Our mistake was presuming that the species that dominated the planet was the one that we should contact first.

After all, they are similar to us.

They walk upright, on two legs.

Flat faces. Arms that end in hands. Bodies naked of fur. They wear clothes to keep warm. They use technology to shape their world.

So similar to us.

So, with great joy, we greeted them and were prepared to treat them as equals.

We began to share our knowledge. Share our technology. Bring them into the comradeship of United Alien Friendship Community.

There are some good ones. The best of this species is what we expected.

Hopefully we have whisked these better ones to a place of learning. They do not yet know of the fate of the others. Maybe it is better that they never learn.

The rest were a disappointment.

They were quick to learn how to use the new technology and ideas that we  gave them.

The U.A.F.C. has charged us with crimes against the Newly Discovered Species Act.

You accuse us of Colonialism. Getting rid of a species in order to take over their planet.

I can see why it looks that way.

But hear me out.

Their capacity for WAR was an unexpected negative.

They declared WAR on us.

They thought that they could take our planet away.

Their motivation? They had just about destroyed all their resources on their home world. It was unbelievable the mess we had to get them out of when we arrived. 

Nothing we did for them satisfied them. They were like entitled children, always demanding more. We have never encountered anything like it before!

We gave them so much!

It was exhausting.

They should have known that we had kept a few things back.

It is not good to let a young species know all our secrets. We were once as brutal as they are now.

I do not apologise for using brutality against brutality.

It was them, or us. I chose us.

If you wish to condemn me for that, then so be it. 

But I was not going to stand by and watch my people get killed. 

When we were threatened, we used the dark ray weapon against them. On their home world.

It was a terrible thing to do.

We did not kill all of them.

There are enough left to re-build their numbers and start anew.

As I said, we preserved the best of them. They were taken off-planet before all this occurred.

We will re-build this planet in a way that suits our people.

We have found some new allies on this planet.

They are intelligent. They possess the values that the United Alien Friendship Community seek out.

I think you will be pleased to meet them.

They have been hidden from the dominant species for a long time.

But now, they have come to the fore.

They are aquatic, thus do not look like us.

They are developing impressive psychic ability and the U.A.F.C. include species that can help these beings progress.

We no longer support the advancement of the species HUMAN.

We will, from now on, promote the species CETACEAN.
