Chapter 9

After that first day in my marriage with Prince Remington, I felt myself feeling more and more comfortable living with him in his castle and learning more about my role as a princess and as the wife of a ruler of his own kingdom. That first month was unforgettable as I explored more of my new home and learned something new about different things revolving a royal life. I even kept a personal journal about my days living in this new life, and it helped to remind me that nothing has been what I expected it to be. Some days seemed to be normal while others were unexpected in good or bad ways. The bad days would sometimes get the best of me, but I remember my mother would tell me that the good days outweigh the bad ones and it just helped me appreciate the good days more. There were days when Remington would invest some time to spend it with me which was always nice, and then there were days when he had his own duties as a prince but I was able to use the library to get lost in stories and understand new things I never knew about before. I guess you could say, I was starting to feel content.

One night, I decided to take a stroll through the castle gardens just to distract myself before I turned in for the night. Tonight felt like a beautiful night to appreciate everything around me as the flowers even seemed to be blooming under the moon. I was about to continue with my nightly stroll when I noticed a beautiful and freshly-blossomed flower just blooming high up on a tree. I tried reaching for it, but it apparently was too high for me, even when I tried jumping up to get it. After a few attempts, I tried jumping up for it once more only to feel my body get lifted off of the ground and carried bridal-style. I opened my eyes and felt my heart flutter in my chest to find Remington carrying me in his arms and smile at me as well as look into my eyes so admiringly, I caught my breath at the sight. "Need some help, my princess?", he asked with intrigue in his tone, I felt myself blush embarrassingly as I nodded and pointed up at the flower I was trying to reach for. He lifted me a bit higher so that I could grasp it and snap it from the branch it was stuck on.

Remington helped me back on my feet as I gazed at the beautiful plant I was holding, then I looked up at Remington who was smiling so sweetly at me. To his surprise, I decided to give him the flower as a token of appreciation for his help. He took it from my hands and smelled its sweet scent before looking back at me and commenting, "Very beautiful...and the flower aren't too bad-looking either." I turned away when he said that, trying to hide my smile when he called me beautiful though I knew it wasn't going to go away soon. "Well, I mean, you've been nothing but wonderful to me for about a month now. You should at least know that I couldn't ask for anything more and I think...", I paused wondering if I should tell him how I was really feeling. He begged, "You think what, Lulu?" I managed to look into his eyes and tell him with my heart beating fast like a hummingbird, "I think I'm starting to feel happy to be around you. Forgive me if...I've taken too long to realize that."

His smile dropped when I said that and his eyes widened in shock as if he wasn't expecting to hear me say something like that. It slightly scared me that I may have said something wrong, but all that faded away when he took my wrist and pulled me close to hug me tightly and securely. It made my heart stop as I felt his warmth radiating and just the feeling of his arms around me sent my head spinning. I heard him whisper in my ear, "I've been waiting to hear you say something like that to me. Your presence alone has been the light of my life and I cherish it with every fiber of my being. All I want is to be the one who makes you smile and the one who's capable of making even your worst days become the best ones. I'm so grateful to have you in my life, Lulu." My heart ached for him and I ended up wrapping my arms around him to embrace him back and I felt joy in hearing his heartbeat in my ear as we held each other in our arms.

We walked a little farther into the gardens until we stopped in an area I haven't explored before. We waited a moment before I noticed a tiny dot of light floating around me and I gasped as a hundred more lights starting flying around us and my breath was taken away by the fascinating sight. I glanced at Remington, "Are these-?", he nodded and answered my question before I could finish it, "Fireflies. I've always had a swarm of them living in these gardens since I've lived here and I sometimes come out at night to look at them. It's almost like you're living in the night sky and dancing with stars." His focus fell onto me as he gazed so intently into my eyes and placed one hand on the side of my waist and the other holding the side of my face. "If I may, my princess...", he whispered, never breaking his gaze on me, "I'd like to bestow a kiss upon your lips just once, if it's okay with you." He's actually asking if he can kiss me? It sounded unusual, but he must know by now all this was still pretty new to me and I've never experienced something like it.

Maybe it was the fact that my admiration for him was growing into something deeper or the beauty and breathtaking luminescence of our surroundings moved my soul, but whatever it was, I found myself nodding at his request and pacing my hands on his chest. He leaned in closer and slowly and softly, pressed his lips onto mine which made everything around me stop. What was it about this moment in which I felt like I could fly into the sky and everything feel like heaven? I relaxed into his touch as I kissed him back gently and wished that we could be closer. It only lasted for over a minute but as he pulled away to look into my eyes again, I had hoped that this feeling inside of me wasn't just temporary and it would lead to something very special like I had dreamed about since I was a naive child. "Remington?", I muttered, still dizzy from the kiss, "Yes Lulu?", he leaned his forehead against mine for comfort, "Can you do it again?" He grinned with glee before kissing my cheek before going back to kiss my lips.
