Surprise

Four months later
Alfie was in the office meeting with the Shelby's for typical business. Lizzie Stark walked in and Tommy stopped talking.
"Mr. Solomons, Charlotte's on the phone for you and she said it was urgent."
Tommy looked at Alfie who ran to the phone.
          "Charlie."
She was talking fast and quiet over the phone.
          "Charlie, slow down. What's wrong?"
Tommy was listening, but not trying to show it. She said something and his eyes went wide.
"Alfie, he's going to kill me if he finds out."
"Yeah he will. I'm coming to get you right now." He said.
Tommy's head shot up as he looked at Alfie.
"Chase is helping me escape and come up with a lie. Can you meet me two towns over by tomorrow?"
"I'm on my way now. Stay away from him. Be careful, Charlie." Alfie said and then hung up.
He turned around and the whole family was staring at him.
"I have to go to Australia. I'll be back in a few days."
"Is she okay? What's wrong?" Tommy asked.
"Don't act like you actually care about her." He yelled and walked out.
Everyone looked at Tommy and he looked concerned. Alfie arrived in Australia the next day and was waiting on Charlotte. She walked up with her brother carrying her suitcases. Alfie looked at her bruised face.
          "Did he find out?"
"No...this was him coming home drunk last night."
Alfie looked at Chase.
"And you let him do that to her?" He said as he started to go towards him.
Charlotte stepped between them and looked at Alfie.
"Without Chase...I wouldn't be able to leave. He's helped me since I've been here. We've made our peace."
"So what's the story then?" Alfie asked.
"You know my wife, Sienna is in America with the kids, taking care of her sister and parents. Noah thinks that she called and asked Charlotte for help and of course our father okay'd it because it's me. I'll be covering for her here." Chase said.
Alfie nodded.
"Thank you, Chase. You're saving my life." She said as she hugged him.
"I'm sorry it took me this long to be a big brother."
"You're making up for it now."
They pulled away and he kissed her cheek.
"Whenever I can get away I'll call and check on you and I'll come visit you soon." He said.
She nodded and smiled. Chase shook Alfie's hand.
"Thank you for you taking care of her, Alfie."
          "I always will." Alfie said.
"Alright go, before you're caught." Chase said.
Alfie and Charlotte left and were on their long journey back to England. It was night time and they were still on the plane. Charlotte was staring out the window and Alfie could tell she was worried. He grabbed her hand and she looked at him.
"No matter what happens, you're not alone." He said.
She gave a small smile and squeezed his hand.
"Thank you, Alfie...and thank you for dropping everything to come and get me."
"Of course. I will always come and save my Charlie." He joked.
"But you shouldn't have to. You didn't sign up for this. It's not fair to you or anyone."
"You are my best friend and I love you. This is what we do. Just like the time you came and beat up Amy because she cheated on me." He laughed.
"She was a bitch." She laughed.
"Yeah she was, but you came and took care of it. God the fear in her eyes."
They both laughed.
"Plus this was an exciting adventure in my boring life in England." He joked.
          "How is England? The business?"
"Oh you know...illegal activities...more money for me."
"Well that's good. I'm glad business is going well."  She smiled.
"He misses you, you know." He said as he nudged her shoulder.
She turned her head and looked out the window.
          "And you miss him too."
She cut her eyes at him because he was right and she hated it.
"I thought you hated him." She said.
"I do because of what he did to you, but if you take him back...I can look passed that."
"Alfie, I never said I was taking him back. I forgive him for what he did, but I don't know."
"So what are you going to do then?"
They looked at each other.
"Well right now I'm going to sleep." She said as she put her head on his arm and shoulder.
Alfie rested his head on the seat and closed his eyes. Charlotte kept moving her head and he opened one eye at her.
"Are you having trouble there?" He asked.
She hit his arm and tried to get comfortable.
"Why do your arms have to be muscular. They are so hard. It doesn't make for a good pillow."
He smirked.
"What can I say? The ladies love a man with muscles." He gloated.
"Well this girl doesn't at the moment."
He laughed and then gave her his coat. She positioned it against his arm and finally leaned against it. The next day came and they slept most of the day at home since they flew the whole day before. Charlotte woke up and it was around dinner time. She got dressed and put a big, bulky coat on. Charlotte got downstairs and Alfie had a set of keys in his hand.
"If he finds out, this will be the first place he looks." He said.
She took the keys.
"Are you just kicking me out because you don't want a screaming baby to keep you up every night?"
          "You got me." He joked.
She playfully hit his arm and he laughed.
"You know that's not it. The house is right down the street...it's furnished and ready with everything you need. There's only one room you have to fill, but you have time. These are the only sets of keys, so no one else can get in."
          "I'll miss you." She laughed.
"Oh I'll be over for you to cook me dinner every night." He joked.
She laughed and shook her head. Charlotte started to grab her suitcases, but Alfie stopped her and picked them up himself.
"You don't need to be carrying these."
          "Alfie, I'm pregnant...not helpless."
He ignored her and they walked a few houses down, which happened to be next to Tommy's house. They walked in and Alfie helped her put her clothes away.
"Did you put me in this house on purpose?" She asked.
He smirked and shrugged his shoulders.
"When are you telling him?" He asked.
She took a deep breath.
"Now." She said as she walked to her door.
"Want me to go with you?"
"No, this is something I have to do alone. Thank you for everything you've done for me. I will cook you dinner tomorrow." She said and then kissed his cheek.
She locked her door and Alfie walked home. Charlotte stood in front of Tommy's door and took a long deep breath. Right as she went to knock, Tommy opened the door and there stood him and Grace all dressed up.
          "Charlotte?"
