one. making memories

THE ROOM was dark. To a normal citizen the room would cause anyone to become skeptical as a variety of teenagers dispersed mouse traps on the ground of the classroom floor. It was senior prank night and the teens had all been busy at work, setting up pranks for their fellow classmates and teachers to find the following day.

As Kristina pulled the metal bat backwards, she concentrated on the position of her fingers. She had hurt herself one too many times from the trap slinging itself on her finger after it slipped from her grasp. Suddenly, the lights came on and the hundred traps that were all set up reacted to the single touch, bouncing off each other until they returned to their original state.

The young werewolf jolted her hand back as the trap caught her finger again, the sudden noise startling her which forced her to loose focus. Her brown eyes snapped up to see an innocent Matt Donovan stood in the door way with complete shock.

"Ah, come on! Seriously?!" Caroline shouted in an annoyed tone "Do you know how long it took for us to set all this up?"

"Forgot about senior prank night, huh?" Tyler questioned leaning against the table, tilting his head slightly

"Clearly." Matt responded, startled by the responses. Kristina stood from her seated position on the floor and sat on the table beside Tyler.

Caroline stared at him in disbeliefΒ  "How could you forget? We've only been waiting for this since like freshman year."

"Don't poke the bear, Matt." Kristina warned jokingly "I already had an earful before I was dragged down here."

"Yeah, Matt. If I'm doing this, you're doing this." Elena pointed at him with a small smile on her lips.

The Donavan boy frowned at the sight, his expression taken aback "I'm kind of surprised any of you are doing this."

"Caroline's making us." Bonnie stated plainly

Caroline turned around to face Bonnie, demonstrating an unimpressed look as Tyler turned towards Kristina and wrapped his arms around her waist which she leaned into as the others continued to talk.

Caroline's shoulders eased to a normal level and her voice calmed "We're about to be seniors these are the memories that stay with us forever. And if we don't-"

"And if we don't create these memories now. Then what's the point of it all?" Elena interrupted, smiling afterwards.

"Go ahead and make fun, I don't care." Caroline brushed off with a sigh as she returned to setting up her next prank.

"You're all lame. And we've got ten more classrooms to prank." Tyler said detaching himself from Kristina, he picked up his bag of pranking supplies that sat on the cabinet behind them before the pair hurriedly left the classroom.

"See you guys later." Kristina shouted with a giggle.

A while later, after planting many seeds of tricks that would later blossom into a great deal of amusement, the pair of werewolves stood in the hallway as Kristina poured honey onto the doorknob. The two were laughing and joking as Tyler kissed her neck and shoulders softly. Tyler made Kristina feel a happiness she hadn't felt in a long time, he was the main reason she stayed in Mystic Falls after her undoing.

"Well arn't you two adorable." A voice said from beside them. They both turned with a frown, earning the stranger a look of surprise. She was a vampire.

It was a tall blonde woman, her posture was confident and her stare was hard. Kristina stared back at her as she chuckled "Uh, do we know you?"

The woman's hard expression softened as she looked at the werewolf girl intently. She seemed distracted and confused as she spoke quietly, too quiet for Kristina to tap into her wold hearing. It only lasted for a couple of seconds before she resumed to her original pose. "Your Kristina, Elena's friend, and your Tyler which makes you the werewolves."

"And who are you?" Kristina retorted as she crossed her arms, she strongly disliked the way the stranger was speaking to her.

"I'm the new girl." In an instant, the blonde vampire sped over to Kristina and hit her on the back of the head harshly, she was immediately surrounded by darkness as she felt her body collide with the hard floor. All she heard was the sounds of shouting before she was completely unconscious.

______

As the darkness began to fade, Kristina began to stir awake. The first thing she heard was the sound of mismatched voices, hearing snippets of sentences as her ears adjusted to the noise. Her vision was blurred and her head pounded the more she moved. Fortunately, she was a werewolf. It meant that she would be back to normal in no time.

The werewolf blinked, forcing her eyes to see clearly. Sitting up she didn't know where she was at first, until she noticed the familiar surroundings of the science lab. She was still at the school.

"So I'll give you a choice, is it going to be A. The little wolfΒ  or B. Tyler." A male voice asked. Kristina frowned as she twisted to see Elena, Bonnie and Tyler with two strangers. The woman from before and a man, only he wasn't a stranger. He was Klaus.

The current situation caused complete confusion as she felt the pain in her head lapse away. How did she get here? What had happened? And who were these people?

"Since no one can decide I'll do it myself." Klaus lifted his arm, biting into his wrist before shoving his blood down Tyler's throat . "I need you to find a way to save my hybrids Bonnie. And for Tyler's sake... You better hurry."

Kristina's eyes widened as she watched the hybrid snap Tyler's neck, his body fell limp as she inhaled sharply. She knew he wasn't dead. He was in transition.

______

Kristina had been waiting for what seemed like forever. Her dainty hand was placed in her Tyler's chest, her hand in his as he laid unconscious. Klaus was in the school, terrorising Elena with Stefan as he used Bonnie against her will to find a solution to save Tyler. If she was successful, Tyler would live as a hybrid. But if she failed, he would die a horrible death.

