Chapter 15

Hey, guys! Hope you enjoy this chapter and happy reading!

The city lights faded as Eret flew into the darkness of the Arendelle forest. In the distance, he could see the familiar orange glow of a fire.

He swooped along the wagons. Everyone looked to be asleep. Eret kept flying until he saw an ominous looking black wagon, the largest and most elaborate out of all of them.

Eret took a deep breath and gathered up his courage, hating to be the one to have to break the bad news. His master wasn't exactly a "forgive and forget" person. No matter what, this wasn't going to end well.

With one last word of encouragement from himself, he flew into the open window of the black wagon.

..~..

A lone candle glowed in the dark wagon. Eret, frightened for what was deep inside the wagon, stayed on the window sill.

"Um...Kozmotis?" Eret said tentatively into the darkness. "It's, uh...me. Eret."

There was no response and no sign of movement signaling Eret to hightail it out of there. He sighed in relief.

"Phew! Not home," he said.

Then out of nowhere, Kozmotis' face suddenly appeared in front of Eret from the bed below the window he hadn't noticed before. Kozmotis' eyes were still a fiery yellow and his face still sent chills down Eret's back.

"What is it?!" he shouted. "Can't you see I was trying to sleep?!"

Eret screamed. He put his wing to his chest. "Don't do that! You know how I feel about jump scares! Here, feel my heart. Go ahead. I could have died right then and there."

Kozmotis rolled his eyes. "What do you want, you little rat-with-wings?" He rose from his bed and poured himself a glass of vodka.

"Name calling! That's real mature," Eret muttered. He yelped as Kozmotis grabbed him by the throat.

"I gave you that tongue and I can rip it out!" Kozmotis growled. His eyes lit up. "Why don't we try now?"

"No!" Eret said, his breath getting sucked from him. "I really like my tongue. You could say that we're very attached. I promise I won't say that ever again! Just let me go!"

Kozmotis released him. Eret gasped for air. This wasn't turning out well. If Kozmotis could get mad about this, imagine how mad he'll be when he told him...

"Why are you here, Eret?" Kozmotis asked, looking at him suspiciously. "I thought you always went out at night to catch your dinner, and, what did you call it? Oh, yes. 'Explore the world'."

"Okay, okay," Eret said. "I'll tell you. Just promise you won't get angry."

"Would I ever be angry with you, Eret?" Kozmotis said, his back to him.

"I'd beg to differ," Eret said to himself, softer this time so his tongue could still be attached to him. "Okay, so, I'm in Forkjølelse and I stop by the old palace. You know, for old time's sake."

Kozmotis rummaged around for a full bottle of vodka, tossing the empty ones out. Eret cringed when he could hear the glass shattering.

"So, I'm cruising around the rafters just enjoying the view and maybe eating a spare bug in between because every bat knows how good bugs that live in abandoned places are. You know, I wish there were more abandoned places in Arendelle because do you know how much time I'll save by just flying into a building and getting all the best grub I can ge-"

"Get to the point sometime tonight, Eret," Kozmotis growled. "I don't have time for your little adventure stories."

Eret gulped. "Okay, you're not going to like this. At all. But...well...it looks like Elisabeth is...still alive." He tensed, waiting for Kozmotis' explosion. But, to his shock, Kozmotis laughed.

"Impossible," Kozmotis chuckled. "That rumor's been around for years. Haven't I told you before to not believe everything you hear, Eret?"

"Trust me, it's her!" Eret said. "Why would I want to trick you?"

And risk getting my head cut off? he thought to himself.

Kozmotis' eyes narrowed. "How do you know?"

"How do I know?" Eret said, tapping his head. "Rodent's intuition. She looks exactly like her. Except she's taller, which is natural. Of course, my second cousin Dagur- he never grew. Looks like a little pepper shaker. He was so cute until he had to-"

Kozmotis began a slow growl that was beginning to build.

"Oh no," Eret gulped. "I knew this was going to upset you!"

Kozmotis howled in anger and smashed his glass against the wall. He moved towards the cabinet, knocking over furniture. He flung open the cabinet and Eret could see the reliquary, glowing gently as if it were sleeping. Eret covered his eyes in fear. He noticed though, that even Kozmotis himself looked a bit nervous in front of it.

"Source of my power," Kozmotis said to reverently to the reliquary. "Owner of my soul. I need your help."

He took the reliquary out of the cabinet and set it on the table.

