Chapter 22

"Hey... Do you ever wonder if..."

Len wakes up when he hears the loud creaking noise of a door opening. Considering his blinds are always closed, it's a little dark in his room so he can't make out much besides a shadow of a figure coming towards him. Being half awake, he thinks he's dreaming, but everything feels too real...

"(N-Name)? Is 'at you?" he slurs sleepily, lowering his right hand to randomly grab at whoever climbed into his bed with him. Long slender fingers accidentally latch onto soft bare skin and he hears a barely audible gasp following the action. His eyes widen as he swallows thickly. Yup, that's you alright.

"A-ah..." Your face is burning as you slowly wrench off the hand that is way too close to your inner thigh. "Oi, be careful, " you say, clearly sounding more embarrassed than irritated. Len only lets out an airy laugh as an apology before he lazily drags his hand up to your waist instead. "Sorry to wake you. Umm, can I sleep with you?" you whisper, resting a hand on his shoulder. Suddenly feeling wide awake, he nods eagerly.

"Sure!" He just did an awful job hiding the excitement in his voice. "Err...I mean, it's cool, I don't mind."

Nice save.

By the time you realize this is a bad idea, putting distance between you two isn't an option anymore—not with his iron grip around your waist. As dark as the room is, you could clearly see the dark grin he wore.

"Len, I came here to sleep," you whine, after feeling a warm pair of lips attach themselves to your jawline. You felt those lips smirk at the comment.

"Oh, c'mon (Name), I thought we already established what'd happen if you come in here at night..." He murmurs against your collarbone, sliding a warm hand under the back of your thin t-shirt. He's not wrong.

Sometime during your stay in the Kagamine house, Len was the one who reluctantly decided that it probably wasn't a good idea for you to share a bed. For one, Len lacks a bit of self control, and you have a very hard time telling him 'no.'

So much for getting sleep tonight.

~*~*~

When Len wakes up, he finds no one beside him. There is no trace of you ever being there and he's wondering if he dreamed the whole thing up. Usually his dreams concerning you were a bit more...graphic, to say in the very least, so he's a tad bit confused. The boy either had nightmares of you leaving him, or some pretty great dreams of you. Regardless, he's thankful it wasn't another nightmare.

"Weird," he mutters, running a hand through his messy blond locks. Looking at the digital clock on his dresser, he's alarmed to see he slept until noon but then realizes he doesn't have school the next few days because of the double suicide that occurred on school grounds. Maybe if more of his evil fangirls died, you two could score some more days off from school?

He mentally questions at what point in his life he started to think it was normal to have horrible thoughts like this.

As he stumbles his way out of his room, he wonders if you're sleeping in today. Simply by coincidence, you open your door at the same exact time he does and walk out completely shirtless...and male.

What.

Len lets out a terrified shriek because, for a moment, he thinks this is the nightmare—you've magically turned into a boy and female-you is gone forever, so now he's going to die alone and—

"Oh hey, bro-in-law, long time no see! Didn't mean to scare ya." Hitori laughs awkwardly as he brushes away the (h/c) bangs from his eyes. "Sorry I overslept! You see, I was supposed to be outta here before you woke up..."

It's been so long since they've seen each other face-to-face, Len forgot Hitori looked so similar to you. He blushes a little because of his embarrassing outburst, but then the strangeness of the encounter finally registers in his mind.

"W-wait. Why did you just come out of her room...without a shirt?" Len asks hesitantly.

He gets a simple shrug in response. "I ditched it 'cuz I kind of broke a sweat last night."

Len gasps in utter horror. "Doing what?!" He screeches and before he can reach over to annihilate your older brother, you emerge from up the stairs.

"Len, you're up! Great, I just made breakfast for ya~" you chirp, somehow completely oblivious to their loud conversation. Your cheerful aura turns into disgust when you spare a glance at your brother. "Hitori, put on a shirt." Your brother looks at you oddly because it's rather warm and here you are wearing a scarf. When you see him staring at it, you blush and pull it closer around your neck, silently regretting your decision to sleep in Len's room last night.

Confusion is written all over Len's face as he glares at Hitori. "Why are you here?"

