Hermione's POV

Ron and Hermione appeared in the courtyard. There was nothing and no one around them. Just a deafening silence.

They both jumped when they heard voices shouting triumphantly. Quickly, Hermione pulled Ron into a hiding place behind one of the castle walls.

As the voices neared, Hermione could tell that they weren't saying anything. They were just yelling.

Black clad figures walked past them. Death Eaters. Hermione felt tears coming. They had failed, and now everyone was dead.

She saw one of them roll up their sleeve. They were summoning Voldemort.

Hermione shrank back further into the shadows as he apparated next to them.

"My lord, Harry Potter is dead." A Death Eater that Hermione didn't recognize spoke.

"By whose hand!" Voldemort called.

Hermione scrunched her eyes shut even before she heard Bellatrix's shrill voice. "Mine, my lord."

"Excellent work Bellatrix." Voldemort praised. "Now you are dismissed."

As they all apparated away, Hermione felt a tingling sense of suspicion in her stomach.

Voldemort turned his head towards her hiding spot. "I know you're there." He spoke softly, taking Hermione by surprise.

She slowly stepped out of the corner, followed by Ron.

"I'm sorry."

Hermione was taken aback "Did you just, apologize?" She asked him.

Voldemort looked down. "Yes, I did."

"Why?" Hermione questioned.

"I didn't trust you." He replied simply.

"You just killed everyone that mattered in my life." She hissed at him. "You can't just apologize."

"I can though." He told her. He took a few steps towards her and bent down next to her. He whispered a few words in her ear, and disapparated.

I love you, and I am so, so sorry.
