chapter thirteen

Cassandra pov

Hailey, along with the girl she was with earlier, were first in line when I arrived to start my rollercoaster shift.

They swung their intertwined hands back in forth as Hailey talked on the phone looking behind her every so often, as the girl rested her head on her shoulder.

I walked in front of the controls which meant it was time for everybody to get on. As Nate, my co-worker, opened the gate he stopped Hailey as soon as she tried to get pass with her phone.

"Um, miss? Your not allowed to bring your phone with you on the ride. Safety concerns."

Hailey eyed Nate up and down before hanging up whoever she was talking with, and handed him her red iPhone twelve. She walked to the back of the rollercoaster and took her seat, almost the whole line rushed to the back as well. A few were disappointed they couldn't get at the back and I didn't know why. I shrugged it off and glanced at the controls checking to see if everything was set.

"Excuse me?" It was the goth girl with Hailey, I raised my head to see what they needed. "Um, my best friend a pussy. She think her seatbelt is loose, can one of you come check it out?" She asked politely and I walked over there. I pulled on the seatbelt checking to see if it was loose and it most definitely was. Silly Guys did not need a lawsuit. I tightened it and looked up at her.

"Is that better?"

"Yeah, thanks." She replied softly.

Ok, then.

"No problem," I mumbled and went back to where I was supposed to stand.

Nate did the last check to make sure everyone was secure and gave me a thumbs up. He moved out the way, and I started the rollercoaster up. The rollercoaster went fifty-five miles per hour, it was one hundred-five feet, and went around three times. The height restrictions was four six, and it was around three minutes. The entire thing was a dark shade of red based off a demon, Mike named it 'The Second Wife' after his second wife. They were married for three years. Apparently she was a terrible woman, and she Summer's mama so it's easy to believe. I ain't even the type to judge people I never met, but come on now. It's Summer.

I was used to the screams by now at first it gave me a headache, but I could tolerate it.

The rollercoaster did the second go around and eventually the third time around then it came to a complete stop, and so did the screaming.

The seatbelts lifted automatically and everyone got off.

Hailey stopped and grabbed her phone and we stared at each other for awhile.

Her best friend had already walked off and more people were boarding using the other exit.

She looked a little out of it? "A-are you okay?" I smiled, chuckling a bit and she nodded with a smile.

"Yeah," She cleared her throat, shaking her head a little. "Just a lil disoriented.."

Then we were just standing in front of each other on silence again.

"Did you need anything else?" I asked after awhile.

"To leave. You blocking the door." She said pointing behind me and my eyes widen as I quickly moved out the way. "Oh, yeah. My bad." I apologized and she walked past without another word.

----------------------------------

I wiped off the go-kart equipment with a disinfected wipe and placed it back where it was. After the last group came and raced for a few minutes I could go on lunch break. I heard a bunch of foot steps and I turned to see Hailey and her group of friends. There were nine of them, and nine go-karts. So there was just enough. Hailey wasn't up under the girl anymore, in fact she was far away from her.

What happened in the like fifteen minutes I didn't see them?

Hailey didn't seem to care though. Her eyes were glued to her feet for some reason. Her brother, Eric, whispered something in her ear and she shook her head 'no'. He gave her a short pat on the back and must have told her to look up because she did it almost immediately. She did but her eyes weren't focused on anything. They looked a little empty.

"Guys choose a kart and we'll start up and a few seconds." Chris instructed and they went over to the karts taking their seats.

Chris walked over to me. "You've been zoning out all day. You alright?" He asked and I nodded.

"Yeah, I don't know maybe I just need some food or something." I shrugged.

"Pizza and Chicken Fries on me?"

I gave him a look. "Don't we get that stuff for free?"

He thought for a moment until he shook his head. "Forget about all that. Just let me spoil you."

I laughed and went over to start these go-karts. At this point everyone had picked a kart, and they were just waiting on us. I played the automatic pre recorded message and then starred it up. They went around for a few times. Hailey kept banging into people and one of her friends complained how that was against the rules, which only made her do it harder by the way. Her older brother was driving like a manic though.

