Nine

Ishizu is waiting at Bakura’s hospital room door. She looks heartbroken, as if she literally experienced what I had just done. Maybe she had.

“Ishizu I’m…” I begin to appologise.

“It’s okay Hadley, we’ll get them back.” She cuts me off with an optimistic statement but I can see her eyes welling with tears, just like my own. We hug and sob onto eachother’s shoulders.

“Hadley Stevens is needed at the Duel arena in fifteen minutes.” Roland announces over the PA.

“Ishizu, I need to get ready.” I inform her. She nods.

“I’ll see you at the arena.” Ishizu smiles.

I go to my room. The untoutched, unslept in room. My bag is still on the bed, where I put it before Bakura dueled the Pharaoh. I dress quickly into my black and white stripped shirt and black ripped jeans and my lucky blue Doc Martins that match my band, eyes and necklace, I used to wear it when I would go out with Ryou, we both love stripes, we both love the colour blue, though I more comonly associate myself with the colour black. Blue, despite being a sad colour was too optimistic for me once my parents were killed in Egypt.

I grab my duel disk and my deck and place the ring around my neck too, rushing out of my room to meet Tea, and have a quick and easy duel into the Battle City Finals.

Tea is glaring at me from across the arena. As usual she is dressed in very short demin shorts and a see through mint green blouse. Adding to her pathetic and childish look, Tea wears her shorts and blouse combo with knee high white socks and golden wedge sandals. I hate this girl. I one hundred percent loathe her.

“This is going to be fun!” Tea exclaims. I gag. The second most obvious thing I hate about Tea, first being her constant friendship speeches, third being her sense of style, is that she has such over exagerated positivity. It shouldn’t annoy me that much but it really does. Ryou is, or was, a very optimistic and positive person but he might as well be, or have been my perky albino British brother. I adapted to his attitude when I was young and believed in everything, now it’s just making me much more dark and pessamistic. Where did my hope go? Did Bakura trade it with Satan for a Millenium item? I smile to myself, I always used to be teased by Fluffy about my pessamistic attitude but when I would ask him where my hope or joy went he would admit he sold it to Satan for trading cards and ways to defeat the Pharaoh. It was an inside joke, something I can remember my spirit companion by.

“Lets get started!” Tea enthuses. I shudder. That girl is in love with the Pharaoh! Talk about disgusting!

“Let’s do this.” I smirk.

“Go on Hadley!” Ishizu cheers. I nod at her, my solitary supporter.

“Fine. I draw!” Tea states “I play shining frienship in defence mode and play three facedowns.” She smirks.

“Your poker face needs a lot of work.” I mutter, drawing my card. Yes! This is going to be good. “I summon Ebon magician Curran in defence mode and play two face down cards.”

“If you two broads keep defending nobody’s going to win.” Joey groans.

“It’s only the first turn.” Serenity hisses.

“I now play Pot Of Greed and summon Maha Valio in attack mode. Now Maha attack her magician.” Tea commands. I shrug, it was in defence mode.

I draw the next card I need! Yes! This was the card Ryou gave me for christmas, he spent all of his savings on it. “I play Calling Of The Black Souls, to summon the Black Souled Magician Girl. Now my magician girl attack Tea dirctly.” I smirk.

“But theres a monster in play!” she protests.

“With my Magician Girl’s special effect, she can attack you directly as long as there is a total of at least five spell or traps on the field.” I correct. Kaiba nods.

“She’s right.” He points out. I nod.

“Fine.” Tea scowls as her lifepoints drop to 1800. “Now it’s my move! I play another card in defence mode and use my Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy one of your face down cards!” the card destroys my Back To Square One card. I scowl, now my Mgician girl cannot attack directly. “Now I play Swords of revealing light to stop your attacks for three turns.”

I draw my next card in silence as the holographic swords block my Magician Girl from attacking. My card is Spelbinding Circle. That will be helpful. I remember that Bakura told me that Tea has a Friendship Tie card which has the ability to double it’s attack points for having a second fairy on the field. I shudder, to think a fairy could take down my Magician Girl. “I  summon Dark Blade in attack mode. I now play one card face down and end my turn.” I state. One turn down, two to go, unless I get my own Mystical Space Typhoon card and destroy her Swords Of Revealing Light.

“I now sacrifice my Maha Valio and Shining Friendship to summon Friendship Tie!” I wince, that’s the card. The card which can double it’s attack points, all she needs now is a face up fairy.