"I came over to check up on you guys after hearing about what happened," Hitori explains as he rubs his sore neck. He winces when his thumb brushes against a painfully forming bruise on his (s/c) shoulder—one you inflicted last night. Long story short, Hitori thought it was a brilliant idea to break into the house at 1AM to visit you after seeing the school suicide story on the news. Then, he claimed he wanted to teach you some self-defense skills... Turns out you really weren't in need of said self-defense lessons.

When you notice the bruise, your eyes light up with some sort of twisted glee for a split second, but unlike Len, Hitori doesn't miss it. 'Ugh, so sadistic... so scary..!' your brother shudders, though simultaneously, knowing his little sister can hold her own in a fight makes his heart swell with pride.

"Yup, so I slept in your room. Or... Did you somehow forget that already?" You ask Len, giggling when the color returns to Len's face full force at the implications your brother isn't aware of.

Hitori is simply amused at this point. Both your and Len are blushing simply because you shared a bed. You two are so innocent, he muses as he momentarily gushes over your adorable relationship. Or at least, that's what he thinks, but the marks littering your neck say otherwise. Your brother then heads for a shower, claiming he, as the guest, should get first dibs on the bathroom and he runs in before you can even stop him.

Len starts to make his way downstairs and that's when he finally notices you're wearing his black and yellow checkered scarf around your neck.

"Nice scarf you've got there," he compliments, quite enjoying how flustered you get at the comment. He dashes down the stairs before you can strangle him with it.

"This is such an interesting new experience for me! I've never had to babysit anyone before."

You face is red with anger as you punch Hitori hard in the ribs. "You're not fucking babysitting me, idiot—you can't babysit someone who's legally an adult," you grumble, as he whines in pain. "You and I are merely watching the house until Len comes back from wherever he went, that is all," you calmly explain, as if you didn't just hurt him.

"Ahhh, why are you so violent?!" He asks, rubbing his sore ribs. He internally sobs because he didn't raise you like this! You can't help it, though. Sometimes when you see your brother's face, it literally triggers you and he becomes the victim of an onslaught of both verbal and physical abuse. Maybe it's because he played a big part in forming your abandonment issues?

'Oh shut up, I don't have abandonment issues.'

Still, you aren't sure where Len drove off to, but he asked your brother to watch over yo—err...the house—while he's gone for a few hours. You hope he's left for "research" like he said and not off planning a murder. In the meantime, you've been getting more martial arts practice in, though you felt it was somewhat in vain. You doubt these fancy spin kicks would save you if a fangirl had a gun to your head. However, it's better than nothing. Len has student informants and an army of fangirl minions, while you have almost nothing. You don't have people who risk their necks for you like he does unless you count Neru and Hitori.

"Who you textin'? Is it a boy? Oooh, does Len know?" Hitori asks teasingly, now trying to peer over your shoulder as if he wasn't in pain two seconds ago. An annoyed huff leaves your lips as you push his face away.

"Kyoya says he's coming over to give me something, so be nice when he arrives, or else."

"The brick-dodging boy you worked with? Yeah, I'll be nice! No worries about it, little sis!" He says sweetly, and the cheery smile on his face almost makes you believe him. Almost.

Ten minutes later...

"(Name), call the cops!" Hitori nearly falls off the couch and rudely points a finger at your guest. "You're the creepy weapon collector kid from back in high school!" Hitori shouts when poor unsuspecting Kyoya walks into the living room. The black haired boy stands there in shock at the accusation for a moment before dropping a large gym bag onto the table with a heavy sigh.

When Hitori faces you, the murderous look in your (e/c) orbs tells him he's about to get injured. You took a hold of your brother's arm, painfully twisting it around his back. "What did I tell you about being rude?!" You screech, not caring about Kyoya witnessing this new, violent side of you. Hitori's face is muffled against the seat of the couch now so, thankfully for him, you don't hear his dumb reply.

Meanwhile, Kyoya watches with one eye twitching violently, now understanding where your hatred of your brother comes from. After a few minutes of you taking many deep breaths and some very pathetic apologies from Hitori, you're ready to act normally in front of your guest. Ah, the precious boy who you wish was your brother and your real brother in the same room... The universe is mocking you.

