Chapter 19 - Sick.

"Do you want a cup of tea, Miss Tsubaki?" Kagamine Len asked when they had finished washing the dishes together. The rain wasn't showing any sign to stop-it was kind of lucky and unlucky for Rin at the same time, she could spend her time more with the man she loved, but that also meant she would throw up petals. Rin just hoped that it wouldn't happen in front of the man, she knew how Kagamine Len thought about people who suffered from Hanahaki.

Rin dried her hands using the towel and raised an eyebrow at him, "Are you sure you have tea in your kitchen, sir?" She playfully grinned at him when she saw the man pouted-once again-at her question.

He walked towards the cupboard and opened it, hand coming into it to find out if he did have a box of tea at his kitchen. "I remember I bought-Ah! Here it is," The man exclaimed from his spot and pulled out a brand-new looking box of peppermint tea. The excitement in his voice attracted Rin's attention as she approached him to see the mentioned box of tea.

From the look of the small box in his hands, Rin could assume that the man had never opened that tea before. It was still sealed with the plastic wrapper around it. "I have never tried peppermint tea before, sir." She suddenly said, eyes were staring at him curiously.

"Well, that means today is my first time eating eel and your first time drinking peppermint tea. I guess we experienced our own first moment, right, Miss Tsubaki?" The blonde man put down the box of tea on the counter after tearing the plastic wrapper open and went to fetch his tea cup in the other cupboard.

Rin hummed and grabbed the box of tea on the counter. She raised one of her eyebrows and tried her best not to laugh immediately when she saw the expired date printed on one side of the box, "Sir, I am glad we can enjoy this tea before it expires tomorrow." She gave him an amused smile when the man stopped his movement and looked at her with wide eyes.

"It will expire tomorrow?" He echoed as he also grabbed the box to inspect it. She could see the tip of his ears were turning red-which made him look so adorable for Rin. It was a rare sight, indeed.

Rin quickly took the box of tea from his grip while laughing, "I am not even surprised, sir. Let's make the tea before the rain stops-because what's the best thing other than drinking tea while it's raining outside?" She signaled him to take the kettle so they could start boiling the water for their peppermint tea.

For a few moments, it was silence while both of them waited for the water to boil on the stove. The only sound they could hear was the rain patter on the big window glass and on the wide roof while they were sitting side by side on the high kitchen stool. Rin felt warm inside, she was trying her best not to let her lips stretched into a wide smile when she realized that they were doing the same pose-their elbows were propped on the kitchen counter while their faces rested on their hands. Kagamine Len seemed like he was in a daze as he stared blankly on the window.

"Sir?"

"Hm?"

"What do you think about those people who forget so easily?"

The blonde man blinked a few times before turning away to face her fully, a confusion was obvious on his face-but that question just came out from her mouth without even her knowing it, and there was no time being a loser and just laughed away then say that she was joking.

There was no turning back. She was just going to let the older man answer her question.

"It depends on what do they forget so easily, Miss Tsubaki." The man then replied, voice sounding a little bit hoarse as he spoke up.

She didn't answer immediately.

"I guess the important person in their life." She finally said quietly while staring at the grey colored sky outside. Everything felt suffocating, she didn't know why.

"What do you mean?" He sounded confused, but Rin still didn't move her gaze away from the gray sky-either she was afraid to look at him or the monotone sky looked really interesting for her to stare.

Rin finally turned away towards him, her face was expressionless. "When someone just forgets their first love so easily in their life because of one-sided love, what do you think?"

He stared at her for a few moments with an expression she couldn't describe. There a foreign light that danced in both of his pretty blue eyes. "There is nothing wrong with that. They experienced one-sided love for no one knows how long. They decide to let go and move on rather than being masochist, torturing themselves because of a person who wouldn't even reply their love back."

His words were like thousands of knives being thrown into her body. The pain was there, hunting Rin like there was no tomorrow. They were staring at each other, not knowing of what should they say-Rin's mouth was opened and then closed again, like she was having a battle with her own self. Then again, he was right-it was one-sided love. It was hurtful. It was sad. And it was everything except happiness.

Rin was about to say something once more, but she got cut off by the whistling kettle from the stove. She immediately shut her mouth then walked towards the stove, ignoring the sudden tense atmosphere she was feeling between them. The man, however, didn't seem to notice the change.

