Rainy night in LaRousse

A heavy storm thundered over LaRousse city as May ran for the Pokémon center. It was already dark and she was really tired and soaking wet. The only thing on her mind was a nice, warm bed to sleep in.

She soon burst through the Pokémon center door.

"Hello, and welcome to the Pokémon center." Nurse joy said.

"Please...tell me you have a room." May grunted as she leaned against the counter.

"I'm sorry but we are completely booked. I can give you some blankets and pillows for the couch if you'd like."

"Yeah." May sighed. "That would be fine. Can I get some towels and somewhere to change?"

"Yes. I'll be right back with those. And you can change in the bathrooms there." Nurse Joy pointed.

May nodded as she leaned further against the counter. Nurse Joy went and quickly retrieved some towels for her to dry off with. Once she had the towels, May quickly dried off as much as she could and changed into her pajamas.

Just as she fixed up the couch to sleep on, the door to the Pokémon center opened and her green haired rival walked in. May remained silent as he closed his umbrella and strolled up to the front desk.

"Hi, welcome to the Pokémon center, we are full at the moment but is there anything else I can do for you?" Nurse Joy asked.

"Yeah." Drew stated. "Can you heal my Pokémon and show me where the phones are?"

"Yes." Nurse Joy set the Pokéball tray on the counter. "And the phones are just around the corner."

"Thank you." Drew placed his Pokémon in the tray.

He then turned and went for the phones. Once inside one of the booths, he dialed the number for his house and waited. Though, he hoped no one was home. Well, at least that his parents weren't home.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Lizzy." Drew gave a small smile.

"Drew! How is my favorite brother?" Elizabeth chirped.

"I'm your only brother." Drew chuckled.

"It doesn't matter, you're still my favorite." Elizabeth giggled. "So, what's up? You don't usually call the house or anyone but me unless it's a special occasion."

"Yeah...I'm in town and the center is booked." Drew replied.

"And?" Elizabeth presser.

"Are mom and dad home? Because I'd really like a nice bed to sleep in, but not the 20 questions of why I choose to be a coordinator." Drew grumbled.

"Nope. You're all clear. They left a few days ago but won't be back for another week." Elizabeth said. "Should I send a car?"

"You don't have-"

"I know, but I'm not going to have my brother traipsing around in this weather. They say it isn't letting up until at least tomorrow morning. So, I'm sending a car. See you soon, favorite brother of mine." Elizabeth sang before hanging up.

Drew shook his head but smiled as he went back to the lobby. It was going to be good to see his sister without his nosy, disapproving parents.

He collected his healthy Pokémon, and just as he was about to sit on one of couches, he noticed someone else there.

"May?" Drew questioned.

"Drew? What are you doing here?" May sat up.

"I was supposed to be passing through until the rain came. Now with the center full, I'm heading home." Drew shrugged. "What about you? Why are you out here?"

"Same as you, expect for the going home thing. Since the center is full, Nurse Joy was nice enough to give me a blanket and some pillows for the night." May said.

"You're going to sleep on the couch?" Drew questioned.

"Yeah, but it's fine." May assured.

Drew was quiet for a moment as he mulled over what to say next.

"You want to come with me?" Drew suddenly asked.

"What?" May blinked in surprise.

"There is plenty of room and it would be much better than sleeping on a couch." Drew pointed out. "I don't mind and even if my parents were there, they wouldn't mind. So?"

"Um...I'll come. Thank you." May smiled.

"Sure. Get your stuff. The car is here." Drew stood up.

"What?" May paused a moment, but saw a rather luxurious car pull up in front of the Pokémon center. "Oh."

With that, May quickly gathered up her belongings and set the blankets and pillow at the front desk. Once that was done, May joined Drew and the two went into the car. It was a short ride with some idle chatter from May, but once the two coordinators arrived, May was stuck speechless.

Drew's house was huge and had an amazing landscape that surrounded the mansion. It didn't even seem real. May never would have guessed Drew came from this much of a wealthy family. He certainly didn't act like it.

"May, are you coming inside?" Drew asked.

"Oh, yeah." May quickly nodded. "Sorry. I...I guess I just never expected this."

"Yeah. My parents are big business people. Always away on business trips." Drew sighed.

May watched him, worried. Was he really lonely as a kid? Is that why he was more closed off when they first met? What was it like to live like that? Although, before May could ask, Drew beat her to it.

"Hey, before we go in, I feel like I should warn you." Drew stated.

"Warn me?" May raised an eyebrow.

Suddenly, the door flew open and a girl with short green hair, green eyes, a pale complexion, and a striking resemblance to Drew, stood in the doorframe. She had a bright smile as she eyed Drew and his surprise guest.

"Hi Drew! I'm so glad you made it!" Elizabeth sprang forward and hugged her brother.

"Nice to see you too, Lizzy." Drew hugged her back.

"Oh! Who is this?" Elizabeth jumped back to get a look at May.

"Hi. My name is May and-" May tried to introduce herself.

"Wait! You're May! The May that is Drew's rival!" Elizabeth squealed, in excitement.

"Um...yes?" May replied.

"Oh my gosh! Drew has told me so much about you. He even-ep!" A huge clap of thunder interrupted her.

Drew could not have been more thankfully for the timing. He knew exactly what his sister was about to say and he really didn't need May to know. Not yet anyway.

"How about we get inside?" Drew suggested.

The girls nodded and the three of them quickly went inside.

"Wow! This place is amazing." May awed at the beauty of the house.

Drew knew she would be distracted long enough for him to talk to Elizabeth without her getting suspicious.

"Lizzy, we need to talk." Drew said.

"Sure." Elizabeth smiled.

"I need you not to tell May about...you know." Drew muttered.

