xxix. arrival

"we will be arriving in roughly ten minutes. please prepare for landing. you may turn your phones off of airplane mode now if you choose."

you never got that sleep you were hopping for.

your dumbass decided to watch anime on your laptop. and not sleep.

now you're sleep deprived, depressed, and annoyed.

at least everyone else managed to catch some sleep.

sighing, you closed your laptop. its been since 06:00 in the morning since you started watching anime. it's now almost 18:00 in the evening.

totally isn't an addiction.

you then decided to message your father, your phone barely surviving at 8% considering you were up all night watching tiktok.

you
hey im about to land
are you at the airport?

after a few minutes of no response, you rolled your eyes. 'of course he isn't gonna respond. not like he's the one who wants me here,' you grumbled.

"psssst."

turning your head, your eyes met with heterochromic eyes.

"hi!" he exclaimed, bouncing in his seat.

you rolled your eyes playfully and gave him a grin. "how was your nap?"

"it was good! but i'm hungry..." he trailed off, starring at his empty stomach.

you chuckled at him. "i'm sure you'll get some food after you arrive back home."

dylan nodded, a smile on his face. "yeah! even though mcdonalds tastes amazing... mommy's cooking is always better!" he boasted.

"dylan~ its too early for you to be yelling," alexis grumbled, covering her ears.

"it's only six though."

"but i'm tired so shush."

you giggled at their antics before you felt your phone vibrate. quickly glancing down, you saw that it was only a notification from youtube. you deleted all past notifications as you groaned internally. you opened up messages to text your father again.

you
my flight lands in like 5 mins
so if youre not there then im going to be napping in an airport chair
my phone is also going to die shortly so if you text me i won't be able to see it :/

you then turned off your phone and placed it in your pocket. sighing, sunk into your seat.

someone then tapped your shoulder. turning around, you saw alexis give you a worried look. "are you okay?"

you nodded, giving her a smile. "yeah i'm fine. my dad just isn't answering my messages so i'll be stuck at the airport for a while."

her lips made an 'o' before turning to kris. he gave you a look that you couldn't quite read, but shrugged it off.

"wait, doesn't that mean you'll be all alone??" dylan asked, his lips trembling.

you waved him off. "i'll be fine. it means i'll have time to take a nap."

he looked at you with worry. he didn't want you to be alone.

suddenly, his face lit up. you gave him a quizzical glance. he simply smiled sinisterly.

weirded out, you turned back around. then the announcements came on.

"we have officially landed. please gather all your belongings and head inside."

you stood up, stretching your sore muscles. shifting into the aisle, you reached for your luggage above you.ย

grasping it, you carried it down and placed it on the ground. you closed the holder, grabbed your suitcase and started walking towards the exit.

as you reached the stairs, someone called out your name. confused, you turned around to spot alexis and dylan running at you.

"WAIT! Y/N!" they exclaimed, huffing and puffing.

you raised an eyebrow before moving in a seat so others could pass. the two of them copied your moves and slid into a random seat.

"o-our parents want to buy you dinner? or l-like a really really late lunch? i-i don't know, but they want to do something nice for you!" alexis mentioned, a huge smile on etched onto her face.

you just stared dumbfound at them. then dylan ran back into the aisle after everyone else was gone and grabbed your hand.

"c'mon! at least you'll have some company until we have to leave you!"

you blinked dumbfounded. then your eyes went wide.

"WAIT WHAT-"

"thank you again for watching our children. we didn't know they would cause such a ruckus!" linda- the mother- exclaimed, patting your shoulder.

you were now in a florida airport, eating some
chick-fil-a that the family had bought for you.

you weren't just gonna turn down free food.

"they're the best! they even have an amazing quirk and speak another language!!" alexis bragged, stuffing her face with the waffle fries.

"oh really now?" drake- the father- lifted his eyebrow.

you laughed nervously, rubbing your neck. "oh- uh- yeah i guess i do."

"yeah! and they're like, amazing!! can we take them home?!" dylan asked excitedly, bouncing in his seat.

kris put a hand on his shoulder, making him stop bouncing. dylan looked up at his brother and then shoved some waffled fries into his mouth.

linda and drake sweat-dropped at their youngest's question. you smiled nervously at dylan as he ate his fries.