She poured the hot water into their cups before putting the instant tea bag into it. She felt Kagamine Len moved to her right side as she watched the hot water turned into a beautiful warm brown color. The faint smell of mint slowly started to fill her nose.

"It smells nice." He broke the silence, that made a smile come to Rin's lips because even though she was so random asking him that question before, the man seemed to understand that Rin didn't want him to keep talking about it.

Rin grabbed the glass tea cup on the counter, silently sighing as she felt warmth spread across her palms. She inhaled the relaxing mixed smell of tea and mint, "It is." She smiled towards the cup.

"I wish we had biscuits. I am glad we manage to enjoy this tea before it expires," He sighed tiredly and then turned away to face her, "I apologize, Miss Tsubaki."

"It's fine, sir! You don't have to apologize..." She hurriedly exclaimed, suddenly feeling bad because the man felt bad-she didn't want to know if that made sense or not. Rin gave him a reassuring laugh, "I am still happy because I can enjoy this tea..." Rin pursed her lips-she wanted to add 'with you' at the end, but she knew it would only make the atmosphere feel awkward.

But the man smiled at her.

She suddenly felt warm and full of so many emotions which she herself had never experienced before. Her heart thumped loudly against her chest, she was scared-scared because the man might hear how stupid was herself to feel this way towards him, someone whom she couldn't reach no matter how much pain she had to feel.

My heart belongs to you.

Rin wanted to say. But like always, her mouth was pursed tight while her heart was screaming at her to just be brave and end her suffering now before it was too late and once again, Rin ignored it.

You don't have any more time.

Her heart whispered desperately. With the garden in her lungs-Rin knew she couldn't survive.

She knew it too well yet she still writing her own story which she herself also knew couldn't end with a happy ending she had desired this whole time.

Rin didn't know what happened, but she remembered it very clearly that both of them were sitting at his living room, enjoying their soon-will-be-expired peppermint tea together while looking at his Café In the Night's album collection. She remembered looking at another side of Kagamine Len that day. His happy, free, and a little bit childish side which she loved it very much.

Then their time had ended.

As if the fate had sent a reminder like the sound of clock in the Cinderella story, three knocks suddenly startled both of them. She saw the man's furrowed eyebrows, from the expression on his face Rin knew he wasn't expecting any visitors at this kind of time especially when the rain outside hadn't stopped yet.

The blonde man walked towards his apartment door and pressed the button on his intercom, "Yes? Who is it?" Rin heard him asked the person across the closed door.

"Len! Let me in! Let me in!"

Rin immediately recognized that feminine voice. Harukawa Kokone was definitely standing outside his apartment right now-but she sounded a little bit different, the older woman's voice was a little bit... tipsy?

The realization hit Rin. Her eyes widened as she stood up from her seat and followed the man who was already opening the door for his fiancé. Rin stopped on her track when she saw the sight in front of her.

She was right.

Harukawa Kokone was drunk. Her whole face was flushed and she barely could even stand, her body kept swinging from side to side-Rin could assume that the model had drunk too much. Suddenly she felt uncomfortable staying there.

"Kokone, what-" Kagamine Len immediately caught the woman's body before she fell onto the floor, her legs were wobbly and she was mumbling some nonsense while laughing.

Kokone giggled drunkly before holding onto her fiancé's shoulders. "Len! I drank too muuucch..." Her body was about to slip off from Kagamine Len's grip but he wrapped his arms around her-Rin wouldn't lie, her heart ached when she saw it.

Rin's eyes widened as the man suddenly grabbed Kokone's body and brought her to the living room bridal style with the girl was still mumbling nonsense. He laid Kokone down on the couch and removed her shoes gently before walking towards the kitchen to grab a glass of water for her.

"Why did you drink so much even though you know your alcohol tolerance is weak..." Kagamine Len sighed as he put his hand at the back of her head to help her drink the water. The gentleness in both his voice and his action made Rin questioned herself, did she have any rights to stay there with him this whole time?

"Leeeennn..." Suddenly Kokone started to sob, "I was so frustrateeedd that's why... I drank...soooooo muucch!" At this point, Rin didn't know if the woman was laughing or crying or both.

Rin watched as Kagamine Len put down the half empty glass on the table and then he softly patted her head, a small, amused smile on his lips. "Why? Why are you so frustrated, Kokone?" That gentle voice again.

Rin knew it would hurt her, but she stayed. She stayed and let herself be tortured again.

