Chapter 30 - Searching For Answers

Y/n pov

Right now I’m basically jumping up and down in my seat, my brothers decided that they wanted to go to a waterpark today and I couldn’t be more ecstatic. I haven’t been to a water park in years for obvious reasons.

Jungkook, Taehyung and Jimin have been telling me about all the different water slides all morning and I can’t wait to go down them all.

After what feels like centuries we arrive at the park.

Your outfit ~

As soon as we’re all ready we head to the slides. After about 4 hours we’d completed almost all the slides.

We left out a few like the trapdoor one because I’m here to have fun not a heart attack.

I wonder who came up with the idea of trap door slides like who sits there and thinks ‘imagine a water slide where people stand on a door which randomly opens dropping onto a slide, then people can experience what it’s like to fall from the sky.’

We had some lunch at the waterpark before heading home. The first thing I do is jump in the shower and change  then head downstairs to meet the boys.

“Hey are you all going somewhere?” I ask, noticing their unusual attire. They’re all wearing black from head to toe as though they’re about to break into a house.

“Yeah we just have some work to do.” Says Hoseok.

“Dressed like that?” I ask.

“It’s called fashion dear sister.” Taehyung says.

“I’ve known you long enough to know what your styles are and this is not it. Tell me what’s going on.” I say in a serious tone. They’ve been hiding stuff from me for too long now it’s about time they tell me what they’re up to.

“It’s nothing, we might not be back until tomorrow so behave yourself Mrs Choi will be here if you need anything.” Yoongi says quickly dismissing the topic at hand.

The front door closes before I even have time to reply. If I wasn’t so pissed right now I would be amazed at how fast they are, like cheetahs, agile and fast.

Fine then if they won’t tell me I’ll have to find out myself. The most important thing is to not get caught by any of the house staff. I already know that dad’s office will have the answers to everything.

It’s safest to wait until tonight to go through dad’s office, that way everyone will be asleep so there’s less chance of me getting caught. However I’m too impatient to wait that long for answers so for now I’ll search through my brothers office and their rooms.

My room and my brother’s rooms are all on the same floor. The only person except us that is allowed on this floor is Mrs Choi. She’s busy right now so it’s the perfect chance.

I search all their rooms but find absolutely nothing. Just as I’m about to give up I come across a notebook in Namjoon’s rooms.

It looks like an ordinary notebook but for some reason I’m drawn to it. I pick it up and take it to my room. I quickly skim over the first page to make sure it isn’t his diary because I’d feel bad reading his diary. Yes I know I’m already sneaking through his room but that has a purpose I’m not trying to find out anything that isn’t necessary.

I start reading through the notebook, every page has a different person’s name and some information about them including their date of death. At the bottom of each page is a small paragraph which seems to detail what they said in their last moments, by the looks of things they were all murdered.

Why the hell would he have these and how would he know what they said? Did he murder them? I unconsciously suck in a sharp breath at the thought.

Are they all killers? I try to think of other explanations to everything but this is the only one that makes sense: the notebook, the profile of the man I took from dad’s office, them always going out at night and their unusual attire tonight. However I can’t help but feel like there is more to it: why have so many guards, why haven’t the police intervened, how have they become so rich, all these questions still remain unanswered.

Looks like I’ll need to wait until tonight to get all the answers I’m after but for now I can be sure they’re not who I thought they were.

“Y/n it’s time for dinner.” Mrs Choi said from the other side of the door.

“I’ll be down in 5.” I say back, after I hear her footsteps disappear I take a deep breath and close my eyes.

In just 15 minutes I’ve found out a truth that will haunt me forever. I want to hate them for it all but I can’t. They’re my brothers and I love them. It makes me feel like a villain knowing they’ve taken someone’s son, daughter, brother, sister, mother, father, friend from them. Possibly innocent people have been hurt in one way or another but I still look up to them, I still see them as my brothers. I wasn’t even involved in this mess yet I still feel guilty, I still feel invisible blood on my hands.

It’s hard when you love a person or people so much. Even though you know what they’ve done is immoral you don’t care. Instead you choose to ignore the dark side of things and focus on the happier things. It’s like someone is covering your eyes and only removing their hand when things are all well.

“Y/n are you okay?” Mrs Choi’s concerned voice pulls me out of my thoughts.

“Yeah sorry I just got distracted, I’m coming just now.” I say whilst wiping a few stray tears I didn’t notice fell.

The whole of dinner I kept thinking about what I found out earlier, I really need to dig deeper now to get all the answers I’m after.

*Time skip – 2am*

I carefully make my way out of my room trying not to make any noise. I already have the key to dad’s office, I found it in Jin’s room. I quickly unlock the door to dad’s office and shut it gently behind me.

“Okay where should I start?” I whisper to myself.

I start by searching the drawer but all I find is paperwork and more people’s profiles. I then check the cupboard but it’s just filled with binders which I don’t have time to read through. I then look at the book shelf and find nothing. I stand in the middle of the room and slowly start to turn looking for anything out of place. I notice that one side of one painting has a small gap when the other side is completely flat against the wall.

I carefully pull on the side with the gap and open it like a door, behind the painting is a safe with a padlock. I put in my mum’s birthday as the password and guess what it opens!

I find an old looking diary on the front it says ‘the family business’. What is that supposed to mean?

Now I know I said that I wouldn’t read through people’s diaries but this could be the only way to find out the truth so just this once.

I open it to the first page and it says ‘this book is property of the Kim family.' On the top of the first page there is a date 19/01/1954. Underneath someone has written:

Today marks our first ever mission, me and my sons successfully killed our rivals, gained more men and status. One day our family name will be known and feared by all, they’ll hear Kim and immediately beg for mercy. The Kim family will become the strongest mafia the world has ever seen.

Kim Dae-Seong

Mafia? My family is in the mafia....

Question of the chapter: what colour is your school bag? Mine is purple/lavender.

Sorry for taking so long to update again. I’m hoping to go back to posting once a week now that summer holidays are over.

Sorry for any mistakes and thanks for reading!! 💜💜
