear came.

Just this morning, the missing man Richard Collson was now found dead near the dumpster, it was evident that he was being beaten to death, his face almost not recognizable, several cuts on his arms and the suspect is not satisfied and shot him, the same manner as what happened to his family.

She glared at Austin after seeing the forensic report and closed all the blinds of her office and locked it and there she sulk, frustrated and angry.

Austin clenched his fists while watching Camila’s office closed. He saw it, he saw her face, angry and frustrated. The dead body of Richard Collson was now in the morgue, full of bruises, gunshot wounds in his chest and his skull was broke, just like what happened to his family.

He took his phone and went to his contacts and searched for Superintendent Armando Perez when he found it, he looked once again on Camila’s office and made a call to the other Superintendent.

“Hey bud, listen, there’s something I need to tell you…”

On the other side of the city.

“Sir, I have something to tell you.”

Shawn Mendes smirk when he saw his favourite secretary fast approaching to his desk, he stood and stopped him with a kiss and a squeeze on his butt and asked, “what is it?”

“Carlos called and said that Chief Inspector Cabello was in the site of where we dump Collson, not just that after she went to the site she also went to his house where his family is killed.”

Shawn rubbed his chin thinking of something, “where’s Justin?”

“He just left, out with his wife.”

And he nodded, “I’ll see you tonight,” and he saw him nod, “you may leave,” after his other secretary left he took his phone and made a call, “I have some work for you…”

“What?!” Superintendent Perez, asked in shock in his thick Spanish accent, after Austin his bud told him about Camila’s theory regarding the killing of Collson’s family, Austin didn’t leave any single detail, he told it all to him, every detail.

“Yes, bud, and I need your help, I want to talk to Chief Superintendent DeGeneres.”

“Of course I will help as long as you had support on your theory.”

“I have here but it’s Camila’s theory not mine,” and he handed it to him, “but—I don’t know if that’s enough.”

Perez nodded when he saw the report, “no, this will do, do you want to come now?" and handed back the folder.

“Yes, if it’s okay,” and he accepted the folder, “I don’t want to be late.”

Armando smirk, “you’re still concerned of Camila.”

“She’s like a sister to me.”

“Yeah, yeah.”

“I’m serious.”

And Armando just raised his hands informing Austin that he will stop.

Armando know that Austin had a crush on Camila while on they were training days that’s why he’s teasing him.

Chief Superintendent Ellen DeGeneres furrowed her brows when she saw in her own office the presence of both Superintendent Armando Perez and Austin Mahone and she immediately stopped from writing.

“Are we having a reunion here? Where’s the little other one, Chief Inspector Camila Cabello, is she ready now to accept the higher position or she still love being a Chief Inspector?”

“I’m sorry to disappoint you but no, ma’am,” Austin answered in respect tone.

“May I know why you’re both here in my office?”

“Permission to speak, ma’am,” Armando said.

Ellen sighed, “go ahead,” and she slumped backward, leaning to her leather chair, placing her sign pen on the table.

“Superintendent Mahone had something to tell you, a very important case that is happening now in the AOR of Cambridge Station, regarding the Collson’s family’s death.”

“Yes, I heard it from the news and I’m waiting for that, report,” and she looked at to Austin, “Superintendent Mahone is the case ready to be filed in court?”

“No, ma’am but I’m here to tell you something.”

“Please, both of you have a seat.”

And the two followed.

“Tell me, what did you wanted me to know about the case? Is there something wrong about it?” she asked when she leaned forward.

“Inspector Cabello said that Richard Collson called her in the morning on the same day when we received a report about what happen to Collson’s family,” Austin began.

“Come again?”

“Richard Collson called Inspector Cabello on the same day his family killed.”

Ellen slumped backward letting out a nervous sigh.

“She said, she doesn’t have enough evidence yet but she’s going to find it, she said to me that Collson himself told her that few years from now a chemical attack will launch in the US and the one who abducted him is Shawn Mendes’ men, Collson can’t do anything because Mendes threatened to kill his family.”

“Now his family is dead,” Ellen continued.

“Yes, ma’am, Collson already predicted that, he said that we will believe his words once we saw him dead and we did found him dead,” and he handed a folder, “Inspector Cabello handed it to me, hoping I will change my mind and helped her in the investigation.”

Ellen accepted the folder and opened it, “are you telling me that she did the investigation on her own, alone?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“And why you’re not helping her? Are you afraid of something Mahone?”

“Mendes is an influential businessman, he might do something that will put Cabello’s position at risk.”

“And what, Mahone, you will just let your fear just because he’s big and influential?” and she shook her head, “I can’t believe you,” and she read the report, “some cases like this is a national threat that can’t be disregard easily, this is not just happened here in London, several chemical scientist has been reported missing too and now I’m hearing this to you,” and she sighed, “hmm modus operandi, same group that killed his family, a call from Richard Collson himself is a huge step to find the culprit and the future threat,” and she closed the folder and looked at to Austin again, “you’re trembling of fear because you know what he can do and Cabello didn’t care who he is as long as he stained the law and murdered innocent people, where’s your sense of justice, Mahone?” and she stood, “go back to your precinct and help Cabello on her investigation, I already know what you’re trying to say so don’t give me a goddamn excuse,” she said between gritted teeth.

Armando and Austin stood and both gave a salute.

“Yes, ma’am,” Austin complied.

“And please, Mahone, don’t drag Perez here again so you can talk to me, you’re still afraid of me?” and he didn’t answer, “your silence speaks well, you may leave.”

“Thank you, ma’am.”

Austin and Armando left after talking to Ellen.

Ellen stared at the report and made a call, “Chief Superintendent DeGeneres, here…”