Kokone stared at Len like she was a child, her lips were trembling because she was holding back her tears. "Th-They said you don't love meeee! I am saaddd..." She started to cry.

There was a flash of panicked expression on Kagamine Len's face, maybe because he was aware about the fact that Kokone's drunken cries would disturb the neighbors even though Rin was sure it wouldn't since it was raining so hard outside and the sounds were muffled by the loud rain patters.

A familiar, tightening feeling appeared in Rin's chest as she watched Kagamine Len gently wrapped his arms around Kokone and pulled her into his embrace. "No, Kokone... Don't listen to them. You know yourself that is not true." He rocked their body side to side.

It was hurt.

But why did she stay?

"I knowww... but why did I feel so frustrated hearing it!!!" Kokone pushed away the blonde's man body before cupping both of his cheeks and brought their faces closer. "Say it. Say it in front of meeee Len!"

"Wh-What?"

"Say... it!"

There were a few moments of silence before Kagamine Len sighed loudly. He stroked her cheeks softly, a wide smile came to his lips. "I love you, Kokone. You know that, right?" The words came out as fond whisper towards the drunk woman who immediately smiled.

It was enough.

Enough to make the cursed garden in Rin's lungs to bloom.

"Sir, I apologize but I think I should go. I hope Miss Harukawa will get better soon." Rin hurriedly speak up as she walked towards the coffee table to grab her small backpack.

Kagamine Len immediately looked up as if he had just realized that Rin was still there, watching the whole scene unfold in front of her. "It is still raining outside, Miss Tsubaki-wait! Miss Tsubaki!"

Rin closed the door behind her and ran, not wanting the man to see how pitiful she was now. Tears were rolling down on her cheeks as she gasped to breathe. The burning sensation crawled onto her throat but she ignored it and kept running until she exited to building, the cold rain pouring on her trembling body.

When she was far enough from the luxurious apartment building, she let herself cried loudly, feeling glad because no one could hear her in the middle of the rain. Rin coughed violently, white petals mixed with blood fell onto the wet pavement, making it looked like a pitiful painting in Rin's blurry point of view.

She had to stop before it was too late.

Her heart was tired, but it couldn't stop loving the man she knew she couldn't be with.

Rin's legs had given up as she let herself fell onto the pavement, letting all the pain, sadness and despair overcome herself as she remembered how gentle Kagamine Len whispered those words she had been wanting to hear from him-but unfortunately, she had to see him say it to another woman.

Do you want this one-sided to end?

Or do you want this one-sided love to end you?

The voice in her head screamed.

And Rin must be really crazy to think that she preferred the second choice more.

---

"Are you crazy, Tsubaki Rin?!"

The mentioned girl pulled her phone away from her hearing before she became deaf because of the high-pitched voice that belonged to her best friend, Hatsune Miku. Rin sighed, her breath was warm and she felt a little bit dizzy but that didn't stop her from working a part time job in the DVD store not too far away from her university.

Yes, Rin clearly knew she was sick, but she needed to do this part time job so she could pay for her rent and her foods, so she didn't have any other choice, did she?

That was why Rin decided to wake up early this morning and put a cold pack on her forehead then went to her workplace. At first, Rin managed to concentrate in working but then she started to feel dizzy, like the whole room was spinning in her vision. Her breath was warm and she was sweating, even herself could feel the change of her body's temperature.

Miku knew about it and that best friend of hers was angry but she couldn't fetch Rin at her workplace since she had a class after this. That was why the only thing her best friend could do was scolding her through phone and angrily told her to rest.

"Lower your voice, Miku. You're talking to a sick person right here." She rasped as she packed her things in the locker room after her morning shift had finished. Rin decided to put another cold pack on her forehead because she had to work again after this.

There was some shuffling, "Oh, so you realize you're a sick person but you still went to work?! Tsubaki Rin, I swear if we meet tomorrow I am going to smack that stupid head of yours!"

Rin walked out from the DVD store, she needed to catch the next bus. "It's not bad, Miku. I promise I will take a rest after this." She sat down at the bus stop, wiping the sweat on her neck with the small towel she had brought from her apartment.

"Not bad?! Rin, you have a fever! In the middle of the summer! Don't tell me you went out when it was raining yesterday?!"

