Chapter 2

"All I wanted was to love you..."

"(NAAAAAAAAAAME)~!" An absurdly loud voice calls. You can literally feel the ground shaking and you can only await in horror as your best friend comes charging towards you.

"Please, no..." Is the only thing that comes out of your mouth before you're tackled onto the wooden floor of your kitchen. Rin simply rolls around with you in glee, though you look like you're going to vomit if she keeps it up. "Rin! Stop, stop, stop—I'm gonna' throw up, dammit!" You shout. She immediately comes to a halt and lifts you up with her skinny arms.

"Whoops, sorry," she says and sets you down on your feet. You regret eating so much for breakfast. "Anyway, I have the most wonderful news! I'll tell you after I eat." You watch as she sits down on the kitchen chair and pats the place-mat with an expectant look. Wow, the nerve of this girl. Barges into your house and expects you to make her food...

'That's my best friend...' You think silently and head to the fridge to pour her some orange juice, which she downs in mere seconds. Next thing you know, she's slamming her knife and fork onto the table screaming something about pancakes. You drag a hand down your face and sigh before quickly heating up some pancakes in the microwave to shut her up. It's in this moment that you decide you never want kids.

"Happy?!" You shout, slamming the plate of warm pancakes in front of her. She nods cheerfully and starts eating right away.

"You know, (Name)," Rin says, in the middle of chewing. "You really *chew* are my *gulp* best friend ever! You make me food and put up with me..." She trails off and smiles. You nod absentmindedly and take a bite out of the pancakes yourself, but you're not prepared for what she says next.

"You should totally marry my brother when you grow up!" And with that uncalled for comment, you immediately start choking on the food in your throat. You think you hear a noise nearby, but you're too busy dying to care.

"HEIMLICH MANEUVER!!" Rin screams and your eyes widen because Rin doesn't actually know the Heimlich maneuver. You cough up the pancake while she pounds your back with an unnecessary force.

"(Name), why did you choke like that?!" She asks, crouching next to your body which is now lying on the floor.

"Why did YOU say something like that?! Geez..." You groan and hide your red face in your arm.

"I just meant that we'd be sisters...Sorry, (Name)." Rin pouts. You tiredly pat her leg and contemplate your biggest mistake, which was giving this girl a key to your house so she could come in every morning.

"It's fine. What was the good news that you were gonna tell me?" You ask, still trying to catch your breath.

"Oh, right! My parents are going on a business trip for a couple of months," she says. "Now I can finally invite you to my house~!"

The excitement is clear on your face. Rin's parents are relatively strict and don't let her or Len invite friends over. They want their kids to focus on school, though they never really cared that Rin was always going over to your house. You forced her to study and she's been doing much better in school. Still, you could never quite understand why her parents didn't want you at their place.

"This is great! When are they leaving?"

"Next week~" she squeals, and a huge grin splits across both of your faces. You're both about to yell with joy until you hear a soft voice.

"Rin, you forgot your bag at home." You and Rin look up to see Len leaning against the wall with a blush on his face. With the way he's staring at you, your face is turning slight pink as well as you get up and fix your uniform.

"Hey, bro! Tsk, (Name), you just had to go choke on pancakes and make us late!" Rin scolds teasingly. You flash her a grin and lock an arm around her neck.

"Oi, brat, you're the one who was begging for food!"

Len simply watches as you and Rin blindly smack each other before he starts to head out the front door.

"Hey, umm, (Name)?" Len calls, effectively stopping you from beating down his twin. He sends you a breathtaking smile. "It's nice to see you again..."

You watch his retreating form with a smile, yet you're not really sure why you're smiling. But when Rin sees your face, she thinks she knows.

"You like my brother~?"

"Yeah...Wait, W-WHAT?!"

~*~*~

Len is ecstatic. When he hears that his parents are leaving next week for a six-month business trip, he almost wants to scream with joy; the same joy he knows his twin sister is hiding from their parents. Sitting at the kitchen table, he sees his parents' mouth moving, but he can't hear anything at all. All he can think about is a plan. He has exactly one week until his parents are gone, which means he has precisely one week before Rin drags you into their house.

"Did you hear me, Rin? No friends while we're gone! Not even (Name). Focusing on studying is most important now, you understand me?" The twins' mother asks. From the corner of his eye, he can see Rin nodding vigorously.

"Well, that's great and all, but I'm going to tell–err...go eat breakfast at (Name)'s house. See ya, mom!" Rin says. Len watches his sister run out of the front door faster than his mother can protest. She sighs and hands Rin's bag to Len.

"Len. Can you go to (Name)'s house and give this to your sister?" She asks.

He nearly drops his fork. "(Name)'s h-house?"

Oh man, your house is like forbidden territory. He's hasn't been brave enough to go in for a few years now. Sure, he wanted to go in there, but still... this is a big step from window-watching. He takes Rin's bag and his own and runs the few yards to your house since they are literally beside each other. You're neighbors with Rin, how else could you become best friends?

His hand is visibly shaking as he twists the doorknob and enters your house. It's so clean and... it's yours. His first instinct is to run away as far as he can, but something in him forces him to hide behind the wall and watch Rin tackle you to the ground. He peeks out from behind the wall and feels a rush of jealousy surge through him.

Rin gets to hug you and roll around with you... and he knows that that's just how his sister acts, but he still feels angry. He silently fumes and watches the scene, and he doesn't seem to notice the fact that you look like you're about to hurl. After a few moments, he hears Rin screaming about pancakes and sees you face-palming.

"What?!" He angrily whispers to himself. "That brat is asking (Name) to make her food?!" Man, oh man, how he wishes you would make him breakfast. At that moment, you slam the plate of food in front of Rin and he contemplates if he should come out from hiding, but stops abruptly when he hears his sister say something rather interesting.

"You should totally marry my brother when you grow up!" Len quickly turns his head in surprise, causing him to slam it into the wall.

"Shit! Ow, ow, ow..." He mutters loudly. He can hear you coughing and Rin relentlessly pounding on your back. He really wants to stop his sister from being an idiot, but he's too scared to move yet. Then, a sad thought hits him.

Is the idea of marrying him that repulsive to you that you choked? His eyes narrow and he knows that in the future, that will change. He rubs his forehead and his eyes notice his wristwatch in the process. Realizing you guys are going to be late to school, he finally steps out of his hiding place and glances you over before blushing profusely. Your panting form is lying on the ground, not to mention your school uniform had hiked up quite a bit...

There's only so much he can take in one morning.

Embedding that image into his mind, he sighs deeply. "Rin...you forgot your bag at home," he says, but the only thing he notices is you. He can't really hear the words that come out of Rin's or your mouth afterwards, but he doesn't need to. As long as he can be this close to you, he'll be happy.

"Hey, umm, (Name)?" He pauses and smiles, not knowing where the hell he gathered enough courage to talk to you. "It's nice to see you again..." And with that, he leaves and he can't help but wonder what things will be like when you're all his.

"...Is that really so bad?"
