Gentlemen's Evening

Surgeons are a different breed than others. Β Maybe it's because we don't usually go around asking for help. Β Or maybe it's because most often we are arrogant in our skill. Β Whatever the case may be we feel like we have a hell of a lot to prove to make sure we are the best. Β Because when we have that scalpel in our hands the patients are putting their lives in our hands. Β

-

Alison kept true to her promise to her brother, James, and kept in contact with Sarah as much as she could. Β Sometimes Sarah didn't respond at all to her texts and sometimes she did. Β It was hit or miss. Β Alison knew that Sarah was working as well, but it would make Alison feel better if she wrote her back. Β

They were now in the final month of his deployment and she was so excited for when he would be coming home. Β

"Hey, I actually wanted to talk to you about something," Alison told Mark as they were at the nurses station.

"Oh yeah?" He asked as he leaned on the counter. Β "What about?"

"Well, you know how my brother is coming home next month?" She asked him and he nodded his head. Β "My mom invited both of us to come home for Thanksgiving. Β What do you think?"

"Are you using your brother's homecoming against me?" Mark asked faking that he was shocked by this.

"I don't know," she said innocently. Β "Will it determine that your answer is yes?" She asked hopefully and he laughed as he shook his head.

"Babe, you know I would have said yes anyway, right?" When he said that it was like her eyes lit up and she stood up on her tip toes to wrap her arms around his strong shoulders and pressed her lips to his.

"Your the best!" She told him as she was making her way up to peds and he shook his head.

*

"I still don't know how you can still live in that trailer and Mark lives in a hotel. Β A hotel, Derek!" Alison exclaimed as she walked into work with her person.

"I don't know what you and Addison have against my trailer but don't hate it until you try it. Β I never understood that. Β I never understood why Mark lives in a hotel either."

"Don't hate it until you try it," she mocked Derek and he shook his head at her, amused. Β

"Your crazy."

"Whatever, I'm fun," she told him before she went off to her department as Richard walked up to Derek.

"Erica Hahn, first day," Richard greeted the cardiologist as she was filling out paperwork at the desk.

"First day indeed. Β And a mountain of paperwork to prove it."

"Derek Shepherd you know Erica Hahn," he introduced the two surgeons as they shook hands. Β

"You're the new Burke," he said knowing that she would hate that comparison as Mark walked up to the three in his leather jacket that Alison found so hot.

"And this is Doctor Mark Sloan," he told the blonde. Β "Head of Plastics. Β This is Erica Hahn."

"Ahh, the new Burke," Mark said shaking her hand and she looked unamused at the comparison as Derek figured she would.

"Welcome," Derek told her and they walked away.

"Interesting guys," Erica said to Richard. Β "And by interesting I mean ridiculously attractive," she finished making Richard laugh. Β "Do you hire on looks alone or is actual skill a factor?"

"Good to have you here Erica" Richard said not answering the question.

"Good to be here Richard."

*

"What exactly is a gentleman's evening?" Mark asked Derek as they walked down the stairs. Β

"I don't know anything," Derek said just as confused. Β Β

"Is it strippers?"

"No, I don't think the chief would have strippers."

"Sure sounds like strippers," Mark quipped as Doctor Bailey walked by. Β "Doctor Bailey," he said getting the resident's attention. Β "What's the first thing that comes to mind when I say the words gentlemen's evening?"

"Tassels, shiny sequined tassels and one dollar bills," she said before walking off.

"See strippers," Mark concluded.

"There will be no strippers. Β I'm almost positive."

"You don't know what this thing is either."

"No. Β But you're in?"

"Why not? Β I like to be surprised. Β I'll have to tell Alison."

*

"Hi Doctor Kenley," Alison greeted the Head of Peds. Β "What do we have to do today?"

"Nothing," he said raising his voice making the fellow jump slightly. Β

"I don't understand," Alison asked confused.

"I said nothing, damnit! Β What part of that don't you understand? Β You are not to be doing any surgeries at all today. Β You are doing book work today and book work only. Β If you go anywhere near a damn scalpel today I will make sure you are fired. Β Understand that now, blondie?"

Alison nodded her head so fast. Β She didn't understand Doctor Kenley's outburst today when she hadn't done anything and she knew that there were patients to see.

"Good now move," he barked at her and she ran away as fast as she could. Β

*

"Help me," Mark exclaimed to Derek as he came into the attending's lounge in a panic and Derek looked at his best friend amused.

"About what?" He asked as he crossed his arms.

"Alison asked me to go to her family's home for Thanksgiving and I said yes. Β I'm freaking out here."

"You really are freaking out," he let out a laugh.

"You're enjoying this," Mark pointed out.

"I am. Β And just because of this I'm coming too. Β Alison invited me also."

"Derek you gotta help me."

"I thought you all got along when they were here last?" Derek pointed out and Mark let out a huff.

"We did. Β But this is different. Β We're actually going to be staying in her parents home. Β

*

"We have a broken nose down here?" Mark asked as he looked at two women holding for dear life onto a wedding dress. Β "What's with the dress?" He asked Callie and the girls let out a frustrated huff.