Those thoughts continuously ran through the werewolves head as she ignored the comments coming from the blonde woman, to which she had learned was Klaus' sister, Rebekah. All Kristina wished was that Tyler would be okay. She couldn't lose him.

Tyler's body shot up with a jolt, his breaths heavy as he allowed the oxygen to fill his lungs once more. Kristina was immediately by his side in attempts to calm him "Hey. Shh, it's okay. I'm here."

"Where am I? What happened" He questioned with wide eyes that darted around the room. "What going on?" Tyler demanded

Kristina shook her head at him with a saddened face, worried about his well being after discovering the news. "Klaus is turning you into a vampire. A hybrid. You're in transition."

"Don't leave out the hard parts." Rebekah intervened with a smirk "You only survive if your witch is successful. If not...you're pretty much dead"

"You're going to be ok." She reassured him looking into his deep brown eyes "Don't listen to her you're going to be fine.

"I wonder how she's doing" Rebekah smugly stated, turning the phone around to face them "Tick tock goes the gym clock"

As the time ticked away, the hours passed by. Tyler's pain began to grow increasingly worse as his time alive slowly decreased. Kristina's worries grew stronger, she hoped and prayed that Bonnie would find a solution soon but for now, all she could do was soothe the one she loved.

Her head lifted to the sound of footsteps coming down the hallway. Her eyes landed on Klaus who entered the room with determination. As he moved towards Tyler, he stopped abruptly as his expression changed. It was one that matched his sisters earlier look as he stared at her, but the young werewolf didn't understand why.

He shook his head and redirected his eyes to Tyler "Well, the verdicts in. The original witch says the DoppelgΓ€nger should be dead."

"Does that mean we can kill her?" Rebekah chirped in with excitement as she hopped off the counter.

"No, I'm fairly certain it means the opposite" Klaus shot back with smirk.

"What does that mean?" Kristina questioned before she was pulled back by Rebekah. The young werewolf struggled underneath the tight vampire grip as she fearfully watched Klaus edge closer to Tyler.

"Call it a hunch-" Klaus leaned forward with syringe full of blood and held it in front of Tyler "Elena's blood. Drink it."

"No!" Kristina yelled. She wanted him to live more than anything but she did not want Tyler to be Klaus's test subject.

"If he doesn't feed, he'll die anyway, love." He said without any sympathy "Consider this an experiment."

Tyler stared at the blood with thirst and hunger, he looked to Klaus to see the reassurance on his face "It's ok." Tyler attempted to resist it with everything he had by tearing his gaze away but he was drawn back by the scent, etching for the blood he wanted more than anything in that precise moment until he couldn't hold off much longer. He took the vile and drank the red substance to the last drop.

"Good Boy." Klaus smirked

Kristina's face faltered at the scene. A million thoughts racing through her head as she prepared for the worse. Suddenly, Tyler's body began to become restless, he started chocking on the blood knocking over the glass containers on the work surface as he tried to stable himself. But it was no use, he fell on the floor coughing up more blood.

"Tyler? No!" The werewolf girl cried out shoving and wriggling in Rebekah's control.

Tyler was in pain, shifting uncomfortably as Kristina panicked. Klaus had no remorse for the young woman as he watched his project hopefully. After a minute of pure screams, Tyler simmered down. It was quiet. Kristina watched with her breath hitched in her throat. Klaus lowered himself, his eyes inspecting Tyler as he awaited the prayed for succession. Everyone was silent.

The newfound hybrid swung his head back as a growl escaped his lips, his eyes gleaming yellow, revealing that Klaus' plan had worked out. Tyler was now a hybrid. He was both vampire and werewolf and the first step in Klaus' plan in making a whole line of hybrids. The new hybrids fangs retracted as his eyes resumed to its normal state, breathing a sigh of relief that he wasn't dead.

"Well that's a good sign" Klaus smirked

Kristina didn't know how to feel. Rebekah had let her go and all she could feel was mixed emotions towards her boyfriend. He was no longer the Tyler she knew, he was a different species to her. There would be no more joint transitions and that hurt Kristina. With Tyler being a werewolf, she didn't feel so alone. But now, Klaus had taken that away from her and she was left being the only werewolf in Mystic Falls.

"Are you sure you're ok?" Kristina asked as the turned the a corner leading down another school hallway. The original hybrid had let him go for now, but Kristina knew it wouldn't be for long. Tyler was his new asset."

"I'm great, Kristina." He acknowledged looking around as if the world was a different place smiling like he was on top of it "I mean, like, phenomenal. It's a rush. I wish I could explain it. Everything's just better." He looked at her with a smile before lifting her up bridal style and spinning her around laughing joyfully.

Kristina squealed in surprise her brown hair flowing behind her, they stared at each other intently. Tyler leaned down and kissed the girl passionately as he set her down.

"This is going to be an amazing year." Tyler stated. But all at once, Kristina couldn't shake off the gut wrenching feeling of how Tyler's change may affect him and the people around them.
