Chapter 2

Amara picked up Grace from her school, on her way home.

"So how was it?" Amara asked

"It was good. The other kids were really nice." Grace said.

Amara nods her head and continued to drive back home. At least one of us had a good day.

"What about you? How was it?" Grace asked

"It was okay but it could've been better." Amara answered

Grace looks at her. "Well hopefully tomorrow will be better." She said being optimistic.

"Yea hopefully it was only the first day after all." She said

The rest of the ride was mostly quiet except for the music that played on the radio. She pulled up to her house and parked in the garage. The two girls get out of the car. Amara locks it and then goes into the house.
"We're home."They yelled at the same time

They took off their shoes at the door and walked in to the dining room where their father sat, reading something.
"Hey. How was it?" Jefferson said and kisses their cheek.

Grace smiles. "It was great. I love it here." She said and then went upstairs planning to talk about it more at dinner.

Amara looks at him. " I hate it here. People are weird here dad. These two boys were talking about a girl taking a liver." She said

"I'm guessing your day wasn't that great." Jefferson said

Amara shakes her head. "No." She said

Jefferson sighed. "Look I know it probably wasn't that great but remember it's only the first day. Give this place a chance." He said

"I'm trying to but it sucks." She mumbles and then went upstairs. She unpacks her bag and sat at her desk. She listened to music when she was doing her homework.

A few hours later when it was time for dinner Amara didn't talk much at the table. She listened to her sister talk about her new school and her dad talk about trying to find a job here. The rest of the night was uneventful for her. She took a shower and changed into her pajamas. She watched some tv for a few hours before going to bed.

The next day at school when she arrived the police officers were at the school Apparently a kid's parent was murdered and he was a suspect. When it was lunch time Amara decided to go to the library. When she was looking for a seat she saw a girl that she recognized from her chemistry class there. She had blonde hair and was wearing glasses. She walked over to her  with her food and sat down.
"Hi I'm Amara." She said and gives her a smile.

The girl looks at her for awhile before she introduced herself. "I'm Erica." She said

Amara nods her head. "Nice to meet you." She said

Erica nodded and stayed quiet. It was quiet for awhile before Erica spoke once again.
"I know your new here. Why did you move?" She asked

"My father wanted a change." Amara answers without getting into detail about her situation

"Oh. Do  you like it here?" Erica asked

Amara shrugs. "It's not too bad." She mumbles

"I'm surprised you haven't become friends with Lydia and Allison. Lydia recruited Allison for little clique when she came last semester. Lydia only lets people who can dress well and are pretty like you in her become her friend. She's your average high school mean girl." Erica said

"Well she sounds terrible so I'm glad I'm not friends with her."

Erica chuckles slightly. She hadn't had someone to talk to in awhile at lunch or in general. She think Amara was nice and nothing like Lydia. The girls continued to talk getting to know each other better. Erica was always insecure and shy but Amara made her feel comfortable. When lunch was over she and Erica exchanged phone numbers.

The rest of the day wasn't too bad. She was excited to talk to Erica again at lunch. When she went home she didn't do much. She did talk about how she might've made a new friend at lunch today. Her sister and father was happy about that. When Amara fell asleep that night she was actually looking forward to school.

The next day Amara was standing with Erica in the gym. They were talking while Scott and Allison were on the rope. Scott had missed his footing and fell. Chuckle were heard across the room. Allison and Scott both got over the harness and stood with class. Allison looks at her and smiles. "Hey." She said

Amara returned the smile. "Hey."
"Stilinkski and Erica let's go." Coach yelled

Amara watches as Erica started to climb and could tell she wasn't okay.

"Erica? Dizzy? Is it vertigo?"Coach asked

"Vertigo's a dysfunction of the vestibular system of the inner ear. She's just freaking out." Lydia said
Coach was telling her to calm down and Erica eventually did. Amara looks at her. She could tell Erica was uncomfortable and embarrassed.

Amara sighs as she entered the cafeteria. She was going to sit with Erica today but now that changed. Erica had went back to the gym to climb the wall and started to have a seizure. She hoped that she was okay. She looks around and saw a dark skinned guy sitting by himself.
Be outgoing. Introduce yourself. She thought to herself as she walked over.

"Hi. Can I sit here?" She says

The boy nods. "Sure. I'm Boyd." He said

"Nice to meet you. I'm Amara."  She said as she sat down, smiling.

Boyd smiled too. He always sat behind himself at lunch and he hated it. So he was glad that he had someone to sit with today.

"Where did you move from?" He asked, knowing that she was a new here

"Maine. Totally different from here." She answers

"I'm sure you like it there better than here." He said
Amara  opened her mouth to speak but then got interrupted by Stiles.
"Boyd. You got the keys?" Stiles came over and said

"This isn't a favor-- it's a transaction."Boyd said

"Right. Absolutely."

"I said fifty."

"Really? I-I remember twenty. I don't know, I have a really good verbal memory, and I remember twenty. I remember that distinct "twuh" sound, "twuh-enty.""

" I said "fifty." With the "fuh" sound. Hear the difference?" Boyd said then when Stiles just paused. He continued.  "If you can't, I can demonstrate some other words with the "fuh" sound..."

Amara chuckles. The two kept arguing and Boyd finally got his money from Stiles. Stiles walked away. She looks at him.

"So you work at an ice rink?" She asked

Boyd nods. "Do you know how to ice skate?" He asked

Amara shakes her head. She had heard a bunch of gasps and murmurs. She looks at a the door and sees Erica standing there, with a whole new appearance. Erica was wearing a black leather jacket, and tight mini black leather skirt. Her hair curled instead of in a ponytail and red lipstick. She was curious about what happened. She watched as picks up an apple from someone's table and bit into it before walking out of the cafeteria. She was going to go after her to ask what happened but the fact that Stiles and Scott ran after her threw her off.

Amara looks back at Boyd. The two had resumed their conversation for the rest of the lunch  period. Amara had one main thought in her head for the rest of that that.
What the hell happened to Erica?
