for the next week, enkai would visit you regularly. you weren't entirely sure where his sudden interest in you came from, but you didn't mind, he kept you good company.

"you sure you don't want a donut or something?" you asked enkai as he stared out the window watching the crowd of people walk by.

he shook his head. "nah, i don't want to take profit away from you."

you chuckle slightly. "it's only one donut, but whatever."

you continued to place the pastries in order. yua was out at the time, so she left the shop to both you and enkai. the two of you proceeded to make small talk until rush hour, which was usual around 2 o'clock.

you look up at the wall clock.

'1:47'

softly, you cursed under your breath. 'yua's supposed to be back by now, i can't ask the bakers to help me serve. not today, they've got their hands full.'

you bite your nails in nervousness. enkai noticed your stiffened structure and decided to ask about it. "y/n, are you okay?"

you let out a defeated sigh. "i hate to ask you this, but do you know your way around this place?"

enkai looked at you with a confused expression, but nodded. you then explained to him how yua wasn't back yet and to your surprise, he somewhat expected this outcome.

so you throw him an apron and he heads behind the counter while you head to the back and start brewing some fresh coffee.

'i know the bakery's small, but shouldn't we have more employees?!'

you grumble and make a mental note to make sure yua hires more employees or doesn't go running off again.

usually two people are enough to run the small bakery, but as you could, without enkai, it would only be one.

"here y/n, hand this to the bakers in the back."

enkai hands you a slip and you take it. it was unexpected how skilled he was with his job. he was smoothly walking through all of the tables, taking the correct orders and setting the right order down at the right table with ease.

it was mesmerizing to watch.

"Y/N, THOSE ORDERS!"

'sh*t!'

"I'VE GOT IT-"

before you could walk over to the table to drop the food off, enkai grabbed it from your hand. "i've got these, thanks!"

you scoff as you watch the redhead walk away with a smirk. 'showoff.'

you head behind the counter and continued to take orders until rush hour was over and you could finally catch a break.

"finally!" you said as you plopped down on the couch in the breakroom.

enkai sat down beside you and the two of you made small conversation.

"i better get a raise or bonus for this."

"y/n, you barely did anything."

you hit enkai's shoulder slightly. "yeah, well that's because you kept stealing my jobs!"

the boy chuckles. "and THAT'S because someone as gorgeous as-"

"hold that thought kai." you heard the bell ring and you wanted to catch the customer before they left thinking no one was there.

enkai shook his head. 'calm down! watch what you say man!'

"hi! how may i help you?"

"hey, i know you, y/n right?"

it wasn't until you got a closer look that you figured out who you were talking to.

it was camie utsushimi, also known as, katsuki's new ex, ex-girlfriend.

you were a pretty civil person. in all honesty, the girl wasn't aware of your feelings and she only acted on hers. after all, before she entered the house, you were about to do the same. "utsushumi right? yeah, i remember you too."

camie clasped her hands together. "yay, i'm so glad! but you can just call me camie, by the way, i really liked your vibes the other day, how would you like an upperclassmen?!"

"oh, i don't know-"

"that's great! here, gimme your number!"

you sighed as you gave in. the girl wasn't radiating any types of negative energy whatsoever. and with the life you lived, you could tell the difference between fake people and those who were genuine.

she had such a kind soul. a bit enthusiastic, but kind.

"sure."

she saved your number as my protΓ©gΓ©πŸ’ž and you saved hers as camie.

sure you had given her your number, but you didn't think you were close enough to give her a nickname just yet. the fawn gives you a closed eye smile. "thanks y/n, i've somewhere to be, but i'll text you later."

she drops a $100 bill in the tip bank and rushes off in a hurry. "wait, you're not gonna buy anything?"

camie shakes her head and puts a finger on her lips. "nah, i'm in the mood for something savoury right now."

"oh, okay," you give her a small smile. "have a good rest of your day then."

she returns the smile. "you too. and if you have the opportunity, come to uau with me. i know someone who would love to see you there." (ua university)

and with that, she walked out the door.

'someone who would love to see me there?'

it wasn't surprising that someone with her ability and resources was able to get into a university like uau. even though ua and shiketsu high are pretty much on the same level, the universities are an entirely different story.

currently, there's no university in japan that compared to uau. the school consisted of heroes in training and ones skilled in support, those who got in on intelligence scholarships, and just plain rich kids who go there for fun. the people there are on a whole different level, something you didn't think you could hold a candle to.

the front door swings and yua enters the small bakery. "i'm back!!!"

enkai comes out from the break room in the back. "oh, hi aunt yua," the boy raises an eyebrow at his aunt, "where'd you run off to this time?"

yua laughs and sets down bags on the front counter. "oh, don't be like that kai! here, come put these ingredients away."

"alright, y/n would you help me?"

no response. you were too lost in your thoughts to notice the boy calling out to you.

"y/n sweetheart, are you okay?"

'what did she mean by 'someone'?'

enkai put the things down and quickly walked over to you. he was worried. he then started shaking your shoulders until you finally came out of your trance. "hey, y/n what's wrong?!"

"huh? oh, yua, when did you get here?"

yua walks behind the counter to where you were standing. she places a hand on your shoulder. "maybe you need some rest, go on and sit in the back."

you gently remove her hand and chuckle slightly. the woman was very overprotective of you. sometimes you couldn't help but wonder if that was what it felt like to have a caring mother. "i'm okay, don't worry."

you then turn to enkai. for some reason, your whole interaction with camie felt like a fever dream, or some type of illusion. "hey kai, did you see a fawn haired girl come in here after rush hour?"

"huh?" the boy grabs the ingredients and heads to the back. "nope, nobody came in here after rush hour before aunt yua. you just got up and walked out of the break room. i thought you had something you needed to do, so just let you. why?"

'what?' you quickly pull your phone out and open your contacts and there was no camie listed among them. your contacts wasn't even your most recently opened app.

'did i actually imagine that?'

you sigh and grab the bags and walk to the back with enkai. "no reason, just curious."

"wow, someone left a $100 bill in the tip bank."

you heard yua's words and your mind did a flip. 'or did i not?'