Rin didn't answer immediately. The memories from yesterday flashed in her mind. She shook her head and then smiled, even though Miku wouldn't see it. "I went out to take my clothes from the laundry shop yesterday and I forgot to bring my umbrella." She felt another pang of guilt hit herself as her best friend believed another lie from her.

"You have a washing machine! Why would you-"

"Ah, the bus is here. I'll talk to you later, Miku."

Before Miku could even answer, she hung up the call without even caring that her best friend might scold her even more tomorrow if they met at the campus. Rin waited for the bus to open the door and then climbed the stairs, that was when it hit her.

Everything around her suddenly spin, she could feel her legs were shaking and she was falling backwards-but someone caught her. Rin blinked a few times before standing up on her feet again and turned her head towards the kind person.

"Are you okay, Miss?" It was a woman with a business suit, a worried expression plastered on her face as she asked the question towards Rin. The blonde girl realized that the woman prevented her falling by holding her back with both of her hands when she was about to fall.

Rin smiled awkwardly, feeling glad her long bangs covered the cold pack on her forehead. She bowed down towards the woman, "I apologize, ma'am. Thank you so much for your help."

"You look pale, are you sure you're not sick, young lady?" The woman narrowed her eyes at Rin who gulped nervously at that-but before she could even think another lie as an answer to that question, a man cut their conversation off-asking them to move forward into the bus.

"Ah, yes. I apologize." Rin bowed down repeatedly before hurriedly walking into the bus and picked the back seat, away from the woman earlier because she surely did not want to be asked questions about her condition by the random woman even though she appreciated her kindness.

The trip to her next workplace didn't take a long time, but somehow Rin managed to fall asleep-her head hitting against the window repeatedly.

---

Tsubaki Rin pressed the bell with a trembling hand, ignoring the odd feeling in herself when she heard muffled footsteps across the door.

"Yes, who is it?"

She heard the man's deep voice through the intercom. Rin sighed before answering, not wanting to sound sick. "It is me, sir."

He didn't answer anymore but there was some shuffling and then the door was opened, revealing Kagamine Len with glasses and another oversized sweater. A look of disbelief on his pale face as he stared at her like she just went back from a long trip.

"Miss Tsubaki." Was the first thing that came out from his mouth-Rin tried to not feel giddy about it.

She gave him a forced smile before bowing, "I apologize for leaving so suddenly yesterday, sir. Something urgent had happened so I needed to come home immediately." The lied slipped out from her mouth so easily.

"In the middle of a storm like that?" He rasped, "I was so worried about you, Miss Tsubaki. I even considered calling the police to look after you because of the storm," He sounded like he was holding back something deep inside his heart.

Rin took a tiny step back, "I... I apologize for making you feel like that, sir."

The blonde man sighed loudly as he ruffled his hair, "Miss Tsubaki, why are you apologizing for that? I worried because I care about you. Do you always forget that fact? Do I need to remind you every day about it?" He raised his voice a little at the end.

She pursed her lips-she didn't understand why the man was so angry about it. She was only a student and someone who cooked for him, nothing more. She didn't want him to feel the burden of being so care towards her.

"Come in." He finally said with a sigh, not meeting her eyes. Rin bowed once again and then slipped into the comfy slippers he had prepared for him. She touched her bangs, making sure they were covering her cold pack.

Rin wordlessly followed him to the kitchen, she glanced at the couch as they passed the living room-her heart aching when she remembered the scene she couldn't forget even though she knew she had to. The familiar feeling like she was being suffocated settled in her chest-but she smiled, she smiled because she had to realize that it was a reality she should accept no matter what.

"Miss Tsubaki, are you sick?" That deep voice she really liked to hear asked, pulling her away from her daydreaming. Rin realized that her throat and her eyes were hot, she didn't understand why did she need to feel like she wanted to cry. She knew they couldn't be together, but why there was still a need to cry over it?

Rin forced herself to look away from the couch. She immediately formed a fake smile on her chapped lips, "No, sir. I am perfectly fine." The blonde girl shrugged nonchalantly and walked pass him, trying to avoid his stare since she herself didn't believe what kind of expression she was making at that time.

"Miss Tsubaki, look at me." The same gentle voice she had heard yesterday made her stop on her track. She squeezed her eyes close, convincing herself to not fall in love again because she was already suffering enough and she needed to realize that before everything was too late.

After a few moments of silence, she slowly turned her head towards him. "Yes, sir? I am fine, believe me." She laughed-it sounded hollow. She was lost in her own unfamiliar voice.

