Scumbag

Trigger Warning: Death

Alexander

"You got the bag?" I asked as I pulled my hair into the usual slicked-back ponytail in the huge bedroom. We had accepted the house that dad had offered us so we could bring Frances Eleanor here immediately and also who's crazy enough to decline this amazing place? Maria and Susan lived next door in that amazing mansion, Peggy went there after school unless she had something to do as if she lived there too though she couldn't live or sleep there because her parents expected her home by eight pm sharp.

"Of course," John pulled on his two extra ponytails as he said that. He held up the baby bag we had packed and we headed out, I slipped into the front seat as he got into the passenger side, "I can't believe this is actually happening." He said excitedly.

I nodded as I pulled out of the driveway, "Me either." I told him honestly as I headed to the orphanage with him bouncing excitedly. When we pulled up though our excitement turned to concern with a slight tinge of horror.

The windows were shot out and the police were surrounding the area, the door was kicked in and I hurriedly parked and ran from the car with John at my heels. We were stopped by a police officer, "Fran-Frances Eleanor Hamil-ilton!" I shouted and stepped back, "Four months old baby of Puerto Rican descent." I just listed facts about her in the hopes they might have her somewhere safe, "Please sh-she's our daughter."

The policeman who had a name tag with the name 'Rodgers' on it looked at another man who nodded before he turned back, "The children in the infant ward are being held hostage by a crazed man who we believe to be drugged up on narcotics. He's armed and we're not sure if all the hostages are even still alive because of gunshots heard."

I felt my stomach hollow out and I nodded, thanking the man quietly for the information and then turning to comfort John only...he wasn't there, "John?" I looked around but it was as if he had vanished.

John

I'm pretty sure my heart's beating alone could be heard all the way in Hawaii but my daughter's in danger and nothing was going to take her from me. I knew Alex was going to be upset and possibly panicky but I know what I have to do, he'll thank me in the end. So far I've slipped past the police and jumped through one of the broken windows, ducking out of sight so nobody would see me.

I kept myself low to the ground as I slunk through the hallways, I tried to remember where Alex had led me when I met Frances Eleanor as I walked. They said the infant's ward so that's where she was, that's where the dirtbag who might hurt her was. I didn't have much, he had a gun and I've managed to get a glass shard and pole. I've been shot before though, I can do this, I'm going to save her, even if it kills me.

I heard wailing and knew that was where I needed to head, the child crying couldn't have been more than a year old from the sound of them so I raced in that direction with the fear that the maniac here might hurt them because of the noise. Frances Eleanor might be my priority but she isn't the only baby here and I'm not going to let any more of them get hurt, it wasn't right, they're just kids. Who shoots up an orphanage?!

I found the door and ducked under the window which looks into the ward. Slowly I peeked through and saw a man pacing, a gun at his side and infants lined up on the floor against the wall. I felt vomit in my mouth as I noticed some of the children were bleeding, some still crying from obvious gunshot wounds while others gazed lifelessly at nothing.

I looked from child to child until I locked eyes with the green balls of joy I've fallen in love with. I heard her faintly smack the ground and shout, "Da!" But then she went flying with a scream, I snapped my eyes to the man with the gun who seemed to have punted her.

Rage filled my every bone and I threw the door open, "If you're going to hurt somebody then hurt me!" He snapped his head towards me but I launched the pole like a lance which surprisingly disarmed him as it hit the gun he had pointed at me and sent it flying.

I didn't waste any time and raced over, stabbing the glass into his shoulder before pushing him against a wall and just punching every inch of his face that I could reach. I saw his nose go bloody and I could feel my knuckles tearing open from the force, "Eat shit, scumbag!" I shouted and then threw him to the ground.

Before he had any more time to react I grabbed the gun and shot him in the back of the head. I shot him over and over and over again until the bullets stopped. When they did I stepped away before tripping and falling down, I leaned over and vomited finally, this was too much. Far too much. I don't regret it but it's sickening.

"Da!" I blinked through the tears I hadn't noticed to see Frances Eleanor trying to wiggle over but she couldn't make her limbs move how she needed to because she was too young to know how.

I got up shakily and pulled her into my arms, "That's me. I'm da, I'll always be here to keep you safe. Okay? Never scare daddy like that again." I just sat there and rocked with her, I could barely answer the police when they stormed in but I just wanted to see Alex and take Frances Eleanor home. I just wanted my family to be safe and I'd kill anybody who hurt them, I'm just glad Frances Eleanor wasn't one of the children added to the casualty list.
