The Fallen Friend

Twenty minutes, a set of bruised ribs, and a very, very wounded ego later, Snart and I are still in Chronos's clutches.

Mick seems to think by hurting me it'll hurt Snart more.

He's not wrong.

As soon as I had seen Mick a surge of white hot betrayal had cut through me like a knife.

Snart told me Mick was dead.

He lied to me.

He never really trusted me.

Blood gently trickles in a steady stream down the side of my temple, tickling my skin. A small puddle of scarlet is pooling at my feet.

"Mick."

I lift my head to look.

It's the first time I've heard Snart talk in a long time. He went quiet a half hour ago when he realized Mick was just beating me up for a reaction from him.

Chronos turns to look at him, his beady eyes full of malicious pleasure.

"Why are you doing this?" Snart asks tiredly, "What's the point?"

"The point?" Mick growls, "The point is to kill you."

He stalks over glaring right at his former friend.

"And not just you," he continues pointing a grubby finger at me, "I have orders to kill her and every other "Legend" that Rip Hunter recruited."

"Orders?" I interject weakly pulling myself up to a sitting position, "Orders from who?"

Mick turns his dark eyes towards me.

"The Time Masters."

Dread fills me at those words and with one glance at Snart I see my same reaction.

"Mick, they're liars,-" Snart begins but at a harsh laugh from Mick he stops.

"You think I care?" Mick snarls, "You're just as much a murderer and a liar as they are. But you've gone soft. You care more about her than you ever did about being a crook."

Snart's blue eyes narrow.

"Maybe I found something more important to fight for."

Heat rushes to my face as I realize what or rather who he's talking about.

"So did I," Mick replies as he turns away from Snart, kicking me as he went.

"When you left me, back in the Vanishing Point, I didn't believe it. I waited for you to come back, I waited, and waited," Mick's eyes darken as he speaks, "And waited."

"Mick I never planned for you-"

"To get trapped in a living hell for years?" Mick snarls before letting out a forced laugh, "Yeah sure it wasn't."

Snart goes quiet, staring up at his former ally.

"I went mad waiting for you," Mic hisses as he lowers his head and closes his eyes as if he's banishing horrible thoughts or memories.

His eyes flick open and stare directly at me a smile making its way across his crooked face.

"That's when the Time Masters found me," he continues slowly, "They remade me into their soldier."

"I'm sure that was difficult given what they had to work with," I mutter.

Mick slams his boot into my sternum sending me flying back into the staircase, gasping in pain.

Curse my loud mouth.

"They gave me a mission," he continues calmly, pressing his foot down harder making it nearly impossible to breathe.

The room is becoming blurry and Mick is out of focus.

"Find and kill all of Rip Hunter's team."

"How did you find us?" Snart asks in a tight voice.

The pressure on my chest alleviates and I sit up choking. The room shifts then slowly comes back into focus and I can see Snart watching me carefully whilst Mick walks away searching for something.

I gasp for air leaning heavily against the bar that my wrists are chained to. I close my eyes and let my forehead rest on the cool metal bar beside me. Slowly my breathing goes back to normal.

"Princess?" Snart mumbles quietly so Mick won't hear, "Did he-"

"I'm fine," I growl back interrupting him, "Just peachy."

Snart frowns slightly watching me through calculating eyes; no doubt analyzing the way I'm holding myself and figuring out what bones of mine are broken.

A tattered black cloth is suddenly flung into sight, landing down at our feet. We stare at it nonplussed trying to figure out what it is for a moment before Snart stretches his shoe out and with one swift kick with his leather boot manages to flip it over.

It's a torn and bloody leather jacket.

A very familiar torn and bloody, leather, jacket.

I inhale sharply and stare up at Mick who was watching us for reactions.

"How did you get this?" I ask looking back down at the jacket, "That's mine but I left it back in-"

"Starling City 2046," Mick finishes glaring between Snart and I.
"I've been following your every move just a few steps behind," he explains, "From the 70's to Regal City."

A chill runs up my spine at those words.

Mick notices my sudden tenseness and smiles.

"You really thought your dad was smart enough to bring that building down on all of you?" Mick shakes his head chuckling darkly, "If you did you're stupider than I was when I decided to save Snart back in juvee all those years ago."

Snart's face hardens and his fists clench at the harsh words.

"What is this all for, Mick?" I hiss, "You can't beat us on your own. We've proven that to you already! All your attacks have failed."

Mick leans down towards me, staring right into my eyes.

"But this time, I have leverage," he says softly, "This time, I have you and Snart to draw the others in."

He chuckles when I don't say anything and stands up straight walking towards his control panel.

"Enjoy these few hours," he growls at Snart and I, "They're going to be your last."

I settle for a sharp glare at his back my mouth shut tightly.

"The others are stupid enough to play hero and try to save us," Snart whispers in an undertone, "We have to get out. But we're running out of time."

I don't say anything because I know he's right.