"Your face is red." He briefly said with an expressionless face. His pretty blue eyes stared at her intensely, as if he was trying to read her mind at that time. "Don't lie to me."

"What do you mean," She forced herself to let out another hollow laugh, "It is summer, sir. The weather is really hot."

He walked closer to her and Rin was dumb because she also took a step back to make a distance between them. But the man was fast-he quickly grabbed her wrist and stopped her from moving. "Don't lie to me." He simply said to her and then brushed her bangs with his free hand, his eyes narrowed when he saw the cold pack hidden behind her blonde bangs. "I know you're wearing this cold pack not because of the hot weather."

She pursed her lips.

"You know you are sick right now." Kagamine Len leaned back, letting go of her wrist. "But why did you come to here? You have to take a rest." Her heart ached even more when she heard his voice-he sounded so sincere like he was seriously cared about her.

"It is just a slight summer fever. I will be fine after this." Rin replied coldly and turned away to walk towards the kitchen, not wanting to talk about the topic further-she had finally realized that she didn't deserve the caring behavior from him. She was no one and would never be someone in his life.

"I don't care. You have to come home now and take a proper rest, Miss Tsubaki." She heard his footsteps following her into the kitchen. Rin tried to ignore him but the man once again grabbed her wrist and forced herself to look at him. "Stop pushing yourself like this and just listen to me once."

Something snapped inside her and she harshly drawled her hand away from his loosening grip.

Listen to you?

How about myself? Can you hear me just once just like you asked me to do?

Can you hear me crying over this one-sided love?

Can you hear my heart, Kagamine Len?

Rin took a deep breath, preventing herself from screaming the things in her head because she knew it wouldn't change everything that had happened. "Sir," She tiredly called him, "I said I am fine."

Everything was spinning and her legs were shaking. She could feel her own body's temperature was getting warmer and her eyes were hot to the point that everything was blurry in her vision.

"Miss Tsubaki-"

"Sir, just let me work-"

"How many times do I have to say that I care about you!"

She felt the petals in her throat.

"You don't have to!"

"What do you mean I don't have-"

A pang of pain hit her chest.

"I don't deserve that behavior from you, sir! I am just a stranger to you-"

"You do not know anything about that, Miss Tsubaki! I truly care about-"

Everything was blurry and spinning. She couldn't stand properly.

"Mr. Kagamine, just stop this nonsense!"

"You're the one who have to stop-"

And her body gave up. The last thing she heard was Kagamine Len calling her name repeatedly before everything went into an endless silence.

---

The first thing Rin noticed when she woke up a few hours later was the unfamiliar room she was in. She knew it was one of the dangerous signs that you might be kidnapped and was being held in that room.

But Rin didn't have any time to panic because her head felt so heavy and her throat was dry, as if she had been walking through a sandstorm in the middle of a desert. Rin pushed her body to sit down on the comfy grey colored bed, she flinched when a wet cloth fell from her forehead-she just realized it had been sitting there this whole time. She glanced at the side of the bed to find a bowl of cold water was placed on the floor and a glass of water on the nightstand, there were a few medicines too. Rin narrowed her eyes as she took the wet cloth on her lap and threw it into the bowl.

She was about to climb down the bed when pain suddenly hit her head and made her hiss. It seemed like her body was still feeling unwell. The sound of footsteps made her look up immediately, Rin then also noticed that the bedroom was on the second floor and didn't have a door-

What kind of a person-

"Miss Tsubaki, you're finally awake."

-a person who I love, of course.

Rin straightened her body upon seeing the blonde man entered the room while carrying a tray. "Mr. Kagamine. Why am I sleeping in your bedroom?" She tried to keep her tone and expression straight even though it was really embarrassing for her.

He walked towards the bed and put down the tray on her lap. There was a glass of warm honey tea and steaming chicken porridge on the wooded tray. Rin widened her eyes and looked up to him in a puzzled way.

"Ah. When you were sleeping, I went to the supermarket downstairs to buy some a box of tea and the ingredients I needed to make the chicken porridge." He explained while trying to busy himself by dipping the cloth into the cold water once again and fixing Rin's blanket.

That was when it hit Rin.

She fainted.

She went into an argument with the man and fainted in the middle of it because of her fever. Suddenly her already red face went redder-what was she thinking? She literally screamed at him a few hours ago but the man didn't even bother to bring about it and now he was taking care of her like he already did this a thousand times before.

