                                                                                      xXx

Vangie grinned as she sauntered off in the direction of the woods. Ciel was incredibly easy to anger, and she had been able to get Sebastian slightly irritated, so, she decided to let them cool down, and take her time exploring the grounds. She wouldn't delve too far into the forest, since the day would be ending in a matter of about four to five hours, and she was slightly tired from her trip here.

She'd just go into the woods to relax sing a little... and maybe play her tin whistle? She pulled a tiny tin instument out of her pocket, fingering it carefully, then replacing it as far as it could go so that she wouldn't loose it. It had been a gift from a very boisterous and loud irish miner, and she had good memories of him telling her crazy stories about his homeland... the whistle was a very treasured object of hers.

She finally made it to the enterance of the wooded area, and grinned.

This was her kind of place.

The woods were a seemingly neverending forest of dull greens and rich hues of brown. There were various types of plants, some Vangie could name, others, she assumed were native only in England. there were no paths, and Vangie hastily went through her left pocket, and pulled out a compass.
Yup. She'd be fine.

She then began walking happily through the forest, enjoying the change in scenery, and the fresh cool air. Soon, she made it about a half a mile in, and found a large tree, it's type, she couldn't  really tell, but it had large supple branches, and seemed to have eough nooks and crannies to sleep in. She could no longer see the manor, but she could care less. This place was perfect to hang out.

She decided it would be best to relax here for a few hours, so she began making herself at home. First, she grabbed a large amount of wood, and managed to strike up a fire. It was still light out, so she doubted any animals would bother her, but just in case, she felt it would be safer with a fire started.

After this, she set up a little trap for any small game out of string and some sticks she found. She dobted she'd catch anything, but it was worth a try. Then, she sat down in the dirt next to the fire, poking it with a stick occasionally.

After admiring her surroundings for about fifteen minutes, she pulled out her tin whistle. It was about time to play some music.

She closed her eyes and began to play, easily figuring out where to put her fingers for notes and such. She had always had a thing for music, and the people who heard her (well, she couldn't really count them, they were coalminers wanting a cheery tune in the mines) said she was pretty talented. It was probably the only slightly ladylike thing she could do. Sing, and play music.

She whistled out a simple tune at first, playing  twinkle twinkle little star, just for kicks. Then, she got more complicated, and began playing a song she had heard the irish man who had given her the tin whistle in the first place play. It was a song about Ireland, and it was supposed to be incredibly difficult, but she had mastered it a mere three weeks after getting the tin whistle.

She remembered freshly in her mind what the man's reaction had been.

"Look, Liam! I can play that tune you say is really hard to learn!" Vangie gloated proudly.

The brown haired, blue eyed 22 year old gave a hearty laugh, "Sure you can, Lass! Sure you can!" he didn't say it spitefully, just a little teasingly. He probably didn't beleive her.

She grinned, "I'll prove it!"

Liam gave her a wolfish grin, "Go ahead. I'm waiting!"

Vangie gave her 'brother' a smirk. "Fine!" Liam wasn't her actual brother, but she felt like he was, and she wanted to prove him wrong about his assumption, just like a regular sibling would want, she then pulled out her tin whistle, and found all the places her fingers were supposed to go, and closed her eyes. She heard a chuckling, probably from Liam, who was waiting for her to begin. She then hardened her resolve, and began playing.

At first, she heard Liam laughing a little under his breath when she first began, but slowly, he silenced as she continued and she opened her eyes to see his smug expression faded, and a look of amazement plastered across his face, as she finished the last few notes.

She grinned widely, "See! I can do it!"

Liam's eyes were wide as a gold panning saucer, and finally, when he did saw anything, he simply said, "Unbelievable."

Vangie looked up at him in confusioin, "Did I do something wrong?"

Liam shook his head in amazement, "No. I'm amazed because you mangaged to play everything right. Perfect, really!"

Vangie grinned softly, "Not perfect! But I'm glad you're impressed."

Liam shook his head quickly, "No lass, I'm serious. You did that perfect. I've never heard it been played so perfectly except one more place..."

Vangie cocked her head to the side, since she had only been 11 at the time, stories sounded fascinating, especially from another country. " Where?"

Liam smiled softly, as though remembering something, "My Grandmother. But she was an odd one... some said she descended from selkies."

Vangie was now even more confused, "What's a selkie?"

Liam opened his mouth to continue, but a yell pierced the air, "Liam, boy! We need help pulling this coal to the saloon! They paid a handsome fee, and they said they needed more coal for the stove! It's supposed to be a cold one tonight!"

Liam turned towards the voice and yelled, "Right away, boss! I'll be there in a moment!"

Liam gave Vangie a regretful glance, "Sorry Lass. I have to go help the men! But tell you what, tonight, around the campfire when all the miners get together and sing and tell tales, I'll tell you. Sound good?"

Vangie nodded happily, "Yeah!"

Liam grinned, "Great! Now, I've got to scurry before the boss gets angry!" he then ruffled her hair and scampered off, leaving a grinning 'little sister' who couldn't wait till she got to hear about what a 'selkie' was that night.

Little did Vangie know, the chances of her 'brother' being at the campfire tonight were not very high... not very high at all.

Vangie sighed softly as painful memories resurfaced in her brain. Her eyes clouded up with tears as she remembered Liam, but she quickly wiped them away and began playing her tin whistle again, trying to forget everything. Vangie supposed that it would be easier to get rid of the memories if she disposed of the tin whistle, but she refused to get rid of her precious insrument. It was all she had left now.

After playing a few more verses of different songs and tunes she had learned as well as made up, she sighed and closed her eyes for a moment. She was exaughsted from her trip over. Most likely, it was because the time in England was different then the time in her homeland.

After kicking dirt over the fire,  she pocketed her tin whistle and climbed up the large tree, finding a giant branch hidden by leaves, and laid down. Though she didn't plan on sleeping, her eyelids began drooping, and her eyes finally closed, the last thing they saw being a vision of the grinning face of Liam.

Sebastian watched Vangie fall asleep in the tree. The young master had sent him out to fetch her, and he had assumed it would be hard to find her, let alone bring her back... but it appeared it wouldn't be too hard. She had fallen asleep after playing some very peculiar songs.

He silently ventured over to her, and carefully picked her up, being sure not to drop her, and began to walk silently back to the manor. Vangie barely stirred.

She must be exaughsted from her trip here.

But this was not what intruiged Sebastian. It was her talent with the instrument she had been playing earlier. Sebastian felt like he had heard it somewhere, long ago when he was a younger demon, and traveled the world... The song, and the way she played it, reminded him of the deep, dark, depths of the sea. Beautiful, but sad somehow.

But Sebastian simply shrugged off the stange feeling of recognition, and continued walking. He would have to have Vangie play  a song for the young master sometime... it seemed she did have one ladylike quality.

He then heard Vangie mutter something that sounded like: 'No! It can't be! He can't be... gone...' but ignored it, and finally reached the manor, opening the door and winding through the halls until he came to Vangie's guest room, and set her down on the bed. She didn't even stir. He then closed the curtains and walked out, closing the door behing him, whispering softly to himself, "Well, Evangeline Rose Smith, you may not be a lady, but you certainly are interesting."

He then left and continued his daily chores. There was a lot to prepare before dinner.
