Chapter 1

From the very first time you are introduced to the concept of a multiverse, or alternate realities/timelines, it is a rather easy concept to grasp. We can think of it in big ways, like there being a universe, similar to our own, where the Nazi's won WWII, or one where Kennedy was never assassinated, or maybe even one where Disney didn't fuck up the new Star Wars films. However, multiverses can also be thought of in very small ways. In fact, with the general theory, that there are infinite amounts of universes, with infinite possibilities, that would mean that there is a different universe for every single different thing that each of us decide to do in a day. For instance, there is likely a different universe out there, where you and your doppelganger are living the exact same life, and have made all of the same life choices, but you decided to wear a red shirt today, instead of a blue one. Then equally, there is likely a universe out there where your life is totally different from your doppelgangers, perhaps because you have completely different careers, or your gender or sexuality is different. The multiverse has truly infinite possibilities, and an infinite amount of stories that can be told.

That is why on Earth-623, things are largely the same as we know them to be on Earth-38, which later becomes Earth-Prime. However, in regards to the story of Supergirl/Kara Danvers and Lena Luthor, on Earth-623, there is a small difference that completely changes their story, and the story around them. This difference, for some, might seem like a small one, but for a few people, this difference has drastically altered their lives, none more so than Lena Luthor herself.

*******************

It is now late 2016, and Lena Luthor recently purchased a ticket to be abord the Venture spacecraft test flight. However, after there was an explosion, that caused the flight to fail, and both Supergirl and Superman had to save it, Lena Luthor was found to be the only one not aboard the flight at the time. So, with this knowledge, and the fact that Lena Luthor is the sister of known former Luthor Corp CEO, turned Superman hating terrorist, suspicions immediately jumped to the possibility of Lena Luthor's involvement in the Venture explosion. So, Clark Kent decides to pay Lena Luthor a visit at L-Corp, along with his cousin, Kara Danvers, to see if Lena Luthor does have any involvement in this matter by asking her a few questions. Then, at the same time, he and Kara plan to use their super vision to just have a quick check of Lena's office, to see if she's hiding anything.

Kara and Clark are now walking into Lena Luthor's office, following Lena.

"There is a perfectly good reason as to why I was not aboard the Venture yesterday." Lena says.

"Well, that's why we are here." Clark says, trying to convey a friendly tone.

"There was an emergency that I had to attend to." Lena replies.

"What sort of emergency. Do you care to give specifics?" Clark questions.

"No. Not particularly. It was a private matter." Lena says back, now taking a seat at her desk.

"That doesn't really help prove your innocence." Clark says.

Lena's assistant now finishes organising a few things on the CEO's desk, before leaving the office, meaning Kara, Lena and Clark are the only ones in there right now.

"I am no terrorist, Mr Kent." Lena says, "I am not my brother. And frankly, I don't see what the logic would be of me buying a ticket on this flight, to then blow it up. That would easily make me a prime suspect, if I was the only survivor, having not gone on the flight, if Superman had not been there to save the day."

"Supergirl was there too!" Kara says, speaking up now.

Lena now finally turns her gaze to look at Kara for the first time, green eyes meet blue.

"And who are you exactly?" Lena asks.

"I'm uhhh..... Kara..... Kara Danvers." Kara says, fiddling with her glasses, nervously, "I'm with CatCo."

"That's a publication not known for its hard-hitting journalism. It's more like, high wasted jeans, yes or no?" Lena replies.

"I..... I'm just tagging along today." Kara replies, nervously.

"Can we just get to the point. You want to know if I had any involvement in the Venture explosion?" Lena says.

"Did you?" Clark asks.

Lena then opens her mouth to reply, but before she can say anything, the group all hear a noise coming from another door inside Lena's office. A door which seems must lead to some sort of private bathroom or something connected to Lena's office. Kara and Clark both turn to look at the door after hearing this sound.

"What was......" Kara begins.

"Nothing." Lena says, quickly, "Probably just some workers. We've only just moved into these offices after all. They are not all completely finished."

Clark and Kara both now glance at each other with suspicious looks on their faces.

"But...... in response to your question..... I didn't have any involvement in the Venture explosion. Like I mentioned earlier I am not my brother I....." Lena begins, but is once more interrupted by another sound coming from that door.

This time, upon hearing that sound, Clark turns around, and walks towards the door. Once Clark does this, Lena quickly jumps up from her desk.

"Get away from there!" Lena calls out quickly, trying to run over to Clark, but not being able to get to the door before him, seeing as she's in heels.

