| i. THE ORIENTATION PARTY

The sun shone bright high in the sky as Victoria walked into the training area for the specialists. She was looking around in hope of finding her sister. Her gaze caught a group of first-years specialists wandering around the area and glancing at the seconds years from time to time.

"There you are!" Danielle exclaimed, walking up to her sister. She was fully dressed in the specialist's uniform with a sword in her hand. "Sword combat?" She questioned with a smirk on her face, waving the blade in the air.

Victoria grinned, grabbing her sister's blade. She ran up to the platform and cracking her knuckles, stretched her hand with the blade in front of her. Her sister suddenly lunged forward, making Victoria easily dodge the attack. Danielle raised her leg to kick her in the stomach, but the brunette ducked to avoid it.

"Woah, you're getting good, Dani." Victoria commented.

A small crowd of specialist started to surround the platform, scanning their moves. As soon as Silva noticed his daughters on the platform, he stopped whatever he was doing and came up to them.

The swords clattered with each their move as they clashed. Victoria swung her arm aiming at the girl's jaw, but Danielle dodged it. She quickly raised her leg, kicking Danielle in the knees, making her stumble back and fall on the floor.

"You've got some moves," She heard from behind her. The girl tilted her head and turned around just to see a brown-haired boy smirking at her. "But your footwork is shitty."

"What are you talking about, Riven? I think her footwork was great." A blonde beside him spoke up, gaining a scolding look from his friend.

The girl chuckled, not fazed by their comments. "I saw how he tackled you down," She spoke, pointing to the blonde next to Riven. "So I don't think that my footwork is shitty."

She stretched out her hand to help Danielle get up. The girl pulled her up, cleaning the dust off of her back. Victoria jumped down the platform before placing the sword on it's right place and walking up to her father. The man had a proud smile on his face as his eyes were scanning the girls.

"That was spectacular, girls," Silva praised them as the three of them headed to their first training lesson. Danielle's mouth corners lifted up a little, showing her gratefulness to her father. "You're getting better each day."

"Thanks to you." Victoria stated, before stopping right next to a group of first-years.

Since the girl were ten years old, Silva started training them in case they would join the specialists. He put them on pressure, especially on sword combat. He managed to help them control their abilities, but it wasn't enough. They needed Alfea.

"So, after your classes, you are all mine," Silva started, pointing at each first year student with his sword. His eyes piercing through their souls. "And I like the things I own to work well, so you will train every day. Find you skill. Hone your skill," The man stated and squinting his eyes, pointed his sword at the boy at the end of the line. "And eventually you, can fight like him."

Then everything happened so fast, the students could barely register what was happening. Silva threw the sword at the blonde boy, before lunging his sword towards him. The blonde blocked his attack, grunting in surprise and Silva getting an opportunity, kicked him in his stomach.

He chuckled. "He fights even better with a bit of advance warning." The blonde commented, ruffling his hair. He quickly found Victoria's gaze and sent her a smile.

"He did all right. Favored his left, but what else is new?" Silva spoke, looking at each student. "Sky's father was Andreas of Eraklyon," The man stated, making the blonde boy stop in his tracks and look at him. "That made him a legacy admission, but he still showed up on the first day and did the work."

Victoria and Danielle nodded at their father's words, knowing he also was talking to them. The girl was impressed by Sky's skills, she knew all of it was a hard work their father put the second years through.

"I expect nothing less from the rest of you, whether you're third generation and your parents demanded you to come or if I personally selected you from your realms for service," He rambled, still pointing the sword at them. "That decision was made based on your natural talents in combat and weaponry, and I expect to see that skill in evidence daily. This place seems like hell, until actual hell comes. We are the first line of defense. A certainty when the future is uncertain."

Suddenly a boy snickered and everyone's head turned towards the boy who was standing at the end of the line. Victoria raised her eyebrows, looking at her father expectantly.

"You're talking about preparing for the future in a castle using swords." He chuckled.

"Must be nice to live in a world where you can be so soft. Where you fear so little that disrespect seems like an option," Silva spoke, slowly walking up to the boy. "Do you know why the barrier exists?"

"To protect the school from the burned ones." He replied.

"I was ten when I saw one for the first time."

Victoria breathed out. She considered leaving, since she and Danielle heard that story many times. They already got tired of it. The girl looked around, just to see the blonde boy leaning against the tree with a small smile on his face. Sky sent her a small wave, making Victoria chuckle quietly.

"Silva!" A voice called out, now everyone's attention was on Riven who was panting as if he ran a few miles. A terrified expression could be seen on his face. "It's urgent."

