26. The Saloon

Micah sighed as he watched Ashley strolling through camp. He knew that he acted like a damn fool yesterday and that he had crossed the boundaries that they had set, he knew that he needed to get her alone whether it was to apologise in someway or to just put them both back on the right track. The outlaw placed his hat on his head before walking over to Ashley, when he saw that she was alone.

"You okay?" Micah asked, stopping once he was standing a few feet away from her.

"You drunk?" Ashley asked, not even bothering to look at him.

"...no?" he furrowed his brow.

"Then, yes, I am okay" she sighed, smiling slightly as she turned to face the man.

"Does it bother you when I'm drunk?" Micah asked, confused since she had never been bothered by him being drunk before. In fact they tended to get along better than ever when they were drunk.

"No, it bothers me when you try to feel me up in the middle of camp" Ashley rolled her eyes, her smile falling from her face when she found herself having to explain the problem.

"It won't happen again" he assured her and she could see that he was being sincere, as annoying as it was.

"I don't believe you at all...but you are forgiven even if you didn't apologise" she rolled her eyes again, she knew that he had been sincere but she was positive that it would happen again.

"Okay, good" Micah clapped while Ashley just rolled her eyes at him, she was pretty sure that this man was far too prideful to apologise for something. "I've got to pick something up in Rhodes, I've told Dutch that we are going on a job, meet me in the saloon" he ordered before he turned around and began to walk away.

"What are you picking up?" Ashley asked as she moved to catch up with him, she hated not knowing what he had planned. Micah could be unpredictable so it was good to at least know the basics of the job.

"Doesn't matter" he shrugged, smirking to himself when he heard Ashley groan in frustration. She just sighed before turning around and walking over to the horses.

Ashley mounted Robin before riding out of the camp, she took her time as she made her way into Rhodes. Once she got there, she hitched her horse outside of the saloon and walked in. She had no idea how long Micah would take to get here, so she got herself a beer and sat at one of the tables near the back, out of the way.

It wasn't too long, maybe just under an hour, before Micah walked into the saloon. Ashley remained at the table as she watched him walk up to the bar and speak to the bartender, she assumed that he was just buying a drink before joining her. Micah grabbed the two bottles of beer that he ordered before wandering over to Ashley at the back table, he placed one bottle on the table in front of her as he sat down opposite her.

"Cowpoke has a lot to say, doesn't he?" Micah asked as he sat down, obvious irritation in his voice.

"Hello to you too, Micah" Ashley rolled her eyes, he wasn't always the easiest man to speak too.

"You're right, that was rude of me. Hello, Ashley. Cowpoke has a lot to say, doesn't he?" he responded sarcastically before repeating the question.

"Alright, I'll bite. What did he do now?" the dark haired woman asked, leaning forward on the table.

"Says I'm harassing you" Micah muttered angrily to himself, taking a sip from the bottle in his hand.

"You were harassing me" Ashley teased but only earned a glare from the man sitting in front of her. "Micah, just ignore him. He is just trying to help" she sighed as she gave advice that she knew he wouldn't listen to.

"He ain't helping anyone" he grumbled before taking another sip of his beer.

"Arthur is a good man. Just try to get along with him, he's a friend...he's family" she shrugged. Of course Ashley liked Arthur, they were good friends, and she would like for Micah to actually get along with a few people she thought of as friends. It might make everything a little easier.

"Yeah, Arthur is so fucking great" Micah scoffed, rolling his eyes. He hated that everyone thought so highly of Arthur, no, he hated that Ashley thought so highly of Arthur. Even Micah knew that Arthur wasn't a bad man, Ashley was right in saying that Arthur is a good man, but that didn't mean that Micah had to admit it.

"Are you jealous of Arthur?" Ashley asked, a small smirk creeping it's way onto her lips. She knew that she shouldn't be happy about Micah being jealous of Arthur but she couldn't help the fluttering feeling in her chest at the realisation.

"No. I am not jealous of Arthur Morgan" he scoffed, refusing to even entertain the idea.

"You seem jealous...but if it doesn't bother, I guess I can talk about him then. Did I ever tell you about the time Arthur got stabbed when we were on a job together?" Ashley asked, smirking to herself as a little plan formed in her head.

"Of course you haven't, we've never really talked like that" Micah pointed out with a roll of his eyes.

"Yeah...I guess we haven't" she hummed, frowning slightly as the plan to make Micah jealous quickly left her mind.

"What happened to your mother?" Micah asked, leaning back in his chair, not taking his eyes off of her now.

"What?" Ashley asked, her eyes widening slightly in shock at his question.

"You told me that your father died and that your knife belonged to your mother, you never told me what happened to her" he shrugged. Even Micah himself wasn't sure why, but he wanted to know more about the woman sitting in front of him.

"She died...while giving birth to me. She was a strong woman, my father always told me stories about her. My mother faced a lot of things, survived a lot of things. In the end, the thing that killed her was me" she answered with a small sigh, staring down at the table, fiddling with the bottle in her hands.

"That wasn't your fault, you know that...right?" Micah asked, leaning forward on the table and raising his eyebrows at her.

"Yeah of course...I loved my father and my father loved me...but sometimes, when he missed her I could see it in his eyes. He blamed me...and I couldn't blame him for that" she shook her head softly, still keeping her eyes fixed on the table.

"Why are you telling me this?" the blonde outlaw asked, leaning back in his chair again.

"What?...because you asked?" Ashley furrowed her brow as she looked up at him again.

"If somebody else asked...if Bill asked...would you tell him that?" he asked, raising an eye brow at her.

"Well...no" she admitted, still not understanding the question completely.

"I am not the type of person you should speak about this to, so why are you telling me this?" he asked, rephrasing the question as if that would help he understand.

"I-I thought you cared...never-mind" Ashley sighed, feeling stupid for having been so open with him about her childhood.

"No, that's not what I meant" Micah sighed, silently cursing himself for being so bad with words. "Why the hell do you trust me?" he rephrased the question he was trying to ask again.

"Oh...well, if I knew the answer to that, Mr Bell, I would tell you" she laughed, honestly not knowing why she trusted the dirty outlaw sitting in front of her. "So, what about your family?" she asked, genuinely curious about his upbringing.

"That's...a question for another day" Micah shook his head, avoiding meeting Ashley's gaze as he finished his drink. Ashley just nodded, sipping from her own drink, she was pretty sure that day would never come. Micah Bell obviously wasn't somebody who opened up to people, she didn't know what she expected when he asked in the first place.

"So...did you pick up whatever it was you were talking about?" Ashley asked, returning their attention to the whole reason they were in Rhodes in the first place.

"Ah, no. We have to wait until morning, but don't worry I've booked us a room" Micah explained, pulling a room key out of his pocket and hold it up for her to see as he stood up.

"Can't we just go back to camp, it's not that far" the woman asked, quickly finishing her drink before standing up with him.

"We could, but I got us a room" Micah repeated, looking down at her with an expression that said 'take the god damn hint'.

"Oh..." Ashley's eyes widened and her cheeks turned a light shade of pink when she realised the implications behind his words.

"Seriously, girl, I thought you were clever" Micah laughed as he threw his arm around her shoulders and began walking towards the rooms. Ashley just sulked, making him laugh again as he pulled her into him, causing her to laugh along with him.
