⊱ ─ Awakening ─ ⊰

Daisy and Charlie shared a worried glance, Bombay was nowhere to be seen. "Hey, team! We're going to be great today, right?" Tibbles said happily. "Where's Gordon?" His smiled faded as he noticed the lack of Coach Bombay. "You tell us," Luis answered. Daisy leaned into Charlie. "I don't believe this," Tibbles responded exasperated. "Team USA, I'm sorry, but without a coach behind the bench, you're going to have go forfeit the game," The ref informed them. "But you can't do that!" Adam complained leading to the team's agreement. Charlie quickly rushed off to get Miss Mckay to fill in for Coach Bombay. "What are you waiting for? The ice to freeze? Let's play!" Miss Mckay shouted as she stood up, the team cheered for her before half the team headed onto the ice.

Daisy sat down next to Charlie as Jesse took the face-off against Germany. The opposing team got the puck and skated down center ice, they shot the puck and Goldberg saved it. The game continued and Germany was playing hard, they weren't going down easily as they stole the puck and shoved players aside. "Ugh, we look tired. We need to trade places," Ms Mckay said. "What?" Charlie asked looking up at Ms Mckay. "New players," She responded making Daisy smile. "You have to say change it up," Daisy inform her making her nod and say it normally. "Scream it!" Charlie said to her.

Ms Mckay nodded, "Change it up!" Daisy jumped up and headed onto the ice. The team were discussing a game plan when the familiar sound of the duck whistle echoed through the rink. The team turned to see Coach Bombay walking through the stands, he was occasionally blowing on the duck whistle. "Look who finally shows up," Fulton proclaimed as Daisy took a deep breath. "No way, guys. Just ignore him. Averman, take the face-off," Jesse declared as the team listened and got into their positions. Coach Bombay continued blowing the whistle, Jesse looked over to Daisy who sighed unsure on what to do.

Daisy skated to Guy, Jesse and Fulton who were grouped up on the ice. "Come on, what have we got to lose?" Guy asked. "Respect. He'll dump us the minute it's all over," Fulton countered. "Daisy?" Jesse asked as he leaned towards her. She looked over at Coach Bombay with sad eyes, she wasn't sure what to really do in that moment. She remembered the time Bombay first messed up, he came back to the Ducks and they won the championship against the Hawks. Perhaps, he still had a lot to learn as a Coach and that included facing the fame that came with it. "Sometimes respect is worth the risk. He's messed up before, remember?" Daisy asks softly.

Bombay called them over, the four of them skated over hesitantly. "Team. Guys, I was wrong and I'm sorry," Bombay began, "I forgot about the team... And the team is all I have. I told you guys hockey was supposed to be fun, and I ruined that." Bombay looked over at Charlie, "Until I was reminded that when I coached the Ducks, I always said this sport was meant to be fun." Daisy smiled slightly as Charlie's smiled widened. "All I want is another chance, just one more shot. I'm back, okay? Believe me," Bombay promised looking at everyone.

The team agreed and quickly got into the game fighting back against Germany. Daisy sat down on the bench and drank from her bottle when Bombay sat down next to her. "Daisy..." Bombay started gaining the girl's attention. "I owe you an apology. You are one of my best players but above that, you are the best person I've met. You do your best and that is more than enough, I should have never been so harsh," Bombay finished trying to decipher her blank expression. "Welcome back, Coach," Daisy said with a smile. By the end of the third period, they were tied 2-2 and with Coach's decision for Jesse to do the flying V, they won the game.

Daisy sat next to Charlie as the team sat together outside in their Team USA attire. "I've had a lot of big distractions since I've been here in LA," Coach Bombay started as he picked up a cardboard cutout of him for the Hendrix ad. "This is a distraction," Coach said holding it up. "Nice haircut, Coach," Dean teased. "Looks familiar!" Goldberg laughed. "Isn't that your evil twin?" Daisy asked sarcastically making everyone laugh. "This is a fire in a barrel," Coach continued as he lit a match and threw it into the barrel. He then placed his cutout into the barrel, "This is a distraction in a fire in a barrel. Any questions?" The team cheered happily for the return of their coach.

From that moment, Coach Bombay had them working extra hard but he kept to his word and ensured they had fun in the process. He had them doing a bunch of new drills, bringing them back to the basics to find their grove again. After a few hours of practice, Bombay let them have a break to go sightseeing in Los Angeles. Daisy decided against it, she wanted to stay in and catch up on her reading while everyone was out. Everyone had met in the lobby to split up in groups when Charlie noticed that Daisy hadn't left her room like the others. "She's reading, go give her company," Connie told him before she walked away with Guy and Julie.

Charlie made his way up to the door and knocked lightly, he waited a moment before Daisy opened the door. She was wearing some shorts and Charlies hoodie with her hair tied up in a messy bun with a book in her hand. "Hey Char, I thought you'd be going with the others," Daisy says as she stepped to the side letting him in. "I was thinking we could hang out instead but Connie told me you were reading so I thought I'd come and hang here with you. You can read and I'll just catch up with some sleep or homework," Charlie replies before kissing her cheek.

Charlie thought for a moment, "Or we can do this instead." Daisy smiled as he grabbed her hand and lead her over to the bed, he laid back against the pile of pillows and pulled her down. She leaned back against his chest, his arms went around her waist as she rested her head on his shoulder. Daisy smiled lightly as Charlie kissed her head. "Read to me," Charlie whispered into her ear making her shiver slightly. She began reading out loud in a soft voice that completely relaxed Charlie as he paid attention to her voice rather than the story, both of them content in the moment.