"It's not about the dress," the blonde said angry as she gritted her teeth.

"Can't they just split the prize?" Callie asked the guy.

"I offered. Β I offered that fourteen hours ago," he said with a monotone voice.

"It is a one hundred thousand dollar wedding package and I am not splitting it with anyone," the blonde said with anger.

"Oh you're bleeding on your dress," George said as he came over to look at it.Β

"It's not about the dress!" The group yelled at him and he jumped.

"I'm going to have to stabilize that shoulder somehow," Callie said.

"I'll go grab a sling," Alex offered as Mark and Callie walked away from the group.

"This is hell," Callie complained. Β "I asked for O'Malley to be away from me and now our patients are connected to each other."

"Your not looking at this like the opportunity it is," Mark said to his friend. Β

"Meaning?" Callie furrowed her eyebrows.

"Meaning he's an intern. Β It's like half my job torturing interns."

Callie let out a small laugh.

"Thanks, that's almost sweet but torturing George is not going to make any of this better. Β Besides I thought Alison wanted you to stop with that."

"What she doesn't know wouldn't hurt her," he told her and they both turned to look at the situation with George there. Β

"Torture him how exactly?"

*

Alison let out a groan. Β She had been doing book work all morning now and felt like she needed a break. Β Doctor Kenley had her reading up on the latest advancements in peds and wanting her to take notes. Β

"How's George with his separation from Callie?" Alison asked Clair when she saw her walk into the office.

"I wouldn't know," Clair said as she ate her pudding cup.

"Why not?" Alison asked as her eyebrows furrowed. Β "Your each other's persons."

"Yeah well I said something that he didn't like and he told Izzie who told him not to speak to me from now on."

"What!" Alison shrieked. Β "She can't do that! Β She can't get in-between you two."

"Well she is and she can," Clair said as she let out an exhausted sigh. Β

It was only then that Alison took in Clair's appearance and noticed how tired she seemed. Β She had slight bags under her eyes and although she had tried to use makeup to help her seem wide awake - she was anything but. Β

"He can apologize to me if he wants," Clair let out a noise. Β "He shouldn't be with someone who tells him what to do and who he can be friends with."

"Sorry that's happening to you," Alison felt bad for her and Clair shrugged her shoulders taking another bite of the pudding.

"I have too much on my plate to let it bother me but it somehow does."

"It's because you care about him."

"I do," Clair let out a sigh. Β "He's my best friend. Β My person. Β It just sucks not being able to talk to him at all. Β What are you doing in here? Β Shouldn't you be out there performing surgeries? Β I saw on the board that there were at least five today."

"I should be but Doctor Kenley is being an asshole today and is having me do book work instead."

"I miss Addison," Clair said.

"I do too," Alison said with a sigh as her shoulders deflated. Β "I'm going to take a break. Β I'll be back."

"Sounds good," Clair said as she was filling out some patient's charts. Β

*

"What's going on with you?" Alison asked Cristina as she noticed the new resident was pouting.

"Stupid Izzie stole my cardio patient. Β Cardio! Β She doesn't even like cardio and now all of a sudden she's Doctor Hahn's new favorite. Β What about you?"

"Doctor Kenley is on my ass today and isn't letting me scrub in for surgeries. Β He's having me do book work instead."

"Book work?" Cristina said with concern as her eyebrows furrowed. Β "But you're a fellow."

"Yes, thank you!" Alison exclaimed as she lifted her arms up and down. Β "Someone finally gets it. Clair thought it was odd too."

"Why don't you just say that to him?"

"Have you met Doctor Kenley?" Alison asks the resident with eyes wide. Β "He scares me."

"Oh come on, he can't be that bad."

All of a sudden they hear a gruff voice that belongs to Doctor Kenley as the nurses move out of his way fast.

"Get out of my way," he yells at them.

"Gotta go," Alison said to Cristina and before Cristina could say anything Alison was already gone.

*

"No way! Β No freakin way," the blonde said angrily as Callie and Mark were talking to the patients. Β

"The only solution for either of you to let go of the dress," Callie retorted back.

"It's very simple," Mark began. Β "Doctor Torres needs to treat Jackie's shoulder and legs. Β Jackie - you need a proxy."

"What?" Jackie asked.

"Think about it babe," her fiance whispered to her. Β "This gives you an advantage. Β You get to rest your hand and get refreshed. Β Give me the dress," he tells the doctors. Β "I'll be the proxy."

"No way," the other fiance said. Β "This isn't fair. Β You think this is fair?"

"Doctor O'Malley's the proxy," Mark said solving the problem.

Β "What?" He asked shocked and confused.

"He'll hold onto the dress."

"Hold the dress? Β You want me to stand here and hold the dress?"

"No one ever said internship was easy," Mark fired back and Callie was holding back laughter. Β

George took off his gloves, with a bit of anger, as he then held out his hand and the girls gave him part of the dress.

"Dude, your job kind of sucks," Helena's fiance exclaimed.

