Chapter 8

"You're being serious?" Antonio asks suspiciously. I nod and he just laughs at me. "Wow, Aurelia, wow. You're ignoring your old best friend and dating her teammate for club and country?"

"We're not dating!"

"Sure, that's why you gave her your phone number."

"Please just don't say anything stupid," I beg before opening the door. "Hi, how are you?"

"I'm good, how are you?" Hayley smiles. I respond and let her into the house.

"This is my brother, Antonio. Antonio this is Hayley."

"Good to meet you. She talks a lot of you." I smile and elbow him so she can't see and he steps on my foot.

"Does she now?" Hayley smirks. I just shake my head and lead her into the sitting room.

"Do you want a drink?"

"No thank you." She looks around the room and her eyes land on a jersey framed on the wall in the hallway. It was my Sydney FC jersey, with a picture of Antonio and I when I first signed my contract. "You still have your shirt?"

"Yes, felt wrong to get rid of it."

"Understandable, it was your first team right?"

"Yep, started my career at eighteen."

"She's just old now," Antonio says.

"Don't be rude, and keep watch of the time! You can't be late!" I shout after him as he starts walking upstairs, probably to his room.

"So it's just the two of you?"

"Yep. It's probably made us closer than we would've been."

"Sounds hard."

"What does?"

"Raising a kid when you're still one."

"How did-"

"You don't have any photos of them," She tells me. She grabs my hand and rubs circles on the top of it. "You both are so amazing, Ellie." I don't respond to her but I wrap her in a hug.

"I called it! Also leaving now, don't do anything I would do!"

"He's funny."

"Please don't encourage him, Hales." I make us dinner and we continue to talk while we eat and I can't remember the last time I felt so safe with someone I hardly knew.

Once it was a bit later Hayley had to go so she could make her flight back to Portland.

"I'll watch your game, seems fitting since you came to mine."

"I'll score a goal for you!" She responds. She hugs me goodbye and rubs my back. "I'll call you when I get home."

"Looking forward to it."

Hayley's POV

"Seeing your Spanish lover?" Ellie asks when I get back to our room.

"What do you mean lover?

"You've been seeing someone while we've been here. Who?"

"I have no clue what you're talking about."

"Sure. What were you doing then?"

"I was," I tried and think of a reason she would believe while she waited for an answer. "Walking around."

"That's the best you could come up with?"

"What do you mean 'best I could come up with'? I was on a walk."

"Ok, fine. Are you ready to go?"

"Yep. I packed before I left, for my walk."

We left the hotel and boarded the plane. I was sitting next to Caitlin for the next twenty hours, we both were planning on getting some sleep soon and she put headphones in to watch a movie.

From: Carina
Have a safe flight! Text me when you land please!

To: Carina
Is the famous Lia worried about me? I'm flattered

From: Carina
I can't let my Aussie die on me!

I shake my head and put my phone away. Aurelia was someone I could see myself getting closer with, and spending summers in Spain watching her matches.

"Please don't just text your girlfriend the whole time. I need my bestie to entertain me!" Caitlin groans.

"Not dating Cait, so no need to worry. All yours unless I'm sleeping!"

Aurelia's POV

It was midnight now and I was getting ready to go upstairs. I shut off all the lights and was walking up to my room when someone frantically knocked on the door. I groaned and went to check who it was, I looked through the window and saw Alexia's face checking her phone then the door again.

"You realize it's midnight, right?" I ask when I open the door.

"Jenni signed with Atletico Madrid."

"Like the team in Madrid, Spain?" I ask.

"Yes! Where else would it be Lia? What do I do?" Alexia walks in and starts gesturing wildly.

"First, calm down. Madrid is not that close to Barcelona. And we don't play them that often."

"She was at my house."

"She was at your house? Like, where you live?"

"Are you hearing what I am saying right now?"

"I definitely hear it. I just don't understand."

"She showed up and I saw it was her so I grabbed shoes and a coat and told her I was leaving and just came here."

"Weren't you going to text her like, days ago?"

"I was drunk! And you said it was a bad idea!"

"It was! What do you do now?"

"I came to ask you the same question!"

"Talk with her Ale, it'll help," I respond.

"I'm going to see Caro."

"I thought you wanted my answer?" I ask.

"I don't like your answer!" She shouts. I text Caro to make sure she's even awake and tell her that a crazy Alexia is headed her way.

"What are you doing Lee?" I turn around and see her.

"What?"

"You're walking a dangerous line, you know that."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Don't you care about Antonio? What would happen if he found out? How would he react?"

"React from what?"

"If he knew why you really hate her."

"Hate who? I don't understand what you're saying!"

"Caitlin. Why do you really not like her, Lee. You know why."

"Stop."

"See, you know."

"Get out of my house, now."

"It's my house too, Lee. You know that."

"What happened that day? What did she do?"

"The picture," I whisper.

"What picture?"

"Aurelia!" I jolt up and see Antonio standing over me.

"Are you alright?"

"Yeah, yeah why?"

"You were shouting, you didn't know, get out of the house, what happened?"

"Just a dream, sorry I woke you up."

"It's fine, I was getting water, you're sure it's nothing?"

"Yeah, go back to bed Toni."

He left my room and I fell back against the pillows. I grabbed my phone. I had screenshotted the picture a while ago, when it was first posted. The reason Mari was still in her coma.

Just to clarify Mari, (Mariana) is Aurelia's twin sister! And, Matilde is Matilde Fidalgo, she plays for Portugal, and is Aurelia's ex girlfriend!
