2 | The Fox

"Take one more step and she wont think twice" Beaver said to the fox as he stopped. Avalon removed her hand from her dagger, instantly realizing the fox was on the side of Aslan.

"Relax. I'm one of the good guys."

"Well you look a whole lot like one of the bad ones" Mr. Beaver retorted.

"Yeah, an unfortunate family resembelance but we can talk about breeding later. Right now we need to get moving" the fox replied.

"What did you have in mind" Peter questioned. Suddenly there was scratching on the tunnels door. Avalon pushed the siblings towards the trees, the beavers following closely. She ushered everyone into a tree before placing her hands on a pair of branches and pulling herself up quickly. Peter grabbed her arm, steadying her on the branch beside him. The wolves broke from the tunnel, approaching the fox. Avalon was wiggling unsteadily on the branch, trying to stay still so the wolves wouldn't spot her. Peter noticed and pulled her closer towards him, placing his hands on her shoulders to keep her steady.

"Greeting Gents. We've lost something have we?" Fox questioned calmly.

"Dont patronize me" the wolf snarled at him. "I know where your allegiance lies. We are looking for some humans."

"Humans in Narnia? Thats valuable information dont ya think?" fox asked before being pulled into a wolves mouth, yelping in pain. Avalon wanted to help him but Peters grip tightened. She turned to him as he shook his head. The girls shoulders were tense as she watched the scene play out below her.

"Your reward is your life" the wolf began. "Not much but still. Where are the fugitives?"

"North... they ran north" fox lied, hanging his head.

"SMELL THEM OUT" the wolf ordered the others before he threw the fox. Avalon's shoulders jumped as she watched the fox hit a tree with a whimper. The group of wolves took off towards the North soon leaving the groups sight. Avalon was the first to jump off of her branch, landing on her feet and quickly making her way to the whimpering fox.

"Thank you for helping but thats all the cure I have time for" fox said, standing weakly.

"You're leaving?" Avalon questioned.

"It's been a pleasure little princess, an honor but I must go. Aslan has sent me to get more troops."

"You've seen Aslan?" Beaver asked him. Avalon laughed softly. Aslan was in fact her godfather.

"What is he like?" Mrs. Beaver questioned.

"Like everything we've heard. You'll be glad to have him in the battle against the witch" Fox said. Avalon nodded as the fox bowed to her.

"You're quite lucky to have him as a godfather princess" he said and, the girl smiling softly. The fox scurried off quickly leaving the group again.

"We're not planning on fighting any witch" Susan announced suddenly.

"The prophecy" Avalon said softly, looking to beaver.

"We cant go to war without you" Beaver spoke to Peter.

"We just want our brother back" Peter replied softly.

Avalon nodded slowly before letting out a long yawn.

"Better get some sleep" Mrs. Beaver said. "Long day tomorrow."

Susan layed down and Lucy cuddled into her as she covered them with a fur coat. Avalon propped her back against a tree, pulling her cloak closer to her. Peter laid near the girl, pulling his fur coat around him as well. Avalon yawned once more before laying her head to the side and closing her eyes, soon falling in to sleep.
