Chapter 4

Julia's P.O.V

Unknown: Sup nerd?

The message appeared on my screen after I turned my phone on.

Me: Who are you, and what do you want?

Unknown: When and where are we meeting regarding our English?

Aaron. It can only be him.

Me: How about tomorrow and Friday?

Unknown: Cool, send me your address and I'll come after practice.

My house?!

Doesn't he know how rude my dad is? My stepsister? Stepmother?

Unknown: Nerd? You still there?

Oops.

Me: Fine, I'll send you my address.

Isn't it weird that nobody at school notices me, yet the biggest player has my number?

I send my father's address to him.

"Here." Kevin said, throwing car keys in my face.

"Ouch!" I said, touching my forehead because of the pain. "What's this for?" I asked him.

"Your new car, that way you'll stop coming to my house with that old truck of yours. It stands out like a sore thumb." he uttered and heads upstairs.

Isn't it weird that your parents can't give you the things that you want, yet they can give you the things that you don't need?

The only thing I expect from both my parents is their love and attention. Just that.

But, I don't think it will ever happen.

He can afford to give me a car but he's unable to show me some love. Wonderful!

I put the car keys next to my nightstand and continue with my homework.

**

"Hey Honey." Maria, my stepmom greeted my dad. "Is that my new car parked outside?" she asked in excitement.

"It's hers." he said, referring to me.

He can't even say my name...

"What?! Why the hell did you buy her a car? She's not our responsibility!" she scoffed.

"I bought her that car because her truck didn't fit in our yard. It was way too embarrassing." he uttered.

"Understandable, but when is she leaving my house?" she asked, giving me a stern look.

"Your house?" I asked her. "You came here with nothing, penniless! Yet you claim that this house belongs to you." I uttered.

"Shut up, you b*tch!" Kevin said to me.

"Why should I? Is it because you don't want to face the truth?! This woman doesn't love you, she's just sucking you dry!" I scoffed, leaving the dinner table and heading to my bedroom.

"I hate you!" Maria yelled.

Good to know.

"Go and apologise to her, right now!" Kevin ordered after barging into my room.

"Why? You never apologise to me when you hurt my feelings by telling me that I'm a burden. You tell me each day that you hate me, that you don't want me. You see the pain in my eyes, but you never, never ask me if I'm okay. You never once apologized to me for the hurt that you've caused me. So what makes you think that I'll go and apologise to that woman?" I blurted out truthfully, tears forming in my eyes.

"First of all, she's my wife and you have to respect her whether you like it or not!" he said with a stern look.

"And I'm your daughter, she has to respect me too."

"That doesn't matter because I don't give a f*ck about you." he responded.

Even after I told him how I feel, he still doesn't care...

"So you're going to apologise to Maria, or else I'm kicking you out. You have 5 minutes." he said to me and left my room.

My mother kicked me out, and now my father is about to do the same thing.

**

"I'm sorry." I uttered to her and turn around to make my way to my room.

"Mean it." Kevin uttered.

I turn back to look at Maria. "Sorry, I shouldn't have said all those things. I didn't mean to offend you." I said, sounding convincing, hopefully.

"It's okay." Maria answered with no facial expression.

**

The next morning

"I hate that woman." I said to Leah, telling her about Maria.

"Just stop worrying about her."

"I just hate my family."

"Jules." she sighed. "Ignore them... Anyways, how about we go out for smoothies this afternoon?" she asked.

"Aaron is coming over to my house. We have to prepare for our English performance. Sorry."

"Aaron, the golden boy?!" she squealed happily.

"Yes."

"OMG! Can I tag along?"

"No." I scoffed.

"Come one Jules." she whined. "Please, I won't disturb you guys."

"You'll be a distraction, so no."

"Fine." she uttered in disappointed. "Have fun." she smiled.

"Do you really think I'd have fun?" I rolled my eyes.

"You do know that most girls would die to be in your place right now?"

"I know, and I'm not most girls... Let's get going, or else we'll be late." I said, making my way to my next class.

**

"Can someone just please open the f*cken door!" Brookes yelled from her room.

"Okay sweetie!" Maria answered and thereafter opened the door. "Brookes, I think he's here for you!"

"I'm coming!" she said, rushing down the stairs to the door. "Aaron!" she squealed.

"Hi, and you are?" he asked her.

"Brookes." she smiled.

"Oh. Sorry, but I'm here for..." he said, trying to figure out my name.

"He's here for me." I said to Brookes.

"What the hell?!" she scoffed. "Why would he be here for you? Of all people?" she asked me.

"That has absolutely nothing to do with you." I said to her, turning around to face Aaron. "Come in." I said to him.

"Don't you dare talk to me like that!" she said, pulling me by my hair.

"Hey! Stop it. What's up with you?" Aaron asked her, removing her hand from my hair.

"Don't ask me what's up with me. You're not her type, your my type!" she screamed.

"Maybe you should go back to your room." I said to her.

"No."

"Okay, then I guess you don't mind helping us with our English performance." Aaron smiled.

"What?" she asked in confusion.

"We're going to do schoolwork." I explained.

"Lame." she uttered, heading upstairs.

"Your sister's weird." he chuckled.

"Stepsister." I corrected him.

"Stepsister?" he repeated.

"Yes, stepsister."

"Okay, seems like you guys don't like each other." he said, taking a seat on my dad's expensive couch.

"Yeah." I said, not knowing what to say.

"You bring boys into my house? Disrespectful." Maria scoffed, making her way into the living room.

"He's here regarding schoolwork." I answered.

"Doesn't matter." she uttered. "But I don't mind, because he sure is a fine young man." she mumbled but it was loud enough for us to hear.

Disgusting.

"I'll go get us something to drink." I said.

I come back with two glasses of juice. I hand one to Aaron and take one.

"Doesn't your mother get one?" he asked.

"Stepmother. Besides, she has something better to do." I said, giving her a stern look and she headed to her room.

"Where's your biological family?" he asked, taking a sip from his juice.

"This is my father's house, he got married again. My mother stays just outside of town."

"Oh."

"By the way, my name is Julia." I said to him, since he doesn't know my name.