“Now Friendship Tie, destroy her Dark Blade.” My life poins decrease by 200. Not too bad. I draw my next card, hoping for a monster to distract Tea with. I look at my hand. I’m holding, Black Soul Merger, Ookazi and another Calling of the Black Souls! I just need a high level dark monster to tribute for my Black Souled Albino Caster as well as a distraction. I have just the monster, Kuriboh! That should distract her. I grin.

“I play a monster in defence mode and end my turn.” Only one turn left. Tea draws her card with a frown. It must be a card which is not a fairy type. I fight back a smile.

“Pass.” Tea scowls. I draw another card. I beam, Dark Magician Girl. A tribute card!

“Okay Tea, be greatful you still have your pathetic little swords because these monsters are going to cream you.” I declare.

“Oh yeah.” She beckons. I nod.

“Firstly I play my second Calling of the Black Souls to summon my Black Souled Albino Caster from my deck. But to do so, I must discard a dark type monster with at least five stars. And I just so happen to have this.” I turn my Dark Magician Girl card around to face Tea. She gasps. “So come forth Black Souled Albino Caster!”

“Holy *bleep* on a *bleep* sandwitch. It looks just like Bakura.” He must mean Ryou, it is only when I play Black Soul Merger that the monster looks like the Spirit of the Ring!

“I end my turn.” I state. Third turn! The swords vanish! I grin, this duel is finished.

“Why do you even try to fit with Bakura? He’s done with you!” Tea sneers.

“Come again?” I ask.

“You’re damaged goods now Hadley. Suck it up! Just get over what Bakura did to you.” Tea whines, her glare icy. I roll my eyes.

“What are you babbling on about now?” I groan.

“He’s a spirit, of a thief! Do you really think he gives a crap about who he knocks up.” Tea demands.

“You are obviously much dumber than I first assumed.” I state. I watch Joey, Tristan, Duke and Ishizu burt into fits of laughter. I see the Pharaoh scowl.

“Wait your not! But it’s obvious! You’ve gained so much weight!” Tea yells. I frown.

“It’s called getting over an eating dissorder you hypocritical bitch!” I hiss. She pouts.

“I summon Dancing Fairy in attack mode. This activates Friendship Tie’s special ability, making it’s attackpoints will double!”I gulp as her monster now has 200 more attack points than my Black Souled Magician Girl. “Also due to this effect I cannot attack you until my next turn.” She says ending her turn. I draw a new card.

“I play Black Soul Merger, combining my Black Souled Magician Girl and Black Souled Albino Caster to make the Black Souled Magic Master.” I smirk, as a figure which resembles Bakura appears on my side of the field. “Now who wants to look like a pathetic little diddums? I’m about to end this duel. Just remember, no tears.” I patronise. “Now Black Souled Magic Master attack Tea’s Friendship Tie!” I command.

“Ha! I still have eight hundred life points left!” Tea laughs.

“Hey Tea.” I say.

“What?” she asks.

“Ookazi, bitch.” I grin.

“No!” she cries, wincing at the loss of her life points.

“Hadley Stevens shall now proceed to the Battle City Semi Finals alongside Melvin Ishtar, Bandit Keith, Joey Wheeler, Seto Kaiba and Yugi Moteu.” Roland announces.

Once I get off of the platform, I am hugged by Ishizu. “You can still save my brothers.” She smiles greatfully. I hear somebody clear their throat. I roll my eyes, turning to face this person.

“Good luck in the Semi’. If I duel you, trust me, I wont hold back.” he holds out his hand. I glare at it.

“I’m not afraid of your God Card.” I sneer as the Pharaoh walks away.

“Hadley!” Tea yells. Please don’t let her be having a tantrum.

“What?” I groan.

“Look if he hasn’t done you then why do you cling to him like a puppy?” Tea asks.

“Hypocrite.” I mutter.

“I didn’t hear you.” She teases. I scowl.

“You are obviously in love with the Pharaoh.” I state bluntly. She gasps. “Yeah I’ve heard you swoon over Yugi’s ‘sexy alter ego’. Even Yugi has heard that! Hell I think even the Pharaoh himself has heard you do that!” I snap. She gasps, taken aback by my statement. “So why the Hell are you so desperate to pry into my relationship with Bakura and Ryou?” I demand. Tea blinks and then storms off. I grin, totally worth it.

“So Hadley, what eating dissorder was it you are getting over?” ishizu asks, almost motherly.

“Anorexia.” I reply quietly, so none of the other contetants can hear.

“How did that start?” she asks, somewhat curious. Okay maybe this wasn’t worth it. I take a deep breath, opening my mouth to explain.