Kara, for her part, is just standing there right now, not knowing what to do, while Clark is now very suspicious of Lena Luthor, and needs to see what's behind this door. So, Clark reaches out for the handle.

"STOP!" Lena yells.

Clark opens the door, and instead of revealing what he was expecting, some sort of proof of a sinister plan of Lena Luthor's, and evidence she was involved in the Venture explosion. Instead, Clark sees that the room is not a bathroom, but a room that looks to be a playroom, that has a girl who can't be more than 3-years-old sitting in the middle of it, playing with some toys, which have been thrown about the room. Including some toys right by the door. Clark figures the sound must have been the child throwing the toys at the door.

"Who are you?" The little girl says to Clark, with a worried look on her face.

Before Clark can say anything, Lena quickly rushes past him, and moves towards the young girl.

"Lori, I'm here. These are just friends of mommy's." Lena says, moving towards the young girl, and picking her up into her arms.

"Oh, okay." Lori replies, with a nod of her head.

Kara has now joined Clark and is standing next to him, looking on at Lena holding this young girl, who is clearly Lena Luthor's daughter. The girl might be young, but even from a glance, it's very clear that Lena is the girl's mother. They have the same hair, eyes, and even a lot of the same facial features.

"Oooooo..... You're pretty." Lori says, now looking at Kara for the first time.

Kara blushes after hearing Lori say this, and grows a big smile on her face.

"Thank you." Kara says, "I think you are very pretty too."

Lori giggles happily at Kara saying this.

"Okay, Lori." Lena says, "I just need to continue talking with my friends for a few moments. Will you be okay playing in here by yourself for a little while longer?"

"Yes. Okay." Lori replies.

"Okay." Lena repeats back to her daughter, and places her on the ground.

Lena then walks out of the room, and closes the door behind her.

"I don't..... understand...." Clark says.

Lena now turns to look at Clark, with an angry glare on her face.

"You had no right to do that." Lena says, almost with a growl in her voice, "I could have you thrown out of here, and a lawsuit filed against you for trespassing like that."

"Miss Luthor, I'm really sorry that that happened." Kara says, quickly speaking up for her cousin, "I apologise for Clark's actions."

"Hmmm." Lena hums, not in a positive or negative way, "Well, anyway, I guess I need to be clear with you both. She, right there, is my daughter, Loretta Luthor. I gave birth to her 3 years ago in secret, and since then I have taken great strides to make sure her existence stays a secret, as she deserves to have a normal life, and not be in a spotlight like I am. So, with that in mind, if either of you decide to report on the fact that I have a daughter, I am not my brother, but if someone messes with my daughter, and her potential safety, I very much could become him, and destroy both of you."

"Of course we will not tell anyone about this, Miss Luthor." Kara quickly says, "We did not come here to find out information on your personal life, and certainly not to dig up information that you have a daughter. Right, Clark?"

"I uhh..... yes." Clark says, "I.... I may have my suspicious about you, Miss Luthor, but I certainly would never bring a child into this, and expose her like that. Not for you, for her."

"Hmmm.... I guess I appreciate your honesty, Mr Kent, even though you surely think I am just like my brother." Lena replies.

"I'm all too familiar with your brother to hopelessly believe otherwise. He's made me wary of the Luthor name in general." Clark admits.

Lena huffs at Clark saying that.

"My name wasn't always Luthor. I was adopted when I was 4-years-old. The person who made me feel most welcome in the family was Lex. He made me feel proud to be a Luthor. But then he went on his reign of terror against Superman, and did unspeakable things, and well.... I think you understand the rest." Lena says.

"Maybe." Clark replies, but still in a suspicious tone.

Lena sighs.

"Well, perhaps this will change your mind about me." Lena says, and walks over to the other side of the room, and retrieves a thumb drive, "You are here because a subsidiary of my company made the part that failed. Here is all the information on the oscillator."

"Thank you." Clark says, as he takes the thumb drive from Lena.

"Give me a chance, Mr Kent. I came here for a fresh start, let me have one." Lena says.

"Good day, Miss Luthor." Clark says.

"Yes uhh.... good day." Kara replies, awkwardly.

Kara and Clark then make their way out of Lena's office, and Luthor Corp, which is soon to be renamed L-Corp.

"I know I'm new at this, but I believed her. I want to trust that she had nothing to do with the venture explosion." Kara says to Clark, as they walk along the street, away from the Luthor Corp offices.

"I've learnt the hard way not to trust a Luthor." Clark says, "But perhaps this thumb drive will shed some more light on the situation."

"Hopefully it will." Kara nods.

