Chapter 33

The battle was soon won by Remington's group and whoever of Felix and his men survived were immediately placed under arrest. Those who were arrested were held back by the soldiers and had their wrists bound together with their weapons taken away. Remington held me close and was grateful to see I wasn't too terribly hurt except for a few scratches and cuts. As Remington held me close to him in his arms, I never felt such ecstasy and relief to be within his presence. The warmth of his body helped bring peace to my soul, and his soft and gentle kisses in my hair made me feel grateful to have him in my life and love me this much. I looked up at him and gazed his eyes and just as I predicted, they looked so soft and gentle looking back at me, and it made me love him more for being this caring with me, I could never be scared of him. I told him in a soft whisper, "You were all I could think about, and even though I was so frightened, I had hope that I would see you again." He grinned widely at my words and pressed his lips onto mine, I kissed back rejoicingly.

He pulled away as Felix was taken into custody and he stopped his guards from moving him along so he could confront him. That look of rage was back in his eyes, and I was curious what might happen next, as long as Remington wouldn't be harmed. He stood in front of Felix and asked him, "Felix, what made you think it was a sane idea to kidnap my wife just to threaten me and have me do your bidding? She had nothing to do with this and it could have gone so much less violent if you confronted me personally." Felix sneered as he replied with, "Oh, I'm well aware that the princess is insignificant when it comes between you and me. But I wanted to see you suffer as you would have lost everything precious and dear to you." Remington let out a prolonged breath before speaking again, "Felix, I never meant for you to lose everything you had, I just wanted you to learn that your actions had consequences. I can't ever be like you, so I should've expected you won't ever be like me."

Felix looked annoyed at Remington acting calm about the conflict, so he glanced at me standing behind Remington and smirked with evil intent before he turned back to Remington to tell him, "Well, you must be good enough to win the heart of your sweet princess. In fact, she was willing to do anything to make sure I wouldn't hurt you. And I mean, anything..." I gasped in shock he'd say that to Remington and I called out to Remington, "No, Remington! It's not what you think, please don't listen-" I didn't get to finish my statement as Remington slapped Felix hard across the face and was fuming as he exclaimed in a threatens tone, "I will not listen to a piece of trash like you spread lies about my wife. If this is your way to make me a monster like you, I know her better than you ever will. Unlike you, she's selfless and caring and has a stronger heart than anyone I know. She's more fit to be a ruler than you ever were." Remington motioned to his guards and commanded them, "Get this filth out of my sight and make sure he never sees daylight again."

I ran to stand in front of Remington and hold his face in my hands, the anger in his eyes melting away as soon as they met mine. I told him with pleading eyes, "Remington, I need you to understand. I was weak for a moment thinking he wouldn't hurt you if I did what he asked, but it never happened yet I regret being so pathetic and weak to submit like that." Remington held my face in his hands and pressed his lips on my forehead before saying to me, "My princess, whatever happened, you aren't weak or pathetic. My love for you is unconditional and will always be that way because you brought me back to life." His words brought so much relief to my heart and I smiled for the first time since we've been separated. Remington smiled back and was about to lean in to kiss me, but he glanced away for a second and something in his expression changed drastically and before I knew it, he pushed me out of his direction and I fell to the ground. When I lifted my head back up, I watched as Sir Maxima had her sword thrusted in Felix and she pulled it out as he collapsed dead.

I turned my head back to Remington and my heart shattered to see a dagger deep inside of Remington's torso as he was kneeling on the ground, watching me as there was pain in his eyes. "NO!!!", I screamed at the top of my lungs as I rushed over to Remington's side and held him in my arms as he struggled so hard to keep his eyes open and look into mine. I sobbed so hard, afraid that if I let him go, I'll lose him. Sir Maxima beseeched me, "Your Higness, we need to get him back to the castle as soon as possible! Please let us handle this!" I couldn't look at her, but knew that what she said was true since there was nothing I could do. Remington lifted his hand up to place it on my cheek and caress it with his thumb. With a weak smile, he whispered to me through the pain he was experiencing, "You saved my life, Lulu. I'll always love you for that..." With a heavy heart, I pressed my lips onto his and let the guards and knights take Remington from me as they placed him in a separate carriage where two of them stepped in to try to stop Remington's bleeding. I rode with Maxima as I wished for nothing more in this world than Remington's recovery.