"Oh, hello, watch the shoulder," yelled Jackie as Alex and Lexie walked over.

"Oh look, Bambi's a bridesmaid," Alex said laughing.

"Your right, this did cheer me up," Callie patted Mark's chest as she walked off. Β

*

"Hey, I wanted to run by you and let you know that I'm having a guy's night with Derek and Webber," Mark told Alison as he found he had a few minutes to spare.

"That's fine," Alison mumbled as she put her head on the table and her boyfriend looked at her confused.

"Are you alright? Β You aren't feeling sick are you?"

"I've done seven hours of book work, Mark! Β Seven hours!" She exclaimed lifting her head up. Β "Seven hours of not seeing any patients and no surgeries."

"What? Β Who the hell is making you do this?"

"Doctor Kenley," she muttered as she pouted and crossed her arms.

"Well, I think Doctor Kenley and I need to have a little chat," Mark got close to the door before Alison made her way in front of her boyfriend and stopped him.

"You will not have a little chat with him. Β Because I know what having a little chat with him would entail and I don't want you fighting my battles."

"Alison," he groaned as he ran his fingers through his short curly hair. Β "He's having you do book work when you're supposed to be working on patients. Β That's not right."

"I know, but there's nothing I can do," she let out an exhausted sigh. Β "He's just in one of those moods. Β Did you just say you're having a gentlemen's evening?"

It was crazy how fast Alison could change Mark's attitude. Β He could be upset or sad about something one minute. Β Then with Alison it was like she made everything better.

"Yeah," he nodded his head. Β "Webber's idea. Β What comes to mind when hearing gentlemen's evening?" She shrugged her shoulders.

"It could be anything from poker night with cigars and watching a football game or strip clubs. Β Either way, have fun," she told him as she kissed him before he left.

*

"Doctor Hahn," Mark stopped the cardiologist as he and Derek were walking. Β "I heard a crazy rumor about you."

"That I'm performing open heart surgery on a man whose wide awake?"

"That's the rumor."

"That's the truth," she quipped.

"I perform awake brain surgery," Derek boasted with his arms crossed. Β "I perform it all the time."

"Not the same thing," Erica and Mark said to Derek at the same time.Β

"You ever hear of a gentlemen's evening?" Mark asked her.

"I'm sorry?"

"The chief is hosting a gentlemen's evening," Derek explained.

"We're pretty sure it doesn't involve porn but you know we want to be sure," Mark finished.

"Right," Derek agreed.

"Are you two a couple?" Erica asked pointing at them both and they busted out laughing making her smile.

"No," they answered at the same time.

"I'm dating Doctor Alison Anderson," Mark said proudly.

"The pediatrics fellow?" Erica asked surprised.

"Why do you sound so surprised?"

"I guess I just don't know what she sees in you is all. Β Just checking," Erica said and walked off.

"Why would she ask that?" Derek asked Mark as they began to walk away as well.

"I don't know. Β I'm worried about this gentlemen's thing. Β Alison and I are perfect for each other, right?"

*

"No more talking about work tonight," Alison told Lexie as they were in her apartment and she poured the two of them another glass of wine. Β

"Deal," Lexie said letting out a laugh. Β "You know I slept with Alex Karev."

"What?" Alison let out a shriek of laughter. Β "How good is he in bed?"

"I'm not telling you that! Β No way," Lexie exclaimed as they were tipsy and slurring words.

"I'll tell you how good Mark is if you tell me about Alex."

"Fine, he's amazinggg," Lexie said as she looked like she was dreaming.

"Mark's the best I've ever had," Alison said as she walked over to the couch and slipped due to how drunk she was.

"I can't believe you just did that!"

"I can't either."

*

"He doesn't have any secret fetishes right?" Mark asked Derek with a mug in his hand. Β "He doesn't strike me as a fetish kind of guy," he told Derek as he took a sip.

"I don't know," Derek told him. Β "Hey Richard, you gotta tell us what this evening is about. Β You've been secretive and this has been fun but you know, we're getting a little freaked out now. What's a gentlemen's evening?"

"It's an evening with no ladies," Richard told the two as if it had been obvious all along. Β "Just the gentlemen."

"That's it," Mark exclaimed. Β

"Well yeah."

"I gave up a night with Alison for this?"Β

"Pretty boys," a voice they recognized came from somewhere. Β "Living in the woods. Β This is very charming. Β Or sad. Β Not sure which."

"What happened to no ladies?" Mark asked annoyed.

"Yeah," Derek agreed.

"Plans change."

"So I could have invited Alison is what you're telling me?"

"No, don't," Derek exclaimed and Erica looked amused. Β "If you do then it would be annoying because then you two would be all over each other and lovey-dovey," he said pouting.

*

"This is just not fair," Richard yelled out in frustration as they played a game of Monopoly.

"In your face, banker," Erica told him. Β "Park please. Β This is mine, give it up."

He grudgingly did so as Mark and Derek cheered.

Who else loves Malison? Β Thank you for your opinions on the ship names! Β I mainly wanted this chapter to show how awful Doctor Kenley was.Β