*****************

It is now a few hours later, and Lena is just about to get a helicopter at the top of Luthor Corp to head to a business meeting across the city, which will hopefully help get L-Corp more of a foothold here in National City. Lori is not currently with Lena, and is being looked after by Jess, who will be staying with her daughter in her office. Of course, Lena would not just trust anyone with her daughter, and the fact is, Lori isn't that fond of strangers either. However, Jess was not a new hire by Lena, she has actually been working as her assistant for the last year, which has mostly just involved managing her personal life, and maybe a few business ventures here and there. Due to this, Jess was introduced to Lori, after having to sign some NDA papers, and while at first Lori wanted absolutely nothing to do with Jess, and ran away and hid behind Lena's legs most of the time, after about 3 months, Lori became much more comfortable with Jess. Now, it is at the point where Lori is okay being watched by Jess for a little while, even if she still doesn't really speak to her, and keeps her distance. Lena is just glad that Jess actually agreed to move across the country with her, to National City, to take the job as her assistant. However, Lena is very much aware that Jess is not a babysitter, so she knows that she can't abuse Jess like this, and have her watch Lori all the time. That is why Lena has told Jess that she doesn't have to play with her daughter or anything, not that Lori would even play with her, and can just watch her while doing work from Lena's desk. Lena doesn't aim to be gone from her office too long anyway, that is one of the reasons she is taking a helicopter, instead of just being driven across the city. This way will cut a good 45 minutes off her travel plan.

"Hello Miss Luthor, this should be a quick and smooth flight." The pilot says, as Lena takes her seat next to him.

"I hate flying. I know, statistically it's the safest way to travel, but still." Lena says.

The helicopter then takes off, and suddenly Lena and the pilot both see a large drone flying towards them, a drone with guns. The guns then fire at the helicopter, but before it can hit them, Supergirl and Superman appear in front of the helicopter.

"Hmmm.... I thought you might show up." A voice says from the drone that was firing at the helicopter, "That is why I have rigged drones to explode all around the city. Your choice, save the chopper, or everyone else."

Superman and Supergirl then look at each other with worried looks on their faces.

"Go. I've got the chopper." Supergirl says.

Lena then watches as Superman flies away, clearly to protect everyone else in National City that the drones are threatening. Once this happens, Supergirl begins to do battle with the drone, which flies about, avoiding her. Throughout this battle though, the drone fires at the helicopter, causing the pilot to have to jerk the helicopter suddenly to try and avoid the bullets. In doing this, the pilot hits his head on the side door, and knocks himself unconscious. In a panic, Lena grabs the flight control stick, and tries to guide the helicopter, despite not knowing what she is doing. Luckily though, in this moment Supergirl destroys the drone, and then guides the helicopter back down to the ground, before opening the helicopter side door, and checking the pilot's pulse.

"What is going on?" Lena asks Supergirl, in a panic.

"You were not responsible for what happened to the Venture aircraft, you were the target. The bomb was positioned right under the seat that you were supposed to be sitting in. We know the assassin responsible for this was John Corben." Supergirl explains.

"A... assassin?" Lena asks, shocked.

"Yes." Supergirl nods, "We believe that the assassin was hired by..."

"My brother." Lena says, finishing Supergirl's sentence.

"Yes." Supergirl nods.

Lena always knew that this was a possibility, after she testified against Lex in his trial, that sent him away to prison for life. So, Lena knew that Lex would one day seek revenge against her, and that is one of the main reasons why Lena has hidden Lori's existence from the world.

********************

It is now the following day, and Lena is planning to go ahead with her renaming ceremony, despite the fact she knows that Lex is likely going to order his assassin to make another attempt on her life at the renaming ceremony. In fact, Lena thinks that maybe the reason that Lex is trying to kill her right now is simply the fact that he's angered by her renaming Luthor Corp to L-Corp. However, that is not going to stop Lena. Lena wants to do this, and she never wants to back down when being threatened, especially by her brother. Lori is safe, in L-Corp, with Jess, so she knows that her daughter will not be in any harms way, and as for herself, Lena is well aware that Supergirl and Superman are likely going to be there to save the day, if anything does occur, so she is confident with two Kryptonians, she will be more than safe. That, however, has done nothing to dissuade sort-of-reporter, Kara Danvers, from trying to get her to cancel the renaming ceremony.

"You know, you are really risking your life going ahead with this renaming ceremony." Kara says, as she and Lena walk towards the podium.

