Chapter 20

A few months later, Remington informed me that his mother's birthday ball was approaching and he wanted me to attend the ball with him so that I can finally meet his family. I was honored that he wanted me to come with him and I know I should be excited to meet his family. But I was afraid they might not approve of me, or worse, realize I'm not really my sister and automatically cast me out for being an imposter. Remington could see I was a bit nervous and kissed my hands to reassure me, "You don't need to be nervous, my love. My family will love you, and if they don't, that's their loss because it won't stop me from loving you." That brought me some relief to know Remington's love for me would never change no matter what. Noticing that it would be a ball we would attend, I realized that I don't know how to properly dance for a fancy event such as that. Remington promised he would teach me before we would leave in a few days to attend his mother's birthday celebration.

He brought me down to the royal ballroom in the castle where the room was big enough for 100 people to stand in and dance as well. I was impressed at how beautiful it looked and the floor felt like it could make music just by dancing over it. Remington turned on an old phonograph and then music started to softly play as it filled the atmosphere in here. He walked back to demonstrate how I should dance properly with my partner. He instructed that I place my arm over his while he holds me with his hand holding me by the waist while at the same time, he holds one of my hands in his to be in the proper position. His hand holding me firmly by my waist almost stopped my breath, but I forced myself to concentrate as Remington started to move our feet and taught me how to follow his steps so we were perfectly synced with with rhythm of the music playing.

He started slow to make it easy for me, but as he began to quicken his steps and go different directions, I was afraid I'd lose track of him. But it turns out, I was able to keep up and he rewarded me by sweeping me off of my feet occasionally, sending my heart fluttering as his surprising moves made me smile in glee. He spun me around from time to time and even pulled me closer to him which I loved the most. When the song was about to finish, Remington twirled me around one more time and then dipped me low as I was being held up in his arms and looked up at him as he smiled lovingly into my eyes, our bodies almost pressed together that it was making my heart race. After over a minute, Remington helped me back on my feet as he held me close to him and held my face in his hand so I'd look him in eyes, "You're a natural, my princess. Why, you'd have any dancing partner falling at your feet with the way you dance so elegantly and gracefully, like a beautiful swan."

My eyes glistened at his words and I blushed embarrassingly before he chuckled with appreciation at my expression and then he softly pressed his lips onto mine, I kissed back while feeling happy that I was so loved by a wonderful person and gorgeous prince. Later that night, I stayed up a bit thinking about the ball that'll be in two days, and I decided I should practice a little more to be a better dancer for myself as well as for everyone who's in my company. I got out of bed quietly and quickly as I headed downstairs to where the ballroom was. I was only in my nightgown, but I was hoping it might make it easier to see my feet. For a couple of minutes, I closed my eyes concentrating as I danced by myself with an imaginary partner and only made one or two mistakes while doing so. Who knew there were so many rules to dancing? I became so lost in the moves I was trying to perfect, that I startled when I felt myself bump into someone and I opened my eyes to see Remington was standing in front of me, curious about what I was doing.

"Lulu?", he asked quietly so as to not make so much noise while it's still dark out. I replied just as quietly, "Yes, Remington?", he crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow at me, "Are you practicing your dancing out here in the middle of the night?" A bit embarrassed, I nodded to answer his question, "I was only wanting to get better at this so I can do it properly and not make a fool of myself or you. Are you upset?" His eyes widened at my question and he shook his head with a smile on his face, "No, Lulu. I think it's quite adorable. I admire how hard you're trying to be good at this. But it's usually natural for most people, especially", he pulled me closer in his arms as we were slightly pressed against each other, "When you're dancing with someone who makes you wish you could dance forever with them for they are your other half and soul mate." I lightly gasped at his actions as he took my arms and wrapped them around the back of his neck before holding me close with his hands on the small of my back.

Soon enough, he started moving his feet slower this time and held me securely as we danced in a circle. This felt much calmer than before, but with Remington this close to me, it was almost intimate. I looked up to find Remington gazing into my eyes and he looked so lovestruck with me, it nearly made my heart stop. I felt his hand lift up from my back and then he placed my head to rest on his chest, I could hear his heart beating steadily in my ear. I closed my eyes once more to savor this moment as we danced so closely and felt like we were dancing in heaven and gravity didn't apply to the both of us locked in each other's embrace and fiercely in love with the other. It was in that moment that I understood what Remington meant when he said that the perfect dance partner will make you wish this dance could last until the end of time.
