Prologue

The legend of Salazar Slytherin

In a small street somewhere in London, a young woman was sitting and reading a fairy tale book to her little daughter. At the first sight, everything looked normal, but when you looked closer you saw unusual but still amazing things. The mother was sitting on a rocking chair with a cup of tea in one hand and a long pine stick in the other. The book hovered in the air before her. She made small pans with the stick and immediately the pages of the book turned. The girl lay in her bed and listened carefully. Suddenly the woman took her glasses off and closed the book. She said: "Okay y/n it's time for bed now!" "But mommy, I'm not tired.", the little girl replied. "Honey", the woman laughed, "you know that I'm really busy right now and I have to do important things so we can be safe here." The girl's lower lip started to shake. "I'm going to bed if you tell me the story of the great sorcerer and his wife!" She looked her stubborn in the eyes. The mother started to smile. "Okay."

As she began to tell her eyes shined and she began to smile. But in her eyes weren't just happiness. There were also pain and sadness. "Once upon a time", she began, "there was a great popular sorcerer. His name was Salazar Slytherin. He was very powerful but cold like ice. He didn't let anyone approach him, because he didn't understand this whole stupid thing with love. But a girl managed to penetrate the cold of him. Her name was Katherine. On one evening, it was the 31. October 957, the sorcerer sat under a tree and played with his wand. After every swivel with it, he noted something in a small blue notebook with a feather. Many people passed him, but no one noticed him. It was like he was invisible. Suddenly a young woman noticed him. She had spotted him right away. Something about him was familiar, but she didn't know what it was. But she knew she had to talk to him. Meet him if she could. Because he was different. He was able to write and even read." "But everyone can read.", the young girl interrupted her. The woman laughed. "Yes, sweetheart, in this period. But in the past, only about 10 % of the population could read and write! Well, in any case, the girl was immediately fascinated and stopped in front of him. She laid her head slightly to one side and after he still had not noticed her, she cleared her throat. He looked up to her. His eyes were slightly confused. He got up and looked down at her. "What do you want?, he hissed. "You are like me.", realized the young woman. At last, she had understood. She started to smile. After all the loneliness she was so happy to have found someone who could understand her. He mustered her, then he grabbed her arm and all of sudden everything started to turn. It got dark and then they were in a small room. The room was dark. Light shimmer penetrated from small columns into the door and wall. Outside you could hear laughter and cheers, like at a party. The woman sat on the ground and pressed her hand to her head, When she took her down, she saw red blood dripping from her finger. The man she had spoken to stood in front of her and her back. When he heard her moaning, he turned around. He knelt. The previously serious, cold face was now full of concern and gentleness. He took her hair out of her face with long, cold fingers. Suddenly the woman saw a small beam of light, then she felt her skin change on the wound and somehow she knew that it was magic and that she had not met an ordinary man.

Salazar Slytherin was the man's name and he taught Katherine a lot. He told her everything about the magic world. How they helped the world secretly and how the world judged them. Katherine had followed him and after she got her wand he taught her many spells. But there was something Salazar wouldn't have thought. He never thought that he'd fall in love with someone like Katherine. And he didn't even knew her blood status, since she was an orphan and never met her parents. So Salazar had to admit to himself that love was not as stupid as he thought. Katherine felt the same way and they confessed their love for each other. Everything was fine, but this new world was not only wonderful and mysterious, but it was also dangerous. More and more Muggle (that was the name of the non-magicians) started to hunt the witches and wizards. Even Katherine was a victim of the hunt and so the unimaginable happened.

It was a day like every other. She and Salazar were increasingly threatened by muggles and had thus begun to go into the forest to expand their magic skills. They mocked around and became careless. After all these years, Katherine had never managed to disapparate. But today she knew it would work. She began to concentrate while Salazar lay in the grass and changed the shapes of the clouds with his magic. She took all her power together and felt how it started to turn, like the first time she met Salazar. With the thought of him, she had to smile. She heard a crack and opened her eyes and turned back when she saw dozens of muggles with flares. The leader smiled. "We have her." " The little girl looked at her mother with blindfolded eyes. "And what did Salazar do?", she asked. Her mother smiled at her and said: "He came to save his princess and turned all the muggles into slimy frogs."
At every word, the mother pecked her daughter in the stomach. The girl started to giggle and soon the whole house filled with cheerful laughter.

At that time, I was too small to understand that the end of the story was changed by my mother. But I turned out differently. There was no happy ending to the relationship between Katherine and Salazar. After she was kidnapped by the muggles, Salazar realized she was gone. He screamed. His scream was loud and full of pain. Birds fluttered out of the trees and the flowers faded on the ground. He was angry. He looked for the nearest village for what he could find. The village was extinct. Only from the marketplace, he heard laughter and cheers. And all of sudden, Katherine's scream. He started running. There was a huge crown and finally, he stood as if rooted on a huge pile of straw and wood. Tied to a pole at the top sat Katherine. She had collapsed and her hair hung in her face. "Katherine", he mumbled. He saw how a torch was lit and before he saw it, the heap of fire burned. "No,", he said quietly. The louder: "NO!" He took his wand and whispered a spell. Shortly thereafter he disapparated. Village dwellers reported that they had found nothing of Katherine after they had burned her. Otherwise, bones or other parts of the body were usually in the ashes. Besides, a few months later, a wave of terror had arrived in the village.

In the spring of 1926, a young woman arrived in London. She looked confused and started to scream a name. The name was Salazar.

But a small detail is still missing in this history. Even the most important. Before they met in the woods, Katherine found out she was pregnant. A small, strong girl was born on December 9, 1926. Her name was y/n Slytherin.