"I have to do this. I cannot let threats, from my brother, make me back down. If I do that, then all he'll do is call off his assassin, and wait until I rename the company again, and then try and kill me once more." Lena explains, "I'm not backing down, Miss Danvers."

Before Kara can say anything else to Lena, Lena walks up onto the stage. Admittedly, Kara is kind of impressed by Lena. She is kind of in awe at how brave Lena is being right now, and how she isn't going to back down, despite everything, and despite the fact she is in real danger. Kara is truly impressed. Kara just hopes that nothing does happen at this renaming ceremony.

Once Lena gets on stage, she begins making a speech, talking about how she is renaming Luthor Corp to L-Corp, to give the company a fresh start, and show the world it's going to be different, and under new management. However, before Lena can say anything further, there is an explosion behind Lena, which causes people to panic and scream. Lena, for her part, rushes off stage, and the next thing she notices, Superman and Supergirl are both holding up the L-Corp building, which is in danger of falling due to the explosion. It is in this moment in Lena's life that she is more terrified than she has ever been, as Lori is in there, her daughter.

"NO!!!!!!!!!!!!" Lena screams.

Lena watches on, in horror, as Superman now holds up the building on his own, and Supergirl flies elsewhere, obviously to try something to stabilise the building. Meanwhile, people rush by her in panic all around her. Suddenly though, Lena is grabbed from behind.

"You really have made me work for this." John Corben now says, pointing a gun at Lena.

Lena freezes as the gun is pointed at her, but just as suddenly, a woman, with red hair, dressed in black, begins to attack Corben, causing the assassin to drop his gun to the ground.

Lena then proceeds to watch as Corben and this woman fight one another, although eventually Corben gets the upper hand, but just as he does, Lena has picked up his gun and shoots Corben, two times in the chest, causing him to fall to the ground.

"Thank you." The red head woman says, catching her breath, before then giving aid to John Corben.

Lena then proceeds to take the ammo out of the gun, and put it down on the ground, not wanting this woman, who clearly is some sort of agent of some kind, or any other agents, to think she is a threat with a gun, and then shoot her. Lena has literally just survived yet another attempt on her life, she doesn't need to risk anything else.

Once Lena does this she quickly turns back around to look at her building, and thankfully by this point it looks like Superman and Supergirl have got the building stabilised again. So, Lena then quickly just runs towards her building, wanting to get to her daughter as soon as she possibly can.

It only takes Lena about 5 minutes to work through all the people and find Lori and Jess still in her office, with Lori cuddled up in a ball on the couch, fast asleep, and Jess sitting next to her, but at a respectable distance, likely because Lori doesn't like Jess being too close to her, as she is still a little scared of her.

"Miss Luthor." Jess says, standing up as she notices Lena walk into the office, "Are you okay?"

"Yes. Is Lori alright?" Lena asks, with a panicked sound to her voice.

"Yes. She slept through it all." Jess says, "I was in contact with security when the explosion hit the building. He told me to stay here, because Superman and Supergirl were securing the building, and if a lot of us moved we might destabilise the building more."

"Yes. Okay. Thank you, Jess. I know being in here must have been scary. And I certainly know I do not pay you enough for all this." Lena says.

"It's alright, Miss Luthor." Jess says, "You already pay me a very generous salary, and none of this is your fault, even if you were the target. You are going to do good work here with L-Corp, I know it. I am proud to be working here with you."

"Thank you, Jess." Lena says, with a small smile, "That really means a lot. But don't think this will stop me from giving you a big bonus at the end of this year."

Jess chuckles at Lena saying that.

"I doubt I could stop you even if I tried." Jess smiles.

"Mommy?" Lori soon says, waking up, before Jess and Lena can say anything else to each other.

"Yes, darling. I'm here." Lena says, as she approaches her daughter, and takes a seat on the couch next to her.

Jess, for her part, decides that this is her moment to leave Lena and Lori alone, and give the two of them some much deserved privacy. Plus, Jess knows that Lori will remain a bit uncomfortable with her staying there.

"Mommy.... did you do the naming ceremony?" Lori asks, as she rubs her eyes.

"Yes, darling. I did." Lena says.

Lori now moves to a sitting position on the chair, and crawls into Lena's side, causing Lena to take Lori in for a hug.

"Can we go home now?" Lori asks, as she continues to hug Lena.

"Yes, my darling. I think we've had enough excitement for one day." Lena says, as she holds her pride and joy tightly, thinking about just how bad today could have gone for her. It would suck if she were to die, but what would be worse for Lena, is if something had happened to Lori. If that happened, Lena would not want to continue living. Lori is Lena's everything.
