Potential Beyond Comprehension (Supplement to Spark and Ginger) - Post PA3

Here's the sparring match Mittens is referring to:

Surely at this point Coco had become well accustomed to being one of the most powerful magic users in all the school. Very few came close thanks to countless hours spent studying spells and learning to channel magic properly. At this point she was sure she was close to maxing out her full potential. Of course she wanted to make a show of abilities too, soundly defeating all who asked to spar against her.

There was one that had always interested her though, Ginger. If Ginger had caught the attention of Patches (who was somehow very powerful with magic), then surely Ginger had to be of even greater power. But not so great as to be better than Coco, of course. She couldn't fathom being weaker than a dog. Naturally, she had to know, so it was time to spar.

Coco and Ginger stroll through a lush forest. Ginger isn't so sure of where they are going, but hopefully it's out of everyone's way. "Coco, are you sure it's safe?" Ginger asks timidly.

"Of course it is, there's nothing around for miles, and the most that's ever happened is me destroying some trees because my power was too much for the other to handle" Coco proudly replies.

"The people you spar against don't die...right?"

"Nah, maybe a burn here or there, but nothing ever too serious. I hold back just enough to not do anything super horrific, but of course I show enough to defeat them. Like I said, worst it's ever gotten was a few trees as collateral damage." Such confidence in Coco's retelling of her perfect streak of victories.

They reach a large clearing. Certainly a great many number of sparing matches had taken place here before, since the trees closest to the clearing were clearly damaged.

"Oh my" Ginger says concernedly, upon seeing the physical damage.

"Don't worry" Coco says, her voice being so care free "I've sparred so many times before. I know how to hold back to nothing super bad happens."

The two take up positions opposite from each other. There's about 500 or so feet between them.

"Ok Ginger, get ready and all. I'll let you make the opening move" Coco shouts.

"Ohhhh..." Ginger groans. None of this makes sense at all. This is all just a waste of time. What's the point in sparring? She didn't want to do this, but at the same time she didn't want to make Coco sad.

"Hurry up, will ya!" Coco yells impatiently.

Still nothing. "Fine, I'll just end this quickly then" Coco says.

She takes her wand in one paw and extends her arm. The star at the end of the wand glows and shoots out a beam of energy. Ginger's eye widens as the beam flies towards her. She ducks just in time. The beam continues on and strikes a tree, causing a medium sized hole upon contact.

"Oh, come on! This isn't very fun, Ginger. Fight me already!" Coco shouts indignantly.

Ginger isn't so privy with the whole idea of fighting. She just shakes her head at Coco. She would love to ask for this to be all over, but at this point it feels a bit too late for that.

"Grrr..." Coco bars her teeth. So much for thinking Ginger was powerful. Turns out she's the most weak willed dog Coco has ever seen. Maybe it was all hype for nothing.

Coco grips her wand with both paws and closes her eyes to focus her thoughts for a second. In an instant she's teleported herself right up to Ginger's face.

"Eep" Ginger says weakly. She'd never seen a teleportation spell in action before.
"Pff" Coco scoffs right in Ginger's face. "Here I was, thinking that you were powerful. I guess that's all a lie. What's that saying again? 'All bark and no bite'?" Coco taunts as she smirks at Ginger.

Now she's done it. That's too far, insulting me for not wanting to fight. Ginger feels her frustration boiling over. "Fine, if that's what you want..." she whispers.

"Huh?" Coco says.

Ginger closes her eyes and takes a deep breath in to focus her emotions, channeling them in order to increase her power. Coco can sense something radiating from Ginger. She can only sense more and more...such immense power that far exceeds anything she had ever encountered before. A translucent purple aura starts to manifest itself around Ginger. Coco's eyes widen in fear. This is getting serious now. She teleports back to the other side of the clearing to buy herself some time to focus herself for a powerful magic blast; she'll need to use all she's got.

Ginger opens her eyes. They glow with an intense red. It's show time. She takes a step forward. The grass sizzles underneath her paw. She just slowly closes the gap between her and Coco.

"No way, no way! How could Ginger be this powerful!?" Coco thinks, staring at Ginger in awe.

"Get a grip on yourself Coco! She's never trained a day in her life and you've been doing it for years, just put all you've got into a focused blast and you'll be the winner like you've always been" she says to herself in a effort to quell her fear.

She lets out a gigantic blast. Everything that she's got went into it. There's a giant explosion. Coco shields her face from all the debris using her forearms. Such a massive blast it was. There's no way anything could remain standing after all that...yet...her greatest fear has now come true. Ginger is completely untouched, just slowly approaching Coco. Just how powerful is Ginger? How was this even possible!!

There's nothing to do but stare and tremble at the sight of such power. Ginger now stands about an arm's length from Coco's face. Coco has no idea what's going to happen. Was Ginger going to erase her from all of existence? It's impossible to fathom what Ginger is even capable of at this point. The glow of her eye that wasn't obstructed by hair is so intense, so powerful. Coco only realizes now that Ginger isn't even using a wand. This is unheard of! A user so powerful they don't even need a wand in order to utilize their magic.

She raises her paw right up to Coco's face. A paw surrounded by that translucent purple aura. Oh no...there's now way anything would survive if hit directly with a blast. Ginger doesn't do that though. Instead she just flicks her paw at Coco's face. This sends her flying through several trees. Luckily magic greatly increases your body's durability, but make no mistake this will hurt for at least a month.

With Coco soundly defeated, Ginger lets out a deep breath and returns to her normal state. She rushes over to Coco, who groans from the pain.

"Y-you win" she utters. Such a hard thing that was to utter, in the face of the physical pain and the blow this had dealt to her ego.

Later that day...the front door flies open and slams against the brick wall. Angel puts his book just under his line of sight. His eyes concernedly focus on Coco. She's clearly agitated. All riled up, the state of her clothes and her body language make that clear. It was no surprise that such a proud cat would be this mad after losing to a dog in a spar. Her ego was as bruised as her body.

She doesn't say a word; her forceful treatment of the objects around her say enough. Angel's eyes look on, worried because here she was., doing that thing she always did when she was mad. Taking it out on everything around her without a word to explain or of apology. Suddenly, she glares at Angel. "What are you looking at?" she asks angrily.

Angel's eyes shy away. He focuses on the carpet next to his sitting chair and then finally raises the book up to cover his face. Coco scoffs and noisily makes her way upstairs and slams the bedroom door. A dead silence sets in on the living room. Angel lets out a tired sigh. There she was, being how she used to be, even after all of this. Things seemingly hadn't changed, even though everyone said that they would.
