it had been a week since scarlett and melanie's sleepover, so that means it was the day they were going to halloween horror nights.

"maddy!!" melanie smiles, hugging her friend. melanie and maddy were the first two there so they caught up for a few minutes while they waited for mason.

"hi mel!" maddy giggled as she hugged the girl.

after talking for a few minutes, melanie noticed maddy looking behind her.

"hey mason." maddy waved, which caused melanie to whip around. she took a couple steps back as maddy hugged mason. they exchanged a few words before maddy went to talk to her mom, leaving melanie and mason by themselves.

"hey."

"hi." funny enough, they both spoke at the same time. she didn't even bother trying to hug him. she knew if she did it would just be super awkward so she didn't.

"you never texted me." she muttered, putting her hands behind her back so she could pick at her fingers without him noticing.

"i was going too, but i was too nervous to actually send the text. i probably typed out 10 different messages that i deleted." he told her, and she nodded.
she let out a sigh of relief when fans started asking for autographs. she wouldn't have to stand there in the awkward conversation with mason anymore.

"melanie! can you please sign this?" one fan yelled to get her attention. melanie turned in her direction.

"yeah of course! do you have a pen or something?" she asked, putting a smile on her face. the fan handed her a sharpie and a dvd of the black phone. she quickly signed her name and put a heart.

"melanie! will you sign my shoe?" another fan asked. melanie made a confused face.

"that's a first, but yeah!" she giggled, before kneeling and grabbing hold of the hovering leg. she signed her name and a heart, before standing back up.

"we're sorry guys but we're gonna go to some of the haunted houses." maddy told the crowd of people, grabbing hold of melanie and mason. she began to pull them away as people started making a bunch of sad noises. they all made their way towards the first haunted house. melanie hated to admit it, but she was horrified to go through it. she hated anything relatively scary and she only agreed to go there so she could see maddy.

"is this a bad time to say i hate haunted houses?" melanie said as they entered their first haunted house. she tried to laugh it off but something jumped out at her, which caused her to let out a loud scream. adrenaline was rushing through her body, and her heart was racing. after a few more jump scares she didn't wanna do it anymore, but she felt a hand intertwine with hers.

she looked up and saw mason. she felt a small smile creep onto her face and she felt her cheeks heat up before another jump scare happened. melanie let out another loud scream. after basically clinging onto mason for the last 5 minutes, they were finally out. but melanie and mason hadn't let go of each others hands until it was pointed out.

"you guys are holding hands!" maddy said, pointing to their interlocked hands. the two shared a look before quickly stepping away from each other.

"i was scared so i grabbed onto the closet person." melanie shrugged, no hesitation. maddy, of course, didn't believe her.

"mhmmm." maddy hummed, with a questionable look on her face. maddy's mom jackie, walked over and she was holding her phone up so the camera was pointing to the three of them, she was live. the halloween horror night workers started to circle melanie, and she started to freak out a little bit. mason quickly wrapped his arms around her and lead her away from the actors.

"okay guys i think i'm gonna go home before i have a heart attack." melanie told mason and maddy. her and maddy shared a quick hug and while they were saying goodbye maddy whispered something into melanie's ear.

"if you don't let mason wife you up soon i'm gonna have to take you for myself." maddy joked. melanie giggle and awkwardly waved goodbye to mason.

"and then he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me away from them!" melanie was on the phone with scarlett again and she was telling her about everything that happened with mason.

"to me that seems like boyfriend material." scarlett shrugged, blending in her blush. scarlett was getting ready for an audition.

"please don't say that." melanie whined. she really didn't wanna like mason, but now she wasn't so sure.

"but it's true, mel! he held your hand when you got scared and then when you got cornered and you were scared again he's the one that got you out of there." scarlett said, listing the reasons on her fingers as she went.

"scar please stop, i'm already confused enough." melanie sighed. after talking to scarlett for a few more minutes, they hung up. melanie wasn't sure what to do now, so she went to malachi's room and caught him up on everything that was going on.

"melanie, you're my best friend. i know you better than i know myself. you like him, you just have to admit it." that was the first thing malachi said once melanie told him everything, even about the fights she had with mason.

"i really don't want to like him." melanie whined, face-planting into malachi's pillow.

"you can't control your feelings mel." malachi laid down next to her, but he was on his back, looking up at the ceiling.
