Chapter 97

You watched the scene unfold from a distance, your eyebrows drawing together at the sight of Harvey and William walking away, jim standing completely still as he seemed to comprehend the matter. Making sure Harvey was gone, you slipped out from behind your hiding spot and went over to jim.

"James....? Are you okay?" You asked, looking at his expression, concerned. He snapped back to reality, looked at you, and smiled.

"Never better, my dear~" He stated calmly. Your eyebrows drew together, trying to discern whether he was lying. It was... hard to tell right now. Jim chuckled at seeing your concern.

"Allow me to explain, love~" Jim stated, before he confidently draped his arm over your shoulders, leading you back to his building.

"I have a plan. You are helping me with said plan, although you don't even know it. Just keep being you and you'll keep helping. Harvey thinks I'm afraid of him, everything is going according to plan..."

"... ARE you afraid of him-?"

"Everyone's afraid of everything to some extent, my dear~ its just a matter of accepting that, and controlling how much you show it."

".... James how do I know I can keep helping if I don't know what I'm doing TO help?" You ask, frowning at him worriedly. Jim just smiled back.

"... trust me. You're helping. Right now though, Harvey believes he has the upper hand. He believes I'm riddled with fear, that I have no control over it. His first mistake. He severely underestimated me. Second mistake. He's trying to side with Alex and William against you and I. If he got Alex and you, easily be doomed. Alex and you get along well and will do anything to protect each other. Same cannot be said for William and Alex. Hence by trying to appeal to both of them, hes only going to push them away more. Especially since both Harvey and Alex have a huge personality clash with William. It should be... interesting to see him try to pull it off. Third mistake.. he left you with me." Jim hummed coolly, while you watched him curiously, awaiting a further explanation.

Harvey's POV:

Harvey walked back with William, both of them were quiet now. Harvey was no longer dark and cruel, he was just... normal. He noted as William took a breath in, evidently preparing to say something.

"..... Harvey, you really think jim doesn't have a good side-? At all?" William asked, drawing his eyebrows together a bit. Harvey ran a hand though his hair, looking down at the ground quietly a moment before slowly shaking his head.

".... I've worked for him a lot longer than you have, son... jim is.. not everything he seems to be."

".... so you think he'll hurt y/n..? That's why you always say how much you wish she would just come with us...?" William asked, looking at Harvey, evidently trying to read him. He seemed to be still mad at Harvey, but even more so now with jim. Harvey sighed and slowly nodded.

"... I've seen him do it many times before, William... and I know you have too. Jim isn't capable of love... and he uses that to his advantage. He tricks people into thinking he wants what's best for them and will protect them no matter what, and manipulates them to believe he loves them." Harvey stated, looking over at william's expression, trying to discern what he was thinking.

William's POV:

........ so do you, you bastard.....