Maybe it ran in the family.

He was swerving, cutting people off, trying to do tricks and all that other stuff.

At one point they was all screaming at a guy who was going to slow and causing traffic. Hailey threatened to beat his ass, actually scratch that, they all threatened to beat his ass. But eventually it came to an end and they exited, Hailey being carried on her brothers back. She had seemed in such a better mood now.

Also it was time for my lil lunch break.

I had plans to sleep threw it but oh well. Chris is nice to hang out with.

"I'm just gonna go threw the bathroom really quick," I said to him and he told me he would just meet him in the outside food court then. I said ok and left out heading towards the bathroom.

I pressed the soap dispenser and scrubbed my hands together before putting them under the warm sink water to wash them off. I hummed some made up song and continued to wash off my hands. The door creaked open and I looked up and there she was. She looked at me for a minute closing the door behind her in the process, then leaning against it and still staring.

"Can I help you?" I asked.

"I got a staring problem." She said

"You good." I said with a smile as I went to dry my hands. When I was finished she was still by the door.

"How come you didn't say nothing to me when I walked in?" She asked.

"Oh, you mean you wanted someone to say something to you? You haven't talked to me in a minute." I said crossing my hands over my chest.

"Um," She titled her head to the side. "Y-yeah, I've been a little busy with some personal stuff, I guess.."

"You could have said that."

"I'm sorry, Cassandra." She apologized in that tone she used everytime she would say sorry.

She probably thought I would just accept her apology, she'd give me that cute ass face and I would just forget about it. Honestly she was probably right. But she gonna work for it.

"That's what you say." I mumbled.

"Yeah, because I actually mean it this time."

I furrowed my eyebrows. "Oh, so you didn't mean it last time?"

"No, I did." She said quickly. "It's just uhhh-"

"Use your words." I told her calmly.

"Not if you not gonna listen to them. I can save my words for another pretty ass girl who will." She smiled.

"Your such an asshole. Go to hell, non respectfully." I rolled my eyes.

"That's so fuckin' hot." She said referring to me rolling my eyes. "Will humor fix this? I think I'm pretty funny. I don't mean pretty and funny, I mean I'm pretty funny. But then again I am pretty and funny so-"

"We get it." I groaned with a laugh.

"Aw, you look so pretty when you smile. But you look so sexy when your angry so I'm conflicted."

"Mhm."

"What are you thinking about?"

"About how you keep ignoring me for like weeks at a time and suddenly you appear and I forget all about it. I'd think we'd have a pretty good friendship if you wouldn't do stupid things."

"Bitch, a friendship?" Hailey shrieked as if she was offended and I laughed a little bit. "I do not want no friendship." She mumbled.

"Then what do you want?" I asked.

She thought about it for a second.

"I'm accepting wife applications."

"Girl, bye." I scoffed.

"Fine, fine, fine. You know what I really want?"

"What?"

"You to come to my hotel room with me. I got it all to myself, plus I got this big ass puzzle we can do. Bought a shit ton of snacks, we can order pizza, the hotel we at got cable. I brought my game. It'll be lit as fuck." She looked really excited listing off all the things we could do together, it was cute. But I really didn't wanna hang out with her just for her to ghost me again. But I also really do wanna go. I must have been silent for awhile because she had spoke up again. "But if you don't it's alright and-"

"I do wanna go. But you have to promise me something?"

"Bet. What is it?"

"When this is over and you decide to ghost me, you have to promise you'll stay away from me. I really do wanna be your friend, but not if it's gonna be like this."

She looked at me for a minute for walking towards me and holding out her pinkie.

"I'm not gonna ghost you but... I pinky promise."

I looked down at her pinkie. Was I really about to let this girl let me believe in the same lie twice?

"Promise." I replied wrapping my pinkie around hers.

"It's a date then,"
