{47} Painful Apologies

  "Nagisa? Oh GOD! NAGISA!"

She turned to the entrance, Sara dashing at her with flailing hands. She barely had words out when her friend started going over her like a mother checking her child for injuries.

"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" She pulled back and held up her hands. "How many fingers are my hold—"

"Sara," Nagisa strained a smile, "I'm not a child. I'm fine."

Dark eyes glared back at her. "You are so a child after that stunt you pulled. Like it or not; I am the guardian of the Blackmark deviants!"

Nagisa frowned. "Deviants?"

"You definitely aren't upstanding agents now, are you?" She didn't even wait for an answer. "You've been here all night. We're going home, you have a school festival to prepare for tomorrow."

Nagisa frowned, racking her brain to try and recall if she had accidentally re-enrolled into a school during her solo period of running from everyone and everything.

Hm... Nope, highly unlikely.

She gave up and decided to straight up ask her friend instead.

"Why do I Have a school festival to go to?"

"Mei Hatsume," Sara stated simply and Nagisa's eyes went wide.

"When did I ever tell you about that?"

Sara frowned, her lips coming up into a beautiful pout with half mockery. "I am a  hacker you know," she reminded her friend. "That and I think it would be good for that poor girl at home to se her friends again."

   "Right..."

"Aren't my babies amazing?!" Mei squealed, eyes glowing over how the support gear fit perfectly on Ushio.

There was a box that held a small choker and two objects that looked like a cross between hearing aids and ear cuffs. Both items were black and lined with neon blue. Mei squealed as Nagisa and Ushio took turns looking  them over and feeling them out.

"I worked on them with my teacher and some other scientists from the support department," she explained. "We kept the basic properties of your original gear minus the lack of free will, and made it as compact as possible."

Nagisa hummed, helping Ushio get them on properly. "I'm impressed... But what are the neon lines for?"

"Style," Mei stated rather proudly. "But also to help notify you when she's about to lose it. Midoriya told me all about it, and that's why I also made these!"

She pulled out another box and shows Nagisa a pair of matching bracelets before getting Ushio to wear them.

"This way she won't burn her hands."

The device was turned on and it hummed a bit, the lines glowing with the surge of Ushio's energy before settling into a gentle glow. Very slowly, Nagisa unwrapped the bandages covering Ushio's eyes, smiling a bit when the raven haired girl kept them closed a while longer.

"Trust in my babies," Mei assured her, "Midoriya does."

Slowly, her eyes opened, and Nagisa realized how much she missed those kaleidoscopic orbs 0. Ushio looked around for a bit, almost dazed, before she sucked in a sharp breath. Nagisa frowned.

  "What's wrong?"

"...I can see..." the child whispered, "I can actually see..."

Mei and Nagisa smiled before their eyes widened. Ushio was crying, and she was just as shocked as they were at her own tears.

Nagisa laughed a bit. "Are you that happy?" Ushio nodded. "C'mon, we have a concert to catch."

They headed off to the gymnasium where the concert would be held, Ushio's eyes wide as saucers at everything that the UA students had set up for the festival. The main reason she wanted to go was because Eri had let her know of class 1A's performance on one of their visits, and she was eager to see Mina again. She didn't expect to see such grand and colorful preparations, and she was shocked because, embarrassingly enough, she had forgotten what the world looked like with all the fine nitty-gritty details.

They entered the gym and were immediately overwhelmed by the amount of students.

"Huh," Nagisa frowned. "I'm ironically claustrophobic now."

  "Ushio-kun!"

They both turned to see Eri riding on Mirio's shoulders. The blond young man smiled.

"You guys made it!" he all but yelled.

Eri patted Ushio's hair from atop Mirio's shoulders, and Ushio looked up.

"I like your eyes," she whispered, and Ushio smiled.

A loud clack was followed by darkness, and Nagisa whistled. It seemed the show was about to start.

There was the sound of the explosion before a voice blasted over the speakers.

  "THANKS FOR COMING TODAY!"

By the time it was over Ushio was smiling from ear to ear, especially since because she got to see Eri's first real smile. She almost cried. Mirio did.

Mirio insisted on meeting up with the class backstage, and Ushio and Nagisa tagged along, although Ushio could feel her stomach almost lurch out of body. Eri wasted no time finding Midoriya and explaining the show from her view.

"You know, at first there was a loud noise and it was scary, but then everyone was helping with the dance, and then there was a flash and Deku, you went away," she rambled with cute little gestures that Mirio copied. "but then it got cold and there was a spinning light... a-and then a girl's voice said 'wow' and I said 'wow'  too..."

She trailed off when she noticed Midoriya wipe tears from his eyes.

"I'm glad you had a great time," he said with a smile that she mirrored with as much joy as he had.

SMACK.

Everyone was silent, staring wide eyed at Ushio and Mina, who had just slapped the former. Cheek red from the sting, Ushio couldn't bring herself to look at Mina as she ranted.

"Do you know how worried we were?!" she exclaimed, "how could you do this to us!?"

"Woah, Ashido," Kirishima tried to pull her back, "let her explain herself at least."

"NO!" She pulled away and got back in Ushio's face. "I was terrified, I thought you were DEAD!"

"I didn't say anything... because I wasn't sure if things were calm enough yet," Ushio whispered, Mina recoiling slightly. "I asked the others not to say anything after the Hassakai incident because I wanted to tell you myself.

"I didn't want to get you mixed up in my problems," she finally faced her pink friend. "I'm sorry."

There was a silence before Mina surprised Ushio with a hug.

"Silly, that's what friends are for."

It soon became a group hug involving Kirishima, Kaminari and a Mineta who was soon kicked out of it. Nagisa watched from the sidelines, smiling that Ushio had finally realised how blessed she was to have these kids as friends.

It was a melting pot of conversation and clearing up the ice from the special effects, before they left to see other festival events, whisking Ushio with them. They got to watch the beauty pageant because Mina's senpai Nejire was there, after which the guys dragged them off to a haunted house, obstacle course and food stalls.

By the end of the day, Ushio was thoroughly exhausted and asleep on Nagisa's lap on the car ride back to Sara's apartment, a content smile on her face. Nagisa was absentmindedly running her hand through her hair, playing back her conversation with Aizawa.

"I didn't know you were coming to the festival," he commented when they crossed paths.

"Ushio had to get her support gear, one of the first years was working on it with permission from the Support Department." She shrugged before adding, "she also wanted to see her friends again."

"I take it this means she's back in control? What happens to her now?"

"Nothing; she stays with me until the warehouse project is complete." She popped a lollipop she got from a stall into her mouth. "Thanks by the way, for not interfering at the conference."

The dark haired male huffed, shrugging. "Our agreement was that I'd stop you if you went too far."

"The other half of that agreement still stands by the way," she interrupted. "That you'd stop me even if it meant you'd have to kill me."

His gaze bore into hers, a silent understanding passing between them before he turned and sighed.

"Of course, but I wouldn't do that before that warehouse is finished." She perked up at his words. "It's a good idea; keep at it."

She blinked out of it when Ushio stirred a bit.

A good idea indeed.