"You mean that you're madly in love with her?" Elizabeth grinned.

"Lizzy!" Drew barked, his cheeks burning bright red.

"Would you relax?" Elizabeth waved her hand dismissively. "It's no big deal."

"It is because I haven't told her yet." Drew gritted his teeth. "She has no idea."

Elizabeth's face went blank and she grew quiet.

"Really? Wow, bro." Elizabeth giggled. "Don't worry. I got this."

"Lizzy!" Drew panicked.

Elizabeth went up to the still dazzled May.

"It really is amazing, isn't it?" Elizabeth stood next to May.

"Yeah." May replied. "So, what is your name?"

"Oh! In all the excitement, I forgot. My name is Elizabeth but you can call me Liz, Lizzy, Beth, or just whatever you want. It's nice to meet the famous rival of my brother." Elizabeth extended her hand to May.

"It's nice to meet you too." May accepted the handshake. "I had no idea Drew had a sister."

"I'm not surprised. He doesn't visit home much, but we are still super close. He talks about you whenever we get the chance to chat. It's great to finally meet you." Elizabeth chimed.

"Really? Drew talks about me?" May asked as she glanced over at Drew.

"Yep." Elizabeth grinned.

Though, before the girls could continue the conversation, Drew stepped in. He couldn't let his sister bust him.

"Why don't we raid the kitchen and then go to bed. It's late." Drew cut in.

"That would be great. I'm pretty hungry since I never ate dinner." May remarked.

"I thought so." Drew smirked. "Come on, the kitchen is this way."

He placed a hand on her shoulder and turned her towards the kitchen. Once May was turned, Drew sent a glare at his sister, who only shrugged with an amused smile.

"This is it. If you want it, I'm sure it's in one of these cabinets." Drew said as they entered the kitchen.

May didn't need to be told twice, and began rummaging through the hundreds of cabinets.

"So..." Elizabeth cooed sneakily. "Are you going to tell her, or should I?"

"You. Wouldn't. Dare." Drew growled.

"I would." Elizabeth grinned. "And I will if you don't tell her by morning."

Drew glared at her, and she glared back. Even if they were close and always had each other's backs, they also always took the chance to poke fun at the other. And right now, Drew was making it all to easy for Elizabeth.

"So May, I have so many questions." Elizabeth remarked as she stepped next to May. "What is it like coordinating? Did you know that's what you wanted to do? Was it love at first sight like it was with Drew?"

"Elizabeth!" Drew gritted his teeth.

"Coordinating is amazing. But I didn't know about it in the beginning like I..." May trailed off as she realized what Elizabeth said. "Wait, what! No! It's not like that!"

"Hm, I guess you could say your love for them both came later." Elizabeth grinned smugly at Drew.

"What! No...I mean...um..." May stammered as her cheeks reddened.

Drew had to stop this before it escalated any further. For his sack as well as May's.

"Ok, let's get to bed. It's already really late and I need my beauty sleep." Drew flicked at his bangs.

"Yeah, you really need it." Elizabeth laughed.

Drew ignored his sister and turned to May.

"Come on, I'll show you to a room." Drew waved for her to follow.

With that, the two walked off silently. They made a few turns before Drew finally spoke again.

"I'm sorry about my sister. She's great and all, but can be a bit much at times." Drew commented.

"It's ok." May replied. "I know how it with siblings."

"Right." Drew muttered.

A few more silent minutes passed between.

"So...you talk about me?" May suddenly asked.

Drew felt his cheeks heat up slightly.

"Yeah. You are my best friend and toughest rival. Why wouldn't I talk about you?" Drew reasoned, purposeful leaving out the part about his feelings for her.

"Oh." May said. "Is that it?"

"Did you expect more?" Drew asked with a mixture of surprise and hope.

"I don't know...I guess I just-Ah!"

A loud clap of thunder startled May and she invariantly clung onto Drew, just as he turned to face her. She whimpered quietly against the fabric of his shirt.

"Hey, it's ok. It's just thunder, it can't hurt you from in here." Drew assured as he gently hugged her back.

"I know. It just scares me sometimes. Sorry." May slowly pealed herself off him but didn't go far.

"You don't need to be sorry." Drew smiled warmly to her. "Everyone has something they are scared of. Even me."

"You? What are you scared of?" May asked, shocked.

He should have known that question was coming the second he opened his mouth. But maybe it wasn't a bad thing. After all, it was either tell May now, or have Elizabeth tell her tomorrow, and if May was going to hear it, it was going to be from him.

"I'm scared...to tell the girl I love how I feel about her." Drew admitted.

"You...you love someone?" May asked in a low, disappointed tone.

"Yes." Drew answered. "I do."

"Who...who is she?" May dropped her gaze.

Drew pulled her a little closer, bringing her gaze back to met his.

"May, it-"

Another boom of thunder shook the house and May jumped. This time, her lips made contact with Drew's, and he took his chance. He held her close and kissed her like he had always wanted to.

"It's you, May." Drew confessed as he pulled back. "I love you."

May was in complete shock. She was kissed and just told that her long time crush actually returned his feelings. All in the midst of a thunderstorm in his home town. It was a lot to take in.

However, Drew took her silence as rejection.

"Well...this is your room. I'll see you in morning." Drew turned and started to walk away.

"Wait!" May hugged him from behind. "I'm sorry. I was just surprised. The truth is...I love you too."

Drew turned in her embrace and hugged her. All fear and sadness disappeared. Nothing else mattered.

More thunder went off, signaling it was time to part ways and go to bed. After all, they had to deal with an over the top excited Elizabeth tomorrow, and they were going to need plenty of sleep to handle that.

THE END!!!