If there was no tray on her lap, Rin would throw the blanket off from her body and immediately kneel down in front of him to ask for an apology. Since she couldn't do that, Rin bowed her head deeply at him, "I-I apologize for my behavior earlier, sir. I didn't mean to scream at you-"

"Miss Tsubaki. It is alright. I am not mad about that." He then opened his drawer and pulled out a pack of cold pack from it. He took one and peeled off the paper that covered the sticky part.

About that? Does that mean he's angry about something else?

Rin opened her mouth to speak up again but the man cut her off.

"No, don't apologize for coming to my apartment while being sick." He gently brushed her bangs up so he could put the cold pack on her forehead. Their faces were so close-Rin held her breath as she felt the garden in her lungs screamed in triumph because they would escape from her chest soon.

Rin wanted to say something-but she was afraid if she opened her mouth, it wouldn't be words that come out, but petals. So she remained silent as the man leaned back, letting her bangs fell onto her forehead again.

He then motioned the porridge in front of her, "Hurry eat the porridge before it gets cold." He paused, "Don't worry, I know how to make chicken porridge so it won't taste bad."

She didn't touch the spoon on the tray and looked at him instead, "Sir, are you mad about something else? Please tell me." The younger one furrowed her eyebrows.

Kagamine Len sighed loudly before staring at her like she had two heads. "I am mad because you said I don't need to care about you." He finally told her, inviting the surprised look on her face.

Her heartbeat quickened as her head tried to form the perfect word as answer to that statement from him. But nothing came out from her mouth-she looked like a gaping fish. What surprised her more was when the man in front of her chuckled upon seeing her expression.

"Ah, what a cute expression." He said briefly before continuing, "I want to care about you, Miss Tsubaki. So I wish you will stop thinking that you don't deserve this behavior from me. I care about you and nothing and no one-even yourself-can change that. Do you understand?"

For once in her life, Rin thanked the fever because it helped her to hide the blush that appeared on her face. She nodded stiffly as answer-she couldn't even let out a single word from her mouth. Kagamine Len once again chuckled and then patted her head softly, telling her to start eating the porridge.

"Just rest here for a while." He said to her before walking away-Rin didn't even give him a 'yes' or 'no'.

While Rin was eating the porridge the man had made for her-which she was really grateful for it, she wanted to scream because she was so happy-the man walked around his room, making sure she got all the things she needed. He also cleaned a little bit.

Rin then realized.

She wasn't wearing her clothes.

She had changed into an oversized white t-shirt.

"Sir-!" The blonde girl suddenly exclaimed, her voice was high and her cheeks felt really hot-she knew it wasn't because of the fever.

The man flinched at her voice and immediately walked towards the bed, a worried look on his face. "What? What happened? Are you hurt?" He threw the questions without even waiting for her answer.

Rin slowly looked up to him with trembling lips, "M-My clothes..." She mumbled, face flushed.

The blonde man looked at her with a confused look, his eyes were narrowing as he tried to comprehend what she was trying to say. "Your clothes?" He echoed.

There was a few moments of silence filled the room. But then his face went red when the realization hit him on the head. Rin didn't want to think about how adorable the man looked at that time.

"It-It's my clothes, but-! I asked the cleaning lady to change your-you know." He stammered as he looked at everything around him but the flushed faced Rin on his bed. "S-So, don't worry." He mumbled the sentence at the end.

Rin was sure that steam was coming out from both of her ears right now. "Oh-I see. I apologize, I-I didn't mean to-er, accuse you, sir." She cleared her throat, suddenly the air felt really hot.

The blonde man flinched on his place and immediately shook his head, "No-I didn't-I was just trying to explain before-I mean, you know." He once again ended the sentence with ambiguity.

Rin gave him another stiff nod.

Silence.

She tried to remove the tray from her lap which was covered with his thick grey colored blanket. "I-I think I should go now." The younger one said hurriedly, the desire of running away was unbearable.

Despite the awkward situation that just happened between them, Kagamine Len held her on the bed and gave her a fierce look, as if he was saying that if she climbed down that bed right now, he would kick her ass.

"Don't. Finish your porridge first and drink the medicine. You can go home after you have a proper rest here." He stated seriously.