"i'm sorry for him. he's quite the, interesting child," linda apologized while placing her palm onto her rosy cheeks.

you waved your hands in front of you. "no no it's all good. i've dealt with worse people."

she sighed in what you think was relief, then grinned at you. "so, why did you decide to come to florida?" she asked, her amber eyes staring into you.

"my dad takes me for a few weeks in the summer. it can't be for too long though considering i still have classes over summer because japan schooling is different than american schooling," you explained, munching on your chicken sandwich. they nodded in understanding, listening intently.

"what school do you attend?" drake input.

you thought about it for a second before replying, "ua."

suddenly, everyone stared at you wide-eyed. you simply blinked in confusion, taking the last bite of your sandwich.

"like- the ua? like the number one hero school in all of japan?? that ua??" you nodded nonchalantly. "i'm also in the hero course." you mentioned, grabbing a fry.

their mouths went agape, baffled at you coolness of the situation. "are you aiming to become a hero?" linda asked, trying to process this information.

you nodded, munching on the fry you grabbed. "of course. i'm probably going to be a sidekick though considering my quirk is only helpful around water. i'm going to try and see if i can use it on other liquids other than water, but i'm not all to positive about being the number one hero you know? i just wanna help others."

"well i'm positive you're going to make a difference kid." drake grinned at you, his mustache following his smile.

linda nodded along with him. "i agree. especially with knowing more than one language helps a lot in hero work."

your face flushed in embarrassment as they praised you. "o-oh thank you," you stuttered.

"no problem kid."

"MOMMMMMMYYY DADDDDYYYYY WHEN CAN WE GO HOMEEEEE~" dylan whined, tears brimming his eyes.

you gave the parents a sympathetic look, having a kid that age is difficult to maintain. "if you all need to leave then leave, alright? i'll be fine here trust me. it's not my first time being in this airport," you suggested, giving them a smile.

they turned to you with furrowed eyebrows. "are you sure? we can stay until your father shows up," linda recommended, worry lacing her voice.

you shook your head. "i promise i'll be alright. i'm a big strong manly man," you boasted, flexing your not-so-big-muscles. everyone laughed as you grinned triumphantly.

you were glad you met this family. if it weren't for them, you'd probably be starving and lonely. they were chaotic, but had the family dynamic you've always dreamed of having.

and they made you apart of it.

an idea popped into your head. "hey linda? may i see your phone real fast?" you asked, holding your hand out.

she gave you a skeptical look but nonetheless handed you her phone. "what for?"

you smiled and opened up her contacts, adding yours into it. you handed her phone back. "i put my contact in your phone and sent a text saying who you are to me. now we can contact each other whenever," you explained.

her face lit up, a smile etching onto her features. "is it alright if i give my husband your contact as well? i think kris would also like it too," she asked.

you nodded. "of course."

she nodded before standing up. "then i guess it's best we head off. i hope you have an amazing time here and have a safe travel back."

you smiled, nodding. "thank you. i will trust me."

everyone stood up (including you) and started gathering their things. you grabbed the handle of your suitcase and put your backpack on your back.

suddenly, two arms wrapped themselves around your waist. you turned your head to see dylan, sniffling as his grip became tighter. you softly smiled, turning around and hugging the tiny child.

"i-i'm gonna miss you..." he croaked, tears running down his face.

"awe- don't worry we can see each other again. i promise. you might even see me on the news once in a while," you cooed, wiping his tears.

he nodded and broke away from the hug. then you were tackled into another hug by alexis, your back making contact with the floor as she landed safely on top of you.

you laughed as she giggled, hugging you tightly. you sat up as she released her grip. kris stretched out his hand, you happily taking it as he pulled you onto your feet.

brushing off the dirt, you gave him a grin. "thanks."

he nodded. "no problem."

everyone shared their final goodbyes, waving as they exited the airport. you waved back until they were out of site. you sighed, a sense of loneliness taking over. you pulled out your phone, ready to check the time.

but it didn't turn on.

"shit," you mumbled, eyes wandering to find a spot to charge your phone.

you spotted a single charging port at a table, not yet taken by anybody. grabbing your suitcase, you lifted the handle up so it's easier to wheel around.

you turned around, only to bump into someone.

"i'm sorry- i wasn't looking where i was going-"

"y/n?"

you looked up, eyes widening.

"dad?"