"Kozmotis, she's just a kid," Eret said. "And she's going to Corona out of sight, out of mind, out of Arendelle."

"I cursed them all!" Kozmotis yelled.

"Yeah, I know that. I was there," Eret said. "But maybe this curse wasn't just cut out for the job."

Kozmotis pulled out a set of dolls. The first doll bore an eerie resemblance to Agdar. The second looked like Idun. And the next one looked exactly like Elisabeth.

"Hey, what about Annalise? And the old aunt, Primrose?" Eret said, pointing to the smallest doll and another big doll. "Shouldn't we worry about them too?"

"I don't need to worry about them," Kozmotis sneered. "Annalise is only a girl of fifteen, weak and pathetic. And Primrose has her own country to run. There's no way she can try to take and rule Arendelle as well.

"But Elisabeth," Kozmotis said, his eyes darkening, "now she's a problem. After her blasted father, Agdar, she's next in line for the throne, starting the Arendelle bloodline again...

"That family tried to kill me, so I returned the favor and actually killed them," Kozmotis smiled darkly. "I swore to destroy all of them.

"But," he said, staring at the reliquary, "if she lives, if she should have a child someday, the Arendelle family continues. And I won't let that happen."

He crushed the Elisabeth doll in his hand. "This is the end of the line."

"You know," Eret began to interject, "maybe we should just leave her alone. I mean, the girl doesn't even remember her own name. How much more do you think-"

As he was talking, he landed on the table and his wing accidentally knocked the reliquary on its side, causing it to roll.

"You idiot!" Kozmotis shouted at Eret. He made a leap for the reliquary, grabbing it before it shattered to the floor. Kozmotis breathed a sigh of relief and held the reliquary up. The smoky spirits inside swirled around, moaning.

"Yes, you'd all like to get out, wouldn't you?" Kozmotis said to the spirits. "I must apologize though, because there can only be one at a time and only when I call."

Kozmotis spun on Eret, who had been slinking away, and slammed a goblet over him.

"Do you have any idea what would happen if that broke?!" Kozmotis screamed at Eret.

From under the glass, Kozmotis looked distorted and even more horrifying. Eret gulped. "I don't know...chaos?"

Waving the reliquary, Kozmotis spoke, "These are evil, powerful beings. I have their power only if I contain them, control them. If they should all be released at once...well..."

Kozmotis smiled with his shockingly white teeth. He lifted the glass to whisper to Eret.

"You don't want to be around when that happens," Kozmotis chuckled darkly. He slammed the goblet back down and focused his attention back on the reliquary.

"Where is she?" Kozmotis asked the reliquary. "Where is Princess Elisabeth?"

Inside the reliquary, the smoke began to glow. Suddenly, the smoke exploded in a burst and formed into the smoke of a train engine. As the reliquary picture broadened, he could see a train and Elsa, Jack, and North all hurrying to catch it.

"It looks like our little lost princess has friends," Kozmotis said. "No matter, we'll get rid of them too."

Inside the glass, Eret was desperate. He tried to topple over the glass prism by jumping up but instead hit his head.

"Ouch," Eret moaned. "That's gonna leave a mark in the morning.

"Hey, uh, Kozmotis?" Eret called out to his master. "I've got really terrible claustrophobia. That's why I could never live in a cave. Could you please let me out?"

But Kozmotis wasn't listening. His full attention was solely on the reliquary.

"Finish my prophecy," Kozmotis said.

Smoke began to pour out of the reliquary. Kozmotis, almost giddy with the thought of finishing his ambition, laughed hysterically.

"Oh, I hate when he does this!" Eret groaned.

As Kozmotis swirled his arm, the smoke began to form into minions. All of them look human at first, but upon closer inspection, the first one had the body of a human and the head of a jackal, the second one had the face of a woman and the claws of a tiger, and the last minion, the most horrible of them all, had a huge bear-like body with the head of a vulture. All of them wore long capes with hoods.

"She is not going to get off that train alive!" Kozmotis said.

He kicked open the wagon door and leaped outside. The minions, still filling out into forms, followed him. One of them, with a wisp-like tail, swished by and knocked over Eret's glass prism, freeing him.

Kozmotis released his black horses who stomp and whinny. Two minions floated onto them while one flew ahead of them.

"Go!" Kozmotis yelled into the dark of the night. "I don't care what you do with the others but finish the girl! Kill her!"

The minions took off into the sky, mere dots in the distance. Kozmotis laughed wildly, staring at their diminishing forms.

"And have fun..."