Speechless, Rin stared at him only to have the man stared back at her with straight eyes, signaling that he wouldn't accept any argument from her. "I do not want to burden you-"

"I ask you to rest here, that means you're not a burden for me, Miss Tsubaki."

She slumped on her seat before nodding and then went back to devour her chicken porridge-even though her eyes were still glued to the busy man not too far from herself. Kagamine Len went back to clean around his room, completely unaware of the eagle eyes that were watching every of his movement.

Rin finished her porridge after the man went downstairs while taking away his basket of dirty clothes from his bedroom. She stared at already empty bowl in front of her-for a person who couldn't cook, Kagamine Len sure knew how to make a delicious chicken porridge. To be honest, Rin was expecting a bland porridge when she ate it, but surprisingly, a burst of spices spoiled her taste buds instead.

She put her hand against her forehead to check the temperature of her body. Rin told herself to rest a little bit more before going back to her apartment-she surely did not want to spend a whole day in her life being sick on her lecturer's bed.

"How are you feeling, Miss Tsubaki?" The man asked as he took the tray from her lap and set it down on the floor beside the bed. She watched him grabbed the glass of water and a medicine gently from the nightstand.

"I am feeling a little bit better, I think." She replied while the man opened the medicine and gave a white colored pill to her along with the glass of water.

"You need to drink this medicine for the fever," He paused before looking at her with an unbelievable expression on his face, "I can not believe you let yourself drench in the rain yesterday, Miss Tsubaki. I told you stay, didn't I?" He raised one of his eyebrows towards her, there was a slight of accusing tone in his voice.

Rin almost choked on the water she was drinking, "Yes, you did, sir. But... something really urgent came up and I could not stay-"

"You should at least wait for me so I could give an umbrella or order a taxi for you." The man cut her off with a frown on his lips. Rin tried her best not to stare at his lips with the close distance between them as the man was sitting on the floor beside her.

Her mind wanders to what happened yesterday-so much was happening, but the only thing she could remember was how gentle Kagamine Len treated the drunk Harukawa Kokone. How gentle and easy he said that three words towards her.

"How... is Miss Harukawa?" She found herself asked about the older woman-Rin didn't want know if she was stupid or caring or both at the same time for asking that question even though she knew it would just hurt her eventually.

There it was.

That indescribable light that danced in his eyes every time Harukawa Kokone got mentioned. "She had a hang over this morning. I ordered her a soup for her hang over and then she went straight to her work after that-I still don't understand why did she keep letting herself drink even though her alcohol tolerance is really low." He mumbled the sentence at the end, an annoyed look on his face.

Rin forced herself to smile, "Ah. Miss Harukawa is so hard working. If I was in her place, I don't think I can even stand up judging by how drunk she was yesterday." The words just came out from her lips as if they were already scripted before.

A pang of pain pierced through her when she heard a fond laugh coming out from the man's lips upon hearing her statement. "Yes, she is really passionate about her work." His voice sounded like he was in a daydream.

There were many signs that described how much Kagamine Len liked Harukawa Kokone. Signs that told Rin that she should take a surgery before everything was too late-but why did she keep convincing herself that she still had a hope for this one-sided love?

"I-I think I need to go now, sir. Thank you very much for taking care of me until now. I make sure to treat you a lunch for what has happened today." She bowed her head politely to him and brushed off the thick blanket that was covering her figure. Rin could faintly smell the white camellia in her nose-which was totally not a good sign.

Her heart almost jumped out from her chest when the man suddenly grabbed her arm as she was trying to climb off the bed. She stared at him with unblinking eyes while the man pulled her back on to the bed, a stern expression on his pale face.

"You still need to rest more and I do not allow you to go back by yourself-you might faint once again and I won't be there for you." She felt her heart skipped a beat upon hearing him.

Rin didn't respond to him, somehow, she knew the man hadn't finished talking yet.

"Do you have your roommate's number? You can tell them to pick you up here." He then fixed the blanket on her once again.

She slowly tilted her head to the side, a confused look on her face. "I don't have a roommate."

Kagamine Len's movement literally froze at that sentence. "You live alone?!" He raised his voice-which was a first for Rin since she had never seen him raised his voice at someone like that before.

He saw the surprised expression on her face and then went to his calm side, he cleared his throat. "I surely do not allow you to come home tonight, Miss Tsubaki. You're staying here."

"Wh-What?!"

For now, she didn't know what was happening-she hoped it wasn't her sick imagination playing with herself.