The man turned to his students, glaring at each one of them. "Dismissed, I'll see you all tomorrow morning." And with that, he disappeared.

Danielle turned to her sister and motioned her head towards the castle. Victoria frowned and shook her head, motioning towards Sky. 'I'll see you at the party' She mouthed to her sister, before walking up to the boy.

"Oh, um Sky, right?" Victoria spoke, placing her phone in her pocket. The blonde nodded in confirmation, ruffling his hair. "I'm Victoria by the way, so did you want something from me?"

"I was just wondering if you were going to the party later." Sky shrugged his shoulders

"Party?"

"Yeah, orientation party," He started, confused as to why she didn't know about the biggest party of the year. "You haven't heard about it?

She shook her head and puckering her lips, tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. "Nope, but I'll probably go and see why's everyone so excited about it." Victoria spoke, smiling.

"Great, okay I'll see you there then." He replied, before turning around and running up to Riven.

As soon as Victoria got back to the suite, she was welcomed by the smell of fresh coffee. She headed to the kitchen where she saw Bloom, holding a cup of caffeine. She stretched out her hand, grabbed the cup and took a sip.

"I'll get dressed and we can go," She sent the ginger a wink, before she ran to her room and grabbed fresh clothes. After a few minutes, she stepped out of the room.

She was wearing black pants and a v-cut violet top, her outfit was completed by gold earrings that hung from her ears. Plus, she her lips were colorized with a dark pink lipstick. Overall... she looked stunning.

"I see Stella's got a competition," Musa commented, scanning Victoria's figure. The girl chuckled and nodded towards the door, motioning for them to leave for the party.

After few minutes, they finally entered the main hall where the party was held. Victoria grabbed Bloom's hand and pulled her with her to the table where nobody was standing. She clutched a glass of orange juice and took a sip from it.

"It's less crowded here," She stated, leaning against the side of the table. "So... you're a fire fairy?" Victoria asked, one eyebrow raised.

"Well, yeah, believe me three months ago I never thought I would say that." Bloom laughed and tucked her hair behind her ear.

Victoria didn't know Bloom, but she had noticed a habit of hers when she was nervous. The ginger would tuck a piece of hair behind her ear or just comb her fingers through it. Victoria thought it was adorable.

"Why?" She questioned, trying to stop herself from entering Bloom's mind. Victoria could get the answer just by reading the ginger's mind, but she wanted to hear it from the girl.

"I didn't know I was a fairy, until three months ago Miss Dowling found me," The ginger nodded, looking around the hall. "Hey, do you know what's outside the barrier?"

The girl frowned and tilted her head, not breaking the eye contact she made with Bloom. She debated whether she should tell her or not. "Uh... wolves, bears or something much scarier," She said, licking her lips. Victoria knew the ginger was up to something, but she wasn't going to invade her private space. "Plus, no one goes beyond the barrier so you don't have to worry about company."

"How'd you know?" Bloom asked, confused.

Victoria waved her hand, chuckling. "I read your mind, sorry."

The ginger nodded and turned around, before walking away from the party, leaving Victoria alone. She questioned if it was good to leave Bloom all by herself, but the girl quickly dismissed those thoughts. Victoria's gaze quickly found Sky's who was already looking at her with no expression on his face. As soon as their eyes met, he walked up to her.

"I didn't know you would come," He stated as he leaned against the wall.

"I told you I would," She started, sending him a sincere smile. "I always keep my words."

Sky raised his eyebrows, a small grin growing on his face. The blonde was fascinated by Victoria's personality, even though he has had known her for a few hours. " So, how's the party?"

"It's boring, I was hoping for something more interesting." She replied, frowning as she was looking at the crowd of people talking.

"Do you want to get out of here?" He questioned, eyebrow raised. Sky glared at Stella as his gaze caught hers. "I could show you around."

Victoria nodded, pushing herself off of the table and walking up to Sky. "Sure, let's go." She replied.

"Hey, Sky." A voice behind them called, making them turn around in surprise. The blonde boy's eyes fell on Stella, his face showing annoyance. "Can we talk?"

Sky opened his mouth to decline, but Victoria was quick to put her hand in front of her and shake her head. "I'll see you later, I need to find Bloom anyways."

She took a step back and walked out of the building, not wanting to deal with Stella's jealousy. The girl read in the blonde's mind that they were together for a some time, but they broke up. Victoria didn't want to interfere between Sky and Stella, so she left them alone.

And with that she hurried to the forest to find Bloom.
