luke hemmings was a small freshman whose blonde hair seemed to always be in his face. he didn't mind school, he enjoyed seeing all the different types of people. at his school, there wasn't much bullying. of course there would be an occasional case, but it was not a common situation. everybody was nice and quite close considering the school was not very large.

luke walked into his first hour, which happened to be a study hall. his parents believed that it would be smart for him to take an early study hall so he wasn't stressed at home. it was truly a blessing.

he took a seat in his typical seat, second row in the third chair. he placed his book bag beside him and took out his homework to begin his homework.

his blue eyes drifted up to the door once he heard a loud laugh. calum hood walked into the room, choosing to sit directly behind luke.

calum hood towered over luke. it wasn't just because he was a junior, he was just extremely tall. he seemed to be quiet, but when he surrounded himself with his friends it was a different story. despite the nose ring and eyebrow piercing, he wasn't scary to most people who knew him, including luke. if he was the legal age for tattoos, there's no doubt his body would be covered.

calum peeked over luke's shoulder as the smaller boy wrote an outline for his honors english essay.

"what are you writing about?" the older boy asked, resting his head in the palm of his own hand.

"bugs."

and that's how their friendship began, which would eventually turn into more.