"(Name), he's not wrong. I do collect weapons but it's kind of something I like to keep secret. It seems a little weird, y'know?" Kyoya tells you almost bashfully, but you have an understanding look on your face regardless. Your brother still seems wary of him. "And since you saved my life last week, I wanted to give you these," he continues proudly, unzipping his gym bag and pouring its contents onto the table.

Your eyes widen in pure excitement as you scan the "gifts" he's offering, though brother looks like he's going to faint when he sets his eyes on the metal baseball bat and a steel machete. However, you seem to fancy the brass knuckles and the tiny thing that looks like a fountain pen. Taking the cap off, you find it's just a hidden knife.

"Ahaha, these are so cute!" You giggle as you lean over to hug Kyoya. Hitori blanches, for 'cute' was not the word he would use to describe such lethal weaponry.

As Kyoya demonstrates how to use each weapon (for self-defense purposes, of course), you look incredibly thrilled at the idea of if all, but your brother is horrified because he had once faced exactly what you are going through now. The difference is, his high-school stalker was a girl he didn't like back, and he had no one to help him through the whole ordeal.

So as he quietly watches you, slightly fascinated by the concentrated gleam in your eyes and the effortless swinging of your shiny metal bat, he can only hope that things will fare better for you than it did for him.

One week later

There's always a bit of rage coursing through Len's veins when someone has the audacity to take you away from him. Since the suicide investigation finished a week ago—which lead to absolutely nothing, thankfully—school has resumed and Len couldn't let you go for a second or else someone would try to harass you with stupid, meaningless comments.

In reality, it was only Miku trying to offer you helpful advice on how to stay safe from Len's deranged fangirls. Everyone else stayed the hell away from you guys out of fear.

"(Name), how many times do I have to tell you to shun that bitch? She's bad news!" Neru harshly whispers once you take your seats in homeroom. She and Len glare at the front of the room where Miku sits with Gumi, just like they do every morning. The similarities between the blondes are rather uncanny, now that you look at it... Len normally would shun Neru away, but you suppose he allows Neru near you because he learned that she could trash his reputation in a heartbeat.

Staring at Miku, you notice Meiko in her zombie like state again. Now she's sitting near Miku and Gumi, but not with them like she used to. It's strange... Just two months ago, she was this vibrant, though somewhat bitchy girl who had it out for you and now she's meek and lifeless.

Meiko's personality has been stripped away and you don't know what to do. However, as curious as you are, you're still you. You have no place going up to the second most popular girl in school and asking her how she is. Your fear wouldn't allow you to do it, even though you assume she no longer hates you. The last time you spoke to her, she was actually worried for you, so nothing really adds up anymore.

Len also stares off into Meiko's direction now. After getting back the forensic results from Pico last week, he was sure Meiko's orchestrated your attack. The yarn on the brick was the same exact kind she used to knit her own scarf and that's proof enough. But if that's the case, why is there a gnawing feeling in his gut?

'What if it's not her..?'

He has to get to the bottom of this and figure out who the ringleader really is, but getting information is impossible. Those filthy fangirls simply. Would. Not. Break.

When he left you with your brother last week, he foresaw the "interrogation" a couple of young freshmen fangirls, who absolutely adore him and clearly wish for your death. But no matter how much Neru's friends hurt them, they wouldn't speak. In fact, they were beyond joyous because they knew Len was giving up his precious time with you to spend with them instead.

He sighs harshly, causing you to look at him questioningly. Neru looks at him with an understanding expression, which tells you they're both hiding something. She helped Len with the interrogation, and she was just as livid when those girls wouldn't talk. As a result, they ruined the girls emotionally and mentally—something the manipulative blonde pair is astoundingly good at.

And while they were doing that without your knowledge, you were secretly training alone to destroy someone physically. After all, you couldn't afford to be good-for-nothing when your lives are in danger. If Len's going to go to unknown extremes to protect you, then you would do the same in return.

After all, isn't that what being in love means?

"...we're going too far?"
