long distance - paddy dow

Y/n looked into her mirror as she did her makeup for her 23rd birthday. Y/n was a bit bitter-sweet about it because she wouldn't be sharing it with Paddy. Y/n and Paddy had been long distance for a year now. Paddy had gone to Melbourne to continue his footy career, while Y/n stayed in her small town in Cairns.

They had seen each other for a limited amount of time. Only two or three times they had seen each other. Y/n and her friends were going out together to celebrate her birthday. Y/n fixed up her and then grabbed her purse, running out of the house as she was late.

Once Y/n was at the restaurant, she spotted her friends and ran over. "Look, the birthday girl showing up late to her own party." Y/n's friend, Hannah pointed out. "Oh, shush it." Y/n said, her mood immediately being improved.

"We got you a margarita. And this hat." Her best friend, Julie told her as she placed a paper hat on her head. "Thank you!" Y/n gave Julie a small hug before adjusting the hat on her head.

Y/n noticed there was an empty spot next to her. "Who's the chair for?" Y/n asked, confused. "Dunno, restaurant just left it there." Her friend, Macey, responded.

Half an hour passed, and they were now eating their food. Y/n's mood went sad again, missing Paddy. "You right, Y/n?" Hannah asked, sympatheticly. "Yeah, it's just Paddy." Y/n told her, letting out a mellow sigh. "I'm sure he'll be back soon."

Y/n smiled, moving on from the subject and continuing to chat with her best mates. Until she felt lips place a kiss on her cheek. Y/n instantly turned around to tell off the creep. Instead, she paused, realising who it was. "Paddy?" Y/n said, trying to hold back her tears.

"Paddy." He responded, the biggest grins she had ever seen on his face. Y/n got out of her seat, she crouched down, hands covering her face and tears. Paddy crouched down, trying to pull her back up to stand. Once she was standing, Y/n fell into his arms, sobs making his shirt wet.

"Happy birthday, gorgeous." He said before kissing her. "I missed you so much." Y/n through tears. "Me too." Y/n squeezed him tight in her arms. "The restaurant saved a spot for me, right?" He asked, referring to the empty chair from early. "Yup." She let go of him, letting Paddy sit down.

The night went smoothly. They were a bit handsy, but what else would someone expect. Suddenly, Paddy got down on one knee, not to propose but something else. "Y/n, this year has been miserable without you. That's why I want you to move in with me." Y/n nodded, immediately going in for a hug.

And that was the end of Y/n and Paddy's long distance relationship. It was safe to say that Y/n or Paddy had never been happier.
