Chapter XVII | Resistance

P.S: The video up top is the closest I could find to Shade's theme. Listen to it while reading if you want to, or not.
--------------------------------------------

Shade's POV

These humans, they are quite foolish. They believe they can stop me, but they do not have a chance.

"Resistance is futile. Give up, while you still can," I mutter. "No, it isn't. I refuse to go out crying," Atlas glared.

"Believe what you wish," I shrug. I tossed my Pokéball allowing it to release my partner.

"Marshadow, these four are a piece of cake, right?" I ask my partner. Marshadow nodded, preparing to fight.

"Good. Let's take care of these fools, shall we?" I mutter. Marshadow took a step forwards and readied his fists.

Ace's POV

On the ground were Inferno and Eclipse, both unconscious. I decided to persevere anyways.

"Why not a song to brighten the mood?" I smirk. "Not now, Ace," Atlas growled.

"Tsk, be that way," I scoff. "Arcanine, extreme speed."

Arcanine sped towards Marshadow, but dealt no damage. "A ghost-type," Atlas muttered.

"Marshadow, use drain punch," Shade grinned. Marshadow moved faster than Arcanine's extreme speed attack.

It rushed up to Atlas' Sneasel and uppercutted him in the jaw. "Spectral thief."

Marshadow again attacked Sneasel. Shade seemed to be giving Atlas a proper beatdown.

"Counter with night slash!" Atlas shouted, but it was too late.

Marshadow landed the attack on Sneasel and backed away extremely quickly. "Kadabra, use toxic!" Luna called.

The attack hit Marshadow, poisoning it. Before anything else happened, Shade pulled out a yellow vile.

He gave it to Marshadow and it appeared to be free of poisoning.

"Let's go, use shadow sneak then use drain punch when you get behind your target," Shade ordered.

"Sneasel, keep an eye out," Atlas called. "Kadabra, use reflect!" Luna shouted.

The barrier formed around all four of our Pokémon, halving physical attack damage.

Marshadow reappeared behind Sneasel, which I had predicted.

"Sneasel, duck and use night slash on Marshadow!" Atlas quickly called.

Sneasel evaded the drain punch attack and landed its attack on Marshadow.

Suddenly, Shade's eyes turned to a slightly darker red, but you could almost tell no difference.

"Marshadow, return," Shade called. He recalled Marshadow back to his Pokéball. "Go Mimikyu!"

It seemed to be a demonic Pikachu, including its glowing red eyes.

It had the same dark aura that surrounded Shade, decaying nearby life.

"Mimikyu, play rough," Shade grinned. Every time Shade had that look his eyes flash red, and I mean flashed.

Mimikyu rushed at Atlas' Sneasel and did major damage to it. "Sneasel, ice shard!" Atlas shouted.

His Sneasel sped up and hit Mimikyu. It didn't seem to damage it, but rather knock it's head over.

"Disguise," Shade muttered. "It takes the first hit and nullifies damage, but knocks its cloth down."

It's cloth? I thought. So the actual Pokémon is underneath. "Anyone who sees Mimikyu's true form doesn't live to tell the story," Shade grinned.

"How do you think I died?" I shook my head in horror. "So you only collect ghost-types?" I ask.

Shade shakes his head whilst grinning. "I also gather fighting and bug-types to take care of my team's dark-type weakness.

"Marshadow is half fighting and Mimikyu is half fairy," he grinned. "Midnight Star, please use your Pokédex on Mimikyu."

Atlas did as told and pulled out his Pokédex, still eyeing Mimikyu. "Mimikyu, the disguise Pokémon," Atlas' Pokédex started.

"Its actual appearance is unknown. A scholar who saw what was under its rag was overwhelmed by terror and died from the shock."

"Mimikyu is also a ghost-fairy type Pokémon," it added. "Pokédex, what is fairy-type?" Atlas asked.

"Fairy-types are only found in the Kalos and Alola region," the Pokédex began. "They are immune to dragon and are weak to poison and steel."

"Steel isn't in Kanto, only Johto and further," Shade grinned. "And none of you have ghost-types, just give up."

Then Atlas did something. "Sneasel, return," he muttered. "Go, Nidoking!"

"Midnight, poison is neutral to Mimikyu," Shade grinned. "Well how about this?" Atlas smirked.

"Nidoking, poison jab and follow up with drill run!" Shade looked confused, for a moment.

Mimikyu dodged both attacks, but then Atlas grinned as if he had wanted that to happen.

"Ace, tell Arcanine to use fire fang on Mimikyu!" Atlas shouted. Arcanine did as I told, but Mimikyu dodged.

Then Atlas began some kind of weird chant. "Shake the ground; infect thy enemy, allow them to suffer," he muttered.

A purple aura surrounded Nidoking at the end. "Toxic Arc: Venomquake!"

I remembered his venomquake attack, but the aura freaked me out.

Nidoking leapt into the air, stomped on the ground and caused an earthquake. He then use poison jab in a crack, but it seemed to have more force now.

Poison started errupting into the air, and it successfully hit Shade's Mimikyu, and a lot. Suddenly, Kadabra's reflect wore off.

"Mimikyu, heal up with leech life!" Shade shouted, pointing at Kadabra. "Nidoking, drill run Mimikyu!" Atlas yelled.

Before Mimikyu could heal off of Luna's Kadabra, Nidoking sent it flying into a dead tree. It fainted and Shade's eyes grew into a darker shade of red.

"Mimikyu, return," he called. "Let's go, Dhelmise!"

Shade sent out an anchor-like Pokémon. "Dhelmise, anchor shot!" Shade screeched. He sounded like an angry banshee, now.

It took down Atlas' Nidoking in a single hit, along with Crystal's Seel. "Finish off Arcanine with anchor shot," he muttered.

It hit Arcanine, but didn't knock him out. "Ha!" I mock. "Heavy slam, now," Shade grinned. Dhelmise pulled itself into Arcanine using its anchor, knocking him out.

"Go, Gloom!" I shout. "Sneasel!" Atlas called. "Go, Shellder!" Crystal called. Dhelmise finished off Luna's Kadabra with a few ghost-type attacks.

"Go, Staryu," Luna called. The one Atlas caught with her... I thought.

"Gloom, sleep powder!" I shout. Finally the attack landed. From there Atlas finished Dhelmise with night slash.

"Go, Oricorio!" Shade glares. He was getting mad. There were cracks forming on his face, which looked creepy as hell.

"Ice shard!" Atlas called, recognizing Oricorio as a flying-type. The attack hit the slow dancing Pokémon, dealing damage.

"Oricorio, do it," Shade grinned evilly. His Oricorio began dreadfully dancing and soon was surrounded by a greenish aura.

"Go, Marshadow!" Shade shouted. The dance Oricorio was doing had strengthened both of Shade's Pokémon.

"Marshadow, use shadow sneak on Gloom, then spectral thief!" Shade yelled. Gloom was out quickly, ending the sleep powder rain.

"Finish off Shellder and Staryu as well." Marshadow quickly knocked out both, leaving Atlas as our last hope...

Atlas' POV

"Sneasel, take out Oricorio with night slash, followed by ice shard," I call.

Sneasel quickly landed its attacks and finished Oricorio with an extra night slash. "Return," I call. Shade looked confused.

"Go, Beedrill!" I shout. "Spectral thief!" Shade called. "Poison sting!" I shout.

Both attacks landed, but Beedrill fainted. Marshadow didn't become poisoned, sadly.

"Let's go, Pidgeot!" I shout. "Pick him up and fling him at the ground!"

Pidgeot took Marshadow into the sky and tossed him downwards, dealing heavy damage.

Shade clicked something on a black ring he had. "Let's go, soul stealing 7-star strike!" Shade shouted.

Marshadow created a symbol in front of Pidgeot then rammed through it, resulting in an instant-knockout.

"Sneasel, I believe in you!" I shout. Shade grins. "One hit and you're done, Midnight. Give up already," he mutters.

I close my eyes. Connect throughout the mindscape, let us become one, I thought.

Then I open my eyes, expressionless and blank.

"Let the cold within freeze those who oppose us; allow the darkness of our sins repel our enemies," I chant.

Sneasel's claws start glowing and he's surrounded by an aura. "Arctic Helix: Black Frost Swipe!" I shout.

Sneasel rushed up to Marshadow and slashed him three times consecutively then leapt backwards.

In a matter of seconds, Marshadow fell face first into the dirt. Shade started glowing green and strange lines surged into Inferno and Eclipse.

     "N-No! I won't die! I refuse t-to die now! I r-refuse... I won't d-die," Shade screeched.

"You have greatly sinned, Shade," I mutter. "You may no longer remain."

"That's my line!" He screeched like a banshee. Light enveloped him and he disappeared the next instant.

"Atlas, you did it! I don't regret being related to you anymore!" Ace exclaimed. I just glared at him.

Inferno and Eclipse slowly got on their knees. "W-Were a-alive...w-we'll beat y-you, Shade," Inferno muttered.

"Already took care of him," I sigh. Eclipse got back up and limped towards Luna. "You okay?" He asked.

"Thanks to Atlas, yeah," Luna muttered. "You guys helped, too," I cough. "Couldn't have done it without ya."

"Thanks, Atlas," Eclipse smiles. "Woah, Eclipse has human facial expressions!" Ace exclaims.

That concluded the Shade incident, allowing our journey to continue without disturbance.

We all headed to the Pokémon Centre to get some rest and heal our Pokémon. "Thanks, Sneasel," I muttered on the way.

I knew I could count on you, I thought.
